Virginia Ruth Cameron
Virginia Ruth Cameron, 88, of Rock Creek, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 19, 2012, at the Appalachian Regional Hospital, Beckley, WV, after a long illness.
She was born November 8, 1923, at Stotesbury, WV, a daughter of the late Juan and Carucen “Clara” Gray Sanchez.
In addition to his parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Artist Henderson and William O. “Shorty” Cameron, and a son, William J. “Butterball” Cameron.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Roger “Murla” Henderson, Carol Sue Ellis, Richard “Brenda” Henderson, Jerry “Cathy” Cameron, Sandy “Junior” Milam, Terry Cameron, and Bobbie “Pete” Gunnoe; two sisters, Bobbie and Angie; 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; special sister-in-law, Cookie; special friends, Phillip Richmond, Laura Stover Keister; her faithful companion, Sunshine “Houndog”; and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon, October 24, 2012, at 12 o’clock noon in the Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, WV, with the Rev. David Cook. Interment will be in Pineview Cemetery, Orgas, WV.
Visitation will be held Tuesday afternoon from 5 to 8 at the funeral home.

Wanda Faye Taylor Dean
OAK HILL — Wanda Faye Taylor Dean, age 59, of Oak Hill, WV, passed away on Friday, October 19, 2012, at her residence.
Wanda was born on September 27, 1953, at Millstone, KY; she was the daughter of the late Lilburn and Hannah Stevens Taylor. Wanda was a registered nurse, was of the Holiness faith and was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Surviving are her son, Walden Thomas and his wife Jenny of Oak Hill, WV, her daughter, Tammy Salas and husband Ariosto of Moultrie, GA, a grandson whom she raised, Marcos Salas, additional grandchildren, Swayde Thomas, Hayley Thomas, Danyele Salas, Jorge Salas and Mariana Salas. Also surviving are her two sisters, Lucy Smith and husband Ronnie of Sandyhook, KY, Vienna Spearman of Vanworth, OH, and her brother, Robert Taylor and his wife Pauletta of Millstone, KY.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 22, 2012, at the Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, WV, with Rev. Delmas Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Pea Ridge Road, Oak Hill, WV.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 21, 2012.

OAK HILL — Sylvia Marie Holliday Jarvis, 96, of Oak Hill, WV, died on Friday, October 19, 2012, at Hidden Valley Nursing and Rehab Center in Oak Hill, WV.
Born April 9, 1916, at Graydon, WV, she was the daughter of the late John and Clara Parrish Holliday.
Mrs. Jarvis was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Oak Hill. She was a homemaker.
Her husband, August Jarvis, son, Joe Anderson Jarvis, and two daughters, Mary Lou Jarvis and Anne Jarvis, preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Rudolph Holliday, and two sisters, Nellie Toney and Agnes Bickford.
Survivors include one son, David Jarvis of Muncie, IN, and a daughter, Janet Jarvis of Oak Hill.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, October 22, 2012, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 123 Elmore Street, Oak Hill, WV, with Father Paul Yuenger officiating.
Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Donald Ray Lester
Donald “Joe” Ray Lester, 82, of Lester passed on Thursday, October 18, 2012, following a short illness.
Joe was born the middle child of three sons born to the late Laci French and Lucy Jane East Lester on July 23, 1930, in Lester, WV.
Joe had lived in Lester all his life; he was the last surviving member of his family for whom the town of Lester was named.
Joe was a veteran of the U.S. Marines Corps from 1950 to 1953 having served in the Korean War.
He worked as a coal truck driver at Ranger Fuel in Bolt. When we remember Joe, we will remember how he enjoyed doing mechanic work on cars, hunting, fishing but his greatest love was spending time with his family whom he dearly loved.
Sadly his daughter JoAnn has preceded him in death.
Those left to cherish his memories are his four surviving children, Linda Weeks and husband Jerry of Lester, Bonnie Spence and husband Terry of Beckley, Bobby Lester of Lester and Ray Lester and Goldie of Pine Branch, twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will be receiving guests from 6 to 9 on Sunday, October 21, 2012, at Melton Mortuary. Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Monday, October 22, 2012, at the Melton Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Mark Spence officiating. Burial will follow at the old home place on Joe Dirt Road on Route 54 in Lester.

FAYETTEVILLE — Robert Norman Pasley, 73, of Fayetteville, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill.
Born on May 10, 1039, at Welch, he was the son of the late Robert Stanley and Katherine M. Johnson Pasley.
Survivors include his sister, Mary Martha Bocook of Gigharbor, WA; two nephews, Robert Bocook and wife, Donna, of Bridgeport, WV, and Jeff Bocook and wife, Nicole, of Tacoma, WA; and niece, Robin Bocook of Gigharbor, WA.
In keeping with his wishes his body has been donated to the Human Gift Registry at WVU and he requested that there be no services.

Eddie Dean Persinger, 60, of Crab Orchard, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2012, in the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, following a long illness.
Born June 1, 1952, in Beckley, he was the son of the late Homer “Pee Wee” and Raphael Rice Persinger.
Dean was a coal miner retiring from Patriot Coal. He was a member of Cross Point Church of God and the UMWA. Dean loved horseback riding, golf, WVU Mountaineer and Pittsburgh Steeler football and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Dallas, Homer, Bobby, Freddie and Tommy Persinger.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Hartley Persinger; daughter, Lisa Meadows and husband Steve of Glen Morgan; son, Eddie Persinger and wife Melissa of MacArthur; grandchildren, Tristan Meadows, Brianna, Caleb, MaKayla and Logan Persinger; brothers, Jackie Persinger and wife Donna of Culpeper, VA, Charlie Persinger and wife Ann of AZ, Paul Persinger of VA; sisters, Judy O’Meara and husband Paul of Manassas, VA, Sherry Gray and husband Arnold of Beckley; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

CARROLLTON, Va. — Artie W. (Wade) Thompson, age 65, of Carrollton, VA, formerly of Stotesbury, WV, passed away October 1, 2012, at his home following a massive heart attack.
Born June 22, 1947, at Rhodell, WV, he was the son of the late Artie Wade Thompson, Sr., and Dinah Inez Toler Thompson.
He retired March 1, 2011, from Newport News Ship Builders after 43 years of service.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jess Willard, Franklin H., and James Boyd (Bubby), three sisters, Virginia (Frank) Brooks, Loretta (Mark) Ford, and Betty Lou Cook.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 36 years, Linda, four sisters, Arlene (Ronald) Burns of Alderson, WV, Arneda (Manuel) McCargish of Crab Orchard, WV, Joyce (Roy) Bolen and Carolyn Thompson both of Mt. Hope, WV, two stepsons, Scott Lawson of Fayetteville, NC, and Michael Lawson of Carrollton, VA, and three grandchildren, Casidy, Natasha and Monique Lawson.

Eddie Lynn ‘Red’ Whited
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — Eddie Lynn “Red” Whited, 81, of White Sulphur Springs passed away Saturday, October 20, 2012, at Genesis White Sulphur Springs after a short illness.
Born July 1, 1931, in Replete, WV, he was the son of the late Basil and Nelva Robinson Whited.
Red was retired from WV Division of Highways where he served as Greenbrier County road supervisor for eight years. He served on the Greenbrier County Democrat Executive Committee and one term on the White Sulphur Springs City Council. He was a member of the Beaver Lick Hunt Club and Whatcoat United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Jeffrey “Red” Whited, daughter-in-law Beverly, brother Richard, and nephew Stan Whited.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Zelma Persinger Whited; daughters Jennifer Burgess (Denny) of St. Albans, Judy Burns (Grover) of White Sulphur Springs; grandsons Ben (Meredith) Whited of Lewisburg, Whitney (Ali) Whited of Dawson, Neil Burns of Long Island, NY, John Burns of White Sulphur Springs; granddaughter, Holly Jo Burns of White Sulphur Springs; four great-grandchildren, Kaylee Hensley, Annie, Cora and Jobe Whited, and brother, Leon (Becky) Whited.
He is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 22, at McCraw Funeral Home, Lewisburg, WV, with Gerald Roberts officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, October 21, 6 to 8 p.m. at McCraw Funeral Home.
