Clarence M. ‘Roe’ Carver
EDMOND — Clarence M. “Roe” Carver, 93, of Edmond, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2013, following a long illness.
Clarence was born May 19, 1920, at Edmond, he was the son of the late Aaron and Lillian Carver.
He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Betty Lou Ritter Carver.
Roe was a coal miner for 30 years plus. He was the last remaining survivor of his immediate family.
Survivors are his wife of 74 years, Martha J. Carver; three daughters, Mary L. Wynes of Arlington, Va., Marcella A. Sine and Alvin of Hardy, Va., Betty J. Legg and Harold (Buzzy) of Lookout; four sons, Randolph M. Carver and Martha R. of Edmond, James E. Carver of Corliss, Larry M. Carver and Pam of Hico, Charles D. Carver and Jeanette of Edmond.; 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, October 11, 2013, at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home Chapel in Ansted. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Restlawn Memory Gardens in Victor with Rev. Harold (Buzzy) Legg officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens

HINTON — Jack Richard Givens Sr., 87, of Madams Creek, Hinton, died Monday, October 7, 2013, at Main Street Care, Hinton following a short illness.
Born February 12, 1926 in Charleston, W.Va., he was the son of the late George and Emma Martin Givens.
Jack was a retired coal miner and member of the United Mine Workers. He was a veteran of the Navy and also the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hinton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Rowsey Givens in 2011. Also by a son, Jack R. Givens Jr. and a sister, Betty Maynard.
Survivors include a son, Franklin Ray Givens of Tenino, Wash., a daughter, Beatrice Givens and husband Alexander Anderson of Spanaway, Wash.; one brother, George Givens of Jumping Branch; four grandchildren, Amber Parks, Mindy Morales, Jack Givens III and Jamie Doyle; four great grandchildren, Jamie and Elizabeth Givens, Armond Givens-Morales and Tabitha Givens-Morales.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 11, 2013, at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Butch Honaker officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

FIRECO — Mrs. Claudia Mae Green, 86, of Fireco, died Thursday, October 3, 2013.
Services will be noon Saturday, October 12, 2013, at Heart of God Ministries 1703 S. Kanawha Street, Beckley with Bishop Fred T. Simms and Elder William Catus officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

GLEN FORK — Thomas Leon Hill, 53, of Glen Fork, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness.
Born February 7, 1960, at Mullens, he was the son of the late Joseph Dempster Hill and Anna Mae Bailey Hill.
Thomas was of the Pentecostal faith. He enjoyed computers, NASCAR, his dogs, and being with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie Hill and Bobby Hill and a sister, Gaynell “Blue” Walker.
Survivors include his companion, Nora Belt of Glen Fork; three daughters, Amy Hill of Texas, Loretta and Tammy Bullins of North Carolina; his long time companion of 17 years, Patsy Bullins of North Carolina; three brothers, Jerry Lee Hill and wife, Linda of Saulsville, Frankie Hill and his wife, Carla of Crany and Eddie Hill and his fiancé, Cathy Smyth of Pineville; four sisters, Edna Francis and her husband, Roy of Glen Fork, Frances Summers and her husband, Billy of Glen Fork, Drema Spears and her companion, Robert Laxton of Turkey Dip and Judy Walker and her husband, Leroy of New Richmond.
He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of Thomas’s life will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, October 10, 2013, in the Calfee Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Sam Francis officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until time of the service. Burial will follow at the Glen Fork Community Cemetery, Glen Fork.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Johnny was a lifetime member of the UMWA and enjoyed the woods, going ginsanging, watching sports and spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Charles Michael Thomson.
