LINDSIDE — Wayne Bowers, 65, of Lindside, passed away Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Wickline Funeral Home in Lindside, with Pastor Paul Baker officiating. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. After the service following his request he will be cremated.

Lois M. Dickens Greiner

BRUNSWICK, Ohio — Lois M. Dickens Greiner, 66, of Brunswick, passed away with family by her side on Monday, Oct. 21, 2013.

She was born Jan. 9, 1947, in Pine Knob, W.Va., to the late Clyde and Lula Plumley Dickens.

Lois was a homemaker and “Grammy” to nine grandchildren who always had her attention and love.

She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Thomas Greiner; sons, Dave (Deb), Gregg (Kim); daughter, Cheryl (Kevin) Fritz; siblings, Delbert (Linda) Dickens and Anita (Charles) Craddock; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carl and Francis Pettry; grandchildren, Tyler, Sarah, Clayton, Erikka, Allison, Nikki, Dakota, Kyle and Ethan, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may join the family for visitation on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 1642 Pearl Road (1/2 mile south of route 303), Brunswick, Ohio 44212. Cecil Isaac Meadows

CLIFTON FORGE, Va. — Cecil Isaac Meadows, 94, of Clifton Forge, formerly of Hinton, died Friday, October 18, 2013, at The Woodlands in Clifton Forge.

Born August 13, 1919, at Brooks, W.Va., he was the son of the late Everette John and Ida Mae Plumley Meadows.

Mr. Meadows was a retired clerk for the CSX Transportation Corporation in Hinton. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Covington and First Baptist Church in Hinton and was also a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks. He had been a resident of Clifton Forge since 2005.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Christine Morene Meadows, on July 21, 2013. Also preceded by a brother, George Meadows, and a sister, Edna Greer.

Survivors include a son, Steve Meadows and wife Laura of Covington, Va.; one brother, Luther Meadows of Princeton; one sister, Elsie Cochran of Daniels; two grandchildren, Christopher Stephen Meadows of Covington, Va., and Anthony James (Tony) Meadows and wife Bridget of Antioch, Tenn.; four great-grandchildren, Madison Elizabeth Meadows, Faith Alexis Meadows, Darcy Jean Meadows and Ryan James Meadows.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 24, 2013, at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Butch Honaker and Pastor Bill Hartsfield officiating. Burial will follow in Restwood Memorial Gardens in Hinton. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.

Men of First Baptist Church of Hinton will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Scholarship Fund-Temple Baptist Church, 300 Stratton St., Covington, VA 24426.

DILLE — Helen Louise Ramsey, 87, of Dille, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013.

Basil Ross Sweeney

Basil Ross Sweeney, 87, of Beckley, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2013, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley.

Born August 13, 1926, at Sweeneysburg, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Eliza Tyree Sweeney.

Basil was employed by the state of WV Department of Veterans Affairs and retired from the Department of Environmental Protection.

He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School class of 1945. Mr. Sweeney was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Beckley where he served as trustee, usher and President of the Pathfinders Sunday school class. He volunteered at Helping Hands and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a product of the greatest generation. He was a lifetime member of the Moose and 50 plus year member of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his infant twin sons, Charles and Clinton; and as the last surviving member of his immediate family by brothers, Edra, Cecil, Grady, Dorsey, Ira and Ray, and sister, Gustava.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Maxine (Mickey) Sweeney; daughter, Carolyn (David) Earehart; son, Larry (Linda) Sweeney; five grandchildren, Amy Earehart Key, Carrie Earehart, Donley Sweeney, Shawn Sweeney and Jack Sweeney; great-granddaughter, Camryn Key; and sister-in-law, Loretta Sweeney.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope, with Rev. Rick Waller officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope, on Tuesday, October 22, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church, 217 Heber Street, Beckley, WV 25801.
