Almeda Grey Cochran

ORGAN CAVE — Almeda Grey Cochran, 87, of Organ Cave, W.Va., passed away Saturday morning, October 20, 2012, at Greenbrier Valley Hospital in Fairlea.

Mrs. Cochran was born May 7, 1925, in Buckeye, WV, and was the daughter of the late Morgan A. and Stella E. Fuller Fink.

Almeda was a member of Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and a Bible School Teacher. She also was a volunteer of the Meals on Wheels Program and volunteered at the Brier Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Preceded in death by, other than her parents, a sister, Ruth Lance.

Survivors include husband Joseph M. Cochran; daughter Joyce Gray Lefebure and husband John of Hagerstown, MD; sons Gary Stephen Cochran and wife Susan of Tallahassee, FL, and Michael Joseph Cochran and wife Diane of Princeton, WV; sister Nyta Knight of Lewisburg, WV; brothers Morgan A. Fink, Jr., of Woodbridge, VA, and Sydney Fink of Baltimore, MD; grandchildren Patrick Michael Cochran of Lewisburg, Caroline Rachel Lefebure of NH, Elizabeth Marie Henning of Traverse City, MI, Rachel Alexandria Cochran of Boston, MA, Lauren Julia Cochran of Philadelphia, PA, and Michael Cochran of Boca Raton, FL; great-grandchildren Michael P. Cochran, Madeline Cochran, Joe Cochran, Caden Cochran, Grayson Cochran and Eva Grace Henning.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg, with the Rev. Mike Estep and Ms. Ella Dorsey officiating. Burial will be in Rosewood Cemetery in Lewisburg.

Family will receive their friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday, October 22, 2012, at the funeral home.

Following the graveside services the family and friends will be gathering at Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church at Organ Cave for fellowship.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contribution be made to either Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church, Rt. 2 Box 65A, Ronceverte, WV 24970, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Irene Corley, 96, of Daniels, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012.

Charles Wesley Dorsey

Charles Wesley Dorsey, age 64, of White Oak, WV, passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2012, at the Beckley VA Medical Center.

Born on November 11, 1947, in Beaver, WV, he was the son of the late James Dorsey and Edith Epperly Dorsey.

Mr. Dorsey was employed at Glade Springs with 22 years of service in the maintenance department and was a former employee of WV American Water Company. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict serving in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Dorsey graduated from Shady Spring High School and had attended Beckley College. 

He was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Dorsey, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Irene and Arnold Redden.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife of 37 years, Emma Redden Dorsey, a son, Thad Dorsey and his wife Terran of Shady Spring, a daughter Tarrah Trump and her husband Joe of Shady Spring.

Six grandchildren, Megan Trump, Felicity Cadle, Brinleigh Bailey, Delaney Trump, Jeremy Trump, and Evan Dorsey.

He was a wonderful grandfather to his grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters, Donna Hicks and her husband Donald of Cabot, Arkansas, Patty Hootman and her husband Jack of Cocoa, Florida, Paula Volpie and her husband Joe of Columbus, Ohio, and Pamela Smith and her husband Jimmy of Crab Orchard. Two special friends, Bill and Larry Smith.

Funeral services will be conducted to Celebrate The Life Of Charles Wesley Dorsey on Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel with Rev. Delmas Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.

Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Thad Dorsey, Adam Redden, Joe Trump, Donnie Plumley, Brian Phillips, and David Williams.

Jeannette Sue Fox

OAK HILL — Jeannette Sue Fox, 79, of Oak Hill, WV, died on Friday, October 19, 2012, at Hidden Valley Nursing and Rehab Center in Oak Hill, WV.

Born June 19, 1933, at Oak Hill, WV, she was the daughter of the late Forrest W. and Irene Blake Fox.

Miss Fox was a 1951 graduate of Oak Hill High School, was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church and was a member of Southern Cross Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was a former employee of Tom Martin Insurance and United National Bank at Fayetteville.

Sisters, Forrest Ann Balding, Carolyn L. Rogers Wagner, Nancy Elmore, Virginia Mae Fox, and a brother, Burke Walton Fox, preceded her in death.

Survivors include two brothers, Lorah L. “Bud” Fox and wife, Chloe, of Oak Hill and Thomas William Fox and wife, Carol J., of Washington, NC. Also surviving are 9 nieces and nephews, 13 great-nieces and nephews and four great-great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at the Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. David Sneed officiating. Entombment will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to services on Tuesday, October 23, 2012.

Marion Evlyn Paulett Lowman

CHESTERFIELD, Va. — Marion Evlyn Paulett Lowman, 84, of Chesterfield, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 20, 2012.

She was preceded in death by her parents: William Henry Paulett and Myrtle Jane Starr Paulett; sisters Rosalie Paulett and Virgie Mae Paulett Knight; and brother Grover Starr Paulett.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Frank A. Lowman; daughter Paulette L. Umberger (Art Lambert); sister, Eleanor Imogene Taylor; brother, William Allen Paulett; grandchildren, Jerry L. Umberger, Jr., (Leann) and Casey N. Radford (Adam); great-grandchildren, Isabella Umberger, Tyler Radford, Vince Umberger and due in November baby girl Radford.

Marion graduated from Manchester High School and became an assistant Vice President of First Mortgage Corporation. She retired from Nations Bank after over 40 years of service. She accompanied her husband and daughter on a three-month business trip to Australia in 1968. Her later travels included many countries in Asia, Europe and Latin America. Marion loved spending time with the family on Thanksgiving and Christmas. She also enjoyed yearly vacations to Myrtle Beach and Gwynn’s Island. She was the nicest and most caring person who never met a stranger anywhere in the world. Marion was a member of Branch’s Baptist Church and especially enjoyed working with the children. Her flower garden contained beautiful roses but nothing was more beautiful than her smile when she received the cut roses at the back door.

The family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Road (Rte. 10). Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be 2 p.m. at Union Baptist Church Cemetery, Amelia.



Billy Loyd Nicely

Billy Loyd Nicely, 84, of MacArthur, passed away Saturday, Oct. 21, 2012.

A celebration of Billy’s life will be at noon Thursday, Oct. 25, at the Old Grove Chapel in Crab Orchard with the Rev. Ronald Adkins and the Rev. Gary Nicely officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home in Beckley.

Thelma Christine Shawver

Thelma Christine Shawver, age 74, of Beckley, passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at her home following an extended illness.

She was born on August 31, 1938, in Kincaid, WV, to the late Oscar Underwood and Madge Dunbar Underwood.

Mrs. Shawver was a homemaker and enjoyed reading and doing her cross word puzzles. She loved to cook and spend time with her family. Despite her illness, Thelma was a strong woman and was determined to pull through. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and will be sadly missed.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 49 years Mr. Howard Ray Shawver, at home; daughter, Debbie Hawkins (Jeffrey) of Beckley; brothers, Charles Underwood (Betty), Woody Underwood (Linda), and David Underwood (Vicky) all of Beckley; grandchildren, Dustin Hawkins and fiancée Aleasa Parker, and Erica Hawkins of Beckley; great-grandchildren, Collin Parker and Trevor Hawkins; 2 special girls that knew her as “Mamaw,” Isabella and Annabelle Browning; nieces and nephews, Taffy Hower (Chris) and their children Elijah and Kalli, Allison Napier (Tim) and their children Kassidy and Ava, all whom referred to Thelma as “Nanny,” and Robin and Drexal Harrah, and Tammy and Ralph Martin.

A celebration of Thelma’s life will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2012, at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Chapel in Beckley with Rev. Lee Dunbar officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

RICHWOOD — Thomas Robert Thompson, 66, of Richwood, passed away Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, in Holy Family Catholic Church, Richwood, with Father Dominikus Baok officiating. Interment will be in West Virginia Memorial Gardens, Richwood. Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday in the church.

Norma J. Tilley

SABINE — Norma J. Tilley, 55, of Sabine, passed away Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, with Pastor Charles Tilley officiating. Norma will be laid to rest in Tilley-Tolliver Cemetery, Twin Falls. Friends may call from noon until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

Eddie Lynn ‘Red’ Whited

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — Eddie Lynn “Red” Whited, 81, of White Sulphur Springs passed away Saturday, October 20, 2012, at Genesis White Sulphur Springs after a short illness.

Born July 1, 1931, in Replete, WV, he was the son of the late Basil and Nelva Robinson Whited.

Red was retired from WV Division of Highways where he served as Greenbrier County road supervisor for eight years. He served on the Greenbrier County Democrat Executive Committee and one term on the White Sulphur Springs City Council. He was a member of the Beaver Lick Hunt Club and Whatcoat United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Jeffrey “Red” Whited, daughter-in-law Beverly, brother Richard, and nephew Stan Whited.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Zelma Persinger Whited; daughters Jennifer Burgess (Denny) of St. Albans, Judy Burns (Grover) of White Sulphur Springs; grandsons Ben (Meredith) Whited of Lewisburg, Whitney (Ali) Whited of Dawson, Neil Burns of Long Island, NY, John Burns of White Sulphur Springs; granddaughter, Holly Jo Burns of White Sulphur Springs; four great-grandchildren, Kaylee Hensley, Annie, Cora and Jobe Whited, and brother, Leon (Becky) Whited.

He is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 22, at McCraw Funeral Home, Lewisburg, WV, with Gerald Roberts officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, October 21, 6 to 8 p.m. at McCraw Funeral Home.
