— Aaron Alfred Austin

Mr. Aaron Alfred Austin, 70, of Beckley, died Thursday, October 10, 2013.

Born December 7, 1942, in Fireco, W.Va., he was the son of the late Edward and Viola Austin.

He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, one brother, and a daughter Tiffany Austin.

Left to cherish precious memories are his children, Matthew and Farrah Austin and their mother, Wanda Wotten, all of Hamden, Conn.; Tony, Laura, Linda, and Lucretia “LuLu” Austin and their mother, Elizabeth Greene Austin, all of New Britain, Conn.; brothers, Kenneth L. (Saundra) of Laurel, Md., Edward Jr. of Stretta, Ill., Marion (Carolyn) of Beckley, Orlando G. (Donna) of Richmond, Va., Michael D. (Mattie) of Charleston, W.Va., Danny L. of Germantown, Md., and Freddrick L. of Beckley; sisters, Maurine Austin of Germantown, Md., Lenora Austin of Fort Smith, Ark., Brenda Austin of Beckley, Barbara Portis-Austin of Dayton, Ohio, Lucille (Jessie) Austin- Berry, Loraine Austin, and Annette M. Austin, all of Beckley; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; special friend, Lawrence K. Henry, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, October 19, 2013, at New Hope Baptist Church, 305 Worley Rd., Beckley, with Rev. Nathaniel Carey officiating. Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Institute.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.

Lundy Lewis Boggess Sr.

September 9, 1935 – October 13, 2013

“He fought a good fight and ran a good race...” Lundy Lewis Boggess Sr. gave up his battle with cancer on Sunday, October 13, 2013, at the Beckley Veterans Hospital.

Lewis was 78 years old, a Marine veteran, and retired coal miner. He was married to his only sweetheart, Freda Gail Wills Boggess for 58 years. Of this union four children survive along with their mother. His son Lundy Lewis Jr., his companion Deborah Parson, along with his children Lucas and Sarah Boggess of Damron and James Argabrite of Saint Marys, Ga.; his daughter Teresa Lynn Combs of Glen Daniel along with her children Shane and wife Miranda Combs and their children Mason, Cole River, and Lola of Lynchburg, Va., daughter Megan and her husband Joe Wood of Philadelphia, Pa.; his daughter Kelli Elaine and husband Danny Acord of Fairdale along with their children, Danny and wife Bonnie Acord with their children Conner, Cooper, and Baylee Layne of Fairdale, daughter Norma Jean and companion Eric Combs of Camp Creek, son Zac and his companion Alicia Petry and son Easton of Orgas; his son Joe Eddie and wife Sherry of Glen Daniel and her daughter April Campbell, his children Aaron (A.J.) Keith, son James and wife Miranda, their children Kaylynn, Lilee, and Jamey of Stover, Joshua and wife Tressa and their son Mason of Damron, and daughter Kaitlyn Jo of Pinnacle, N.C.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lunda and Eliza Boggess, a sister Edna Crites, brother Calvin, brother-in-law Charles Case and an infant brother. In addition to his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Lewis is also survived by his best friend and brother Jimmy and wife Ramona, brother Howard and wife Jean, sister Sennie Case as well as a brother-in-law Don Crites. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be Saturday, October 19, 2013, at Sunset Mausoleum on Harper Road in Beckley. Final resting services will be at 3 p.m. with friends calling one hour prior to the service.

Rose &Quesenberry will be servicing the family. Flowers are being received by Sunset Memorial.

Freel Boyd

FAYETTEVILLE — Freel Boyd, 94, of Fayetteville, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2013, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Beckley.

Born March 9, 1919, at Ealemsville, Va., he was the son of the late Jesse Claude and Mary (Lucy) Whitlock Boyd.

Well known in the construction business, Freel was a retired foreman for Erdman Construction.

Mr. Boyd was a member of the Fellowship Memorial Baptist Church and attended Cotton Hill Baptist Church.

He was a World War II U.S .Army veteran having served with the 82nd Airborne Division.

His first wife who was the mother of his children, Hila Mildred Humphrey Boyd; second wife, Thelma Gertrude Hendrickson Craddock Boyd and third wife, Nellie Marie Davis Coleman Boyd preceded him in death as did a son, William Boyd; daughter, Harlean Rice; son-in-law, Billie Joe Rice; daughter-in-law, Joan Boyd; and sisters, Ida McKinney, Goldie Cooper, Marie Burgess, Lena “Mickey” Whitt, Sylvia Young and Irene Boyd.

Survivors include sons, Stanley Boyd and wife, Charlene of Fayetteville and Gary Boyd and wife, Lucille of Plainville, Mass.; daughter, Savannah Jeffries of St. Augustine, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Arvilla Boyd of Ft. Pierce, Fla. and brother, James “Roy” Boyd of Canvas.

He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Denise Roeder and husband, Paul of Columbus, OH, Jerry Rice of Fayetteville, Dale Boyd and wife, Amy of Ft. Pierce, Curtis Boyd of Ft. Pierce, Beverly Boyd-Miller and husband, Jim of Austin, Texas, Debbie Jamieson of Attleboro, MA, Pamela Bastis and husband, Robert of Dighton, Mass., Tami Egbert and husband, Jeff of Russellville, Ohio, Angela Keim and husband, Jonathan of St. Augustine, Fla., Tina Boyd of Beckley and Annette Rutledge and husband, Joe of Lewis Center, Ohio; 17 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, October 17, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Pastor Robert Pauley officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill with military graveside rites by Oak Hill VFW Post No. 3110. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 121 Talbert Avenue, Fayetteville WV 25840.

Elmer Lee Brewer

STRONGSVILLE, Ohio — Elmer Lee Brewer, age 70, of Strongsville, passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at Southwest General Health Center in Middleburg Heights, Ohio.

Arrangements are pending completion at Rose and Quesenberry, 1901 S. Kanawha Street, Beckley.

Louzania ‘Dana’ Ann Huffman Craddock

Louzania “Dana” Ann Huffman Craddock, 92, of Pax, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 following an extended illness.

Born February 12, 1921, at Harper, she was the daughter of the late Emory and Mae Kincaid Huffman.

Dana was a homemaker. She was a member of the Long Branch United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and choir member. She had many talents including music and writing poetry.

Her first husband, Homer Jack Craddock; second husband, Bert McNeely; three brothers, Avery, Medare and Carl Huffman and sisters, Vivalore Billings and Madge Stanley and a special caregiver, Mable Williams all preceded her in death.

Survivors include those left to cherish her memory, three sons, Gary Craddock and wife, AnnaMae of Daleville, Va., Jack Craddock and wife, Sue of Fayetteville and Colin Craddock and wife, Mildred of Elyria, Ohio; daughter, Lynn Williams and husband, Ken of Beckley; 10  grandchildren, Lori, Lisa, Steve, Michelle, Jack, Mike, Joe, Cheyenne, Dwain and Kim and seventeen great grandchildren.

She is also survived by two brothers, Pat Huffman of Ballard and Uria Huffman of Edgewood, Md.; a sister-in-law, Dottie Huffman of Tunnelton along with many special nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to thank the employees of Hilltop Center for the wonderful care and concern they gave and also thanks to a special caregiver and friend, Diana Wallen.

Funeral services will be on Friday, October 18, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope with Pastor Harmon Davis officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity. Friends may call two hours prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Billy Joe Dick Sr.

RAMP — Billy Joe Dick Sr., 35, of Ramp, died Monday, October 14, 2013, at his home.

Born May 4, 1978, at Summers County, he was a son of Dorothy Cales and husband Gary of Ramp and the late Cleo Dick.

Billy attended Lighthouse Church of Jesus and Ramp Holiness Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with family and friends.

Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Rebecca Dick.

Besides his mother, those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 14 years, Rachel Brown Dick; two sons, Billy Dick Jr. and Cleo James Dick; two daughters, Juanita “Nina” Dick and Julie Dick all of Ramp; two brothers, James “Boone” Dick and wife Jessie of Pearisburg, VA and Hobert Dick and wife Nicole of White Sulphur Springs.  He will be sadly missed and never forgotten by his grandma, Ada Mae Ward. He is also survived by two stepbrothers, Larry and Tony Cales of Ramp; one stepsister, April Massie of Mont Cove Lake and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, October 18, 2013, at Ramp Holiness Church with Pastor Joshua Southern officiating. Burial will follow in the Dick Cemetery at Ramp.

Friends may call at the funeral parlors from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and one hour prior to services at the church.

Josh Cales, Jerry Cales, Carlos Davis, Jay Gunn, Carey Ward, Gary and Larry Cales, Billy Dick Jr. and R.E. Dick will serve as pallbearers.

WILLIAMSTON, N.C. — Nina Hazel Fowler, 90, formerly of Hillsboro, died Oct. 13, 2013.

Bruce Allen       Hatfield

Bruce Allen Hatfield, 37, of Beckley, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, in a car crash in Virginia.

He leaves behind his parents, Kitty and Mickey; his birth mother, Connie Lynn Adkins, the wife of Michael Adkins. He also leaves behind his loving children, Tiffany, 17, Ashley, 13, and a son Jacob, 5; a brother, Chris Wells and family of Matewan. Two step-brothers, Josh and Brandon Adkins of Beckley; a step-sister, Mikki Bliss of Ocala, Fla.; aunt Leslie Dotson of Cleveland, Tenn. and one very special nephew, William “Bub” Daniels of Matewan.

Bruce is preceded in death by his sister, Michelle Daniels.

Bruce was always good for a big hug and a good laugh. He enjoyed fishing, swimming and wrestling.

Military services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2013, at Workman Creek Methodist Church in Clear Creek, W.Va.

The family would like to give special thanks to Michael Adkins, Josh Adkins, Dave and Sue Mounts, J and Angie Stover and Patty Lake. Hope we didn’t forget anyone. Bruce’s adoptive father, Ronald B. Hatfield was in Kentucky.

Bruce will be sadly missed by everyone.

Robert L. ‘Bob’   Holliday

Robert L. “Bob” Holliday, 51, passed away October 12, 2013.

He was born February 18, 1962, to the late Robert Joseph and Betty Jo Lanham Holliday.

Those left to cherish his memory are wife, Crystal Crouse Holliday; children, Robert Holliday Jr. of Beckley, Jacquelyn Holliday of Beckley, Kyra Thompson, Candice Price, Derrick Crouse, Linsey Holliday; sisters, Pam Lee and husband Richard of Phoenix, Ariz., Debi Anderson and husband Robert of Fontona, Calif.; brother, Ronal Holliday and wife Shelly of Colo.; grandchildren, Candice Price and companion Jerry Adkins, Kyra Thompson.

Margaret Ann Miller

Margaret Ann Miller, 62, of Daniels, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 14, 2013.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father and brother. Margaret was born on November 29, 1950.

Ms. Miller is survived by her three  children, Keith Sturgill of West Virginia, Billy Miller of Virginia and Mary Ann of North Carolina; three sisters, Brenda Overcash of North Carolina, Sandra Redden of West Virginia and Mary Lou Whipple of North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Dakota, Joshua, Hunter, Hailey, Erica, Alexzander and Nakita.  She also has a great-grandchild, Barry.

Margaret made the decision for her body to be donated where it will be studied to possibly help others. So at this time there will be no funeral services.

Lovina Ruth ‘Venus’ Morgan

 Lovina Ruth “Venus” Morgan, age 36 of Old Crow Road, Beaver, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.

Born on June 26, 1977, in Ronceverte, she was the daughter of Peggy Perkins Morgan of Old Crow Road, Beaver and the late Clifford H. Morgan.

She was a former employee of Padrino’s and  KFC in Beaver. Lovina was a member of the Caldwell Pentecostal Holiness Church as a child. She enjoyed cooking, dancing and NASCAR.

Surviving other than her mother include her siblings, Curtis H. Morgan of Beaver, Kayla Alley and her fiancé J.T. Lilly of Mabscott, and Kristopher Alley of Shady Spring. Nieces Jazlyn and Harmonie Lilly and a nephew Jaylen Lilly. Maternal grandparents, Curtis and Lorraine Perkins of Ronceverte and Paternal grandparents Charles and Thelma Morgan of Ronceverte. Three aunts and two uncles, and her step father Kris Alley of Shady Spring  also survive.

A memorial service will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel on Saturday, October 19, 2013, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Robert Thompson officiating. Friends may visit with the family 30 minutes prior to the services.

Lucy Marie Craft Plumley

HILLDALE — Lucy Marie Craft Plumley, 72, of Hilldale, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at her home after a long illness.

She was born September 30, 1941, in Hinton, a daughter of the late George Douglas and Opal Pearl Bennett Craft.

Mrs. Plumley was a 1961 graduate of Talcott High School. She was a former employee of the Pence Springs Sewing Factory and also Summers Continuous Care Center at Hilldale. She was also a homemaker and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. She was a member of Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church at Hilldale.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Richard Plumley; two sons, Richard “Rick” Plumley and Michael “Mick” Plumley, both of Hilldale; five grandchildren, Michael Paul, Plumley, Amanda Marie Hoke, Anthony Sean Plumley, Alexis Plumley and Tyler Ray Plumley; six great grandchildren, Hunter, Plumley, Lucas Hoke, Taylor Hoke, Desirae Plumley, Isaiah Plumley and Tanner Plumley; four sisters, Judy Presley and husband Carroll, Alice Lane and husband Jerry, Bonnie Hinton and late husband Grant and Rhodetta Hinton and husband Tommy. Several nieces and nephews and close family friends, Nathan McKinney and Brian Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday October 18, 2013, at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Benny Cozort officiating. Burial will follow in Greenbrier Burial Park in Hinton. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Margaret Loraine Richmond

Margaret Loraine Richmond, 83, passed away October 10 2013.

She was born October 1, 1930, to the late Charley and Violet Spencer Conley.

Those left to cherish her memory are sons, Jack Lacy and wife Janell of Canvas, Cecil Manning and wife Sharron of Oak Hill, Fred Mahood and Family of Oak Hill; sister, Helen Chapman of Ohio; long time friends Jetta Mahood and Carol Dobbs and a host of grand children and friends.

Service will be 5 p.m. Friday, October 18, at High Lawn Funeral Chapel, Oak Hill with Pastor Pete Lokant officiating.

Mary L. Sexton

Mary Leona Sexton, age 49, departed this life on Saturday, Oct. 12th, 2013.

She was born to the late John and Gloria Sexton on Nov. 1st, 1963.

Mary battled a long illness most of her young life. She never gave up. She tried to live a life full of love, maintaining a brave and courageous outlook on life. Mary was a homemaker who enjoyed staying with her two dogs, George and Punk.

Survivors include three children, Michael Losik and his wife, Andrea Losik of North Carolina, Shannon Lilly of Rhodell and John Huff of Hinton; four grandchildren, Logan Mullens, Shayden Huff, Brayden Huff and Nathan Losik;  also included are three aunts, Peggy Meadows, Theresa Cadle and Almeda Sexton DiBacco along with many more family and friends.

There will be a private graveside service for family and friends at the Hannah Lilly Cemetery at Odd.

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Barbara Ellen Shrader, 60, of Bluefield, formerly of Coon Branch, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2013.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, October 17, 2013, at Christ Cathedral with Bro. Douglas Bowman officiating. She will be laid to rest in Powell Cemetery, High Knob, W.Va.

Gail Rosetta Poore Staunton

FAYETTEVILLE — Mrs. Gail Rosetta Poore Staunton, 58, of Fayetteville, died Saturday, October 12, 2013.

Born December 3, 1954, in Kaymoor, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Clinton Lee Poore and Daisy Beata Crowe.

Mrs. Staunton was a customer service worker at Walmart and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Garten.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Wright.

Left to cherish precious memories are her loving husband, Milton Staunton, children, Jason Poore of Kaymoor; Jessica Young of Chesapeake, Va. and Jamie Staunton of Kaymoor; grandson, Isaiah Young of Chesapeake, Va.; brothers, William Poore of Charlotte, N.C. and Clarence Poore of Suffolk, Va.; sisters, Marion Jackson of Charleston, W.Va.; Lena Lewis of Ansted, W.Va.; Clara Poore and Claudia Davis of Oak Hill and a host of other relatives and friends.
