HARDEEVILLE, S.C. —  Paul A. Aliff Sr., 51 of Hardeeville, formerly of Beckley, passed away at his home on Saturday September 28, 2013.

Michael Edward ‘Mickey’ Belcher

PRINCETON — Michael Edward “Mickey” Belcher, 72, of 501 Barborosa Lane in Princeton, died Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.

Born July 11, 1941, in Blacksburg, Va., he was the son of the late James E. “Big Jim” Belcher and Clara Louise Thomas Belcher.

He was a 1959 graduate of Princeton High School, 1964 graduate of Concord College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Mathematics, and received his Masters Degree in Secondary Education in 1990 from the College of Graduate Studies. Mickey was a retired Mercer County Schools Science and Chemistry teacher. He taught several years at Bluefield High School before transferring to Princeton Senior High School where he taught until retirement. He worked for Dupont for two years as a Chemist Foreman, eight years at Appalachian Regional Hospital and six years at Bluefield Regional Medical Center as a Clinical Chemist. He also served as Assistant Plant Manager for Celtite in Princeton and as an Assistant Manager for Eckards in Princeton. He was an active member of the First United Church in Princeton where he served as a Sunday School teacher and on numerous church committees. He was also a member of the Chancel Choir and Adult Handbell Choir of the church. Mickey was a member of the American Chemical Society, National Education Association, West Virginia Education Association, and the Mercer County Education Association. He also served as Chaplain for Gideons International in the Mercer County area.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Ann Ballard Belcher.

Survivors include one son, Michael P. Belcher and his wife Sara Bavis of Blacksburg, Va.; one daughter, Clarissa Lynne Belcher Sutton and husband Tal of Ghent, W.Va. with whom he made his home since May; one grandson, Tal Russell Sutton II; one brother, James Scott Belcher and wife Debbie of Fisherville, Va. and one sister, Janice L. “Susie” Belcher of Princeton.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Thursday, October 3, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church in Princeton with Rev. Scott Sears officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Park Cemetery in Princeton.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call at the church from noon to the service hour on Thursday.

WEST LOGAN — Lava Eudora Hargis Dingess, 80 of West Logan, passed away on September 30, 2013.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 4 at 11 a.m. at Honaker Funeral Home of Logan with Bishop Michael Davis officiating. The Reverend Charles Blankenship will be in charge of the Eulogy. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.

CRAIGSVILLE — Kenneth Roy Jackson, 73, of Craigsville, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2013.

Pat Junior Murphy

OAK HILL — Pat Junior Murphy, 62, of Oak Hill, died on Sunday, September 29, 2013, at his home.

Born June 19, 1951, at Oak Hill, he was the son of the late John Alexander and Sally Hall Murphy.

Pat was a 1970 graduate of Collins High School in Oak Hill. He was a Hydraulic Repairman for W. R. Murdock and Sons and an employee of Kroger.

He was a member of the Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene.

For 46 years Pat’s most cherished memories were during the Christmas season. He loved playing Santa and sharing his love toward children and their families.

A brother, James Ray Davis and a sister, Gracie McGuffin preceded him in death.

Survivors include wife, Virginia Frances Bowling Murphy; daughter, Stephanie Shrewsberry and husband, Moses of Fayetteville and two grandchildren, Levi Shrewsberry and Alexis Shrewsberry, both of Fayetteville.

Also surviving is a brother, Mike Murphy and his wife, Susie of Beckwith.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, October 3, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Mike Legg and Rev. Benny Bleigh officiating. Burial will be at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill.

Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Chloe Neely

RICHMOND, Va. — Chloe Neely, 82, of Richmond, Va., passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2013, in a Richmond, Va. hospital.

Ronald Edward Perry

Ronald Edward Perry, 81, of Beckley, passed peacefully into eternal life on Saturday, September 28th. Terribly missing Peggy, his wife of almost 54 years, he went home to be with her and Jesus after losing her nearly three months ago.

Ron, as most knew him, leaves behind three children: Kimberly Perry of Charlotte, N.C., Ronald Perry II of Mount Holly, N.C. and Rebecca Perry of Denver, Colo.

Ron was a member of the First Baptist Church of Beckley and enjoyed serving as a deacon and a Gideon. Ron graduated from WV Tech and served in the Air Force. He worked for years at the Social Security Office in Beckley. 

In his earlier years, Ron enjoyed hunting, fishing and tinkering in what his family lovingly referred to as his “workshop.” Often referring to himself as “MacGyver,” Ron loved to creatively solve problems and fix things around the house with materials he found at hand. In later years he enjoyed bird watching, planting flowers, herbs and once, a prize-winning tomato.

Ron’s life will be celebrated at a memorial service Thursday, October 3rd, at 1 p.m. at Blue Ridge Funeral Home in Beckley. Visitation will precede the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Rev. Doc Adkins officiating. 

He will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife Peggy in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Donald Wayne Puckett

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Donald “Don” Wayne Puckett, 73, passed away at home Monday, September 30, 2013.

Don was born April 15, 1940, in Kilsyth, W.Va., the son of the late Hazel Charlotte Bibb Puckett and Charles Richard Puckett.

He was a member of First Christian Church of Charlotte. Don was a loving father and grandfather who loved his family. His love of music was a hobby and enjoyed sharing his music with family and friends. He has coached baseball with Winterfield Athletic Club. He was a charter of Windsor Park Optimist Club. Don worked for Life of Virginia Insurance Company and had been retired for several years.

Mr. Puckett was preceded in death by his brother, Charles S. Puckett and sisters, Margaret Beirne and Charlotte Bookman.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, 1200 East Boulevard, Charlotte, NC  28203.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 4, 2013, at First Christian Church, 1200 East Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28203.

The family will receive friends at First Christian Church from noon to 2 p.m. prior to the service.

Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212.

RONCEVERTE — Virginia Sue Rollyson, 76, of Ronceverte, passed away Monday, Sept. 30, 2013.

The first of two memoial services will be 12 noon Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at the Elvation Baptist Church in Millersburg, Md., with the Rev. Dallas Bumgarner officiating. The second memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at the Liberty Missionary Baptist Church in Ronceverte, with the Rev. Donnie Weikle officiating.
