Patricia ‘Patty’ Lynn Chandler

Patricia “Patty” Lynn Chandler, 66, of Crab Orchard, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2012.

Born July 11, 1946 in Kessler, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert and Dolores Rice Dials.

Patty was a former employee of the Raleigh County Library and the Sophia Library. She was a member of the Skelton Freewill Baptist Church. She loved her pets and exercising.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a great grandchild, Riley and by her sister, Maureen Dials.

Survivors include her husband, Clifton Chandler; sons, Bryan Leslie Chandler and wife Julie of Beckley, Clifton Chandler Jr. of MacArthur; daughter, Sherrie O’Neal and companion Gary Johnson of Beckley; grandchildren, Jennifer Reynolds, Kristen Creagar, Trevor Chandler, Justin Chandler, Alysia Chandler; great-grandchildren, Tristan, Kenidi, Jasper, Clayton.

Friends may visit with the family Monday, October 15, 2012, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley. Following her wishes she will be cremated.

Joseph David Comer

Joseph David Comer, 80, of Sophia, passed away Friday, October 12, 2012.

Born May 27, 1932 in Lansing, W.Va.,  he was the son of the late Robert and Odessa Comer.

Joe “The Pro” as many called him, loved  the game of golf that he learned from Joe Taylor at Berry Hills Country Club in Charleston, W.Va., during the 1950’s. While his employment as a Golf Pro at White Oak Country Club during the 1960’s to early 1970’s, he fathered three children, Patricia Ann (Comer) Bowyer, Robert Edward Comer, and Nancy Catherine Comer-Comuzie. Starting in the early 1970’s he began working at Twin Falls State Park where he worked for 23 years until his retirement in June 1996. One of his proudest moments at Twin Falls was when the park was voted #1 in the state for hospitality. He felt he was the ring leader of that effort.

After retiring, from Twin Falls State Park in June 1996, “The Pro” enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Rachel Bowyer and Ethan Comer. He also became very active in the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and was an Associate Member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, he was also a member of the Moose Lodge.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his son, Robert Edward Comer; the mother of his children, Lois Ann Via; and brothers and sisters, Edward, Ezella, Lucille, Jim, Sarah, Alton, and Jane.

In addition to his children and grandchildren, Joe leaves to cherish his memory his brothers, Bob, John, Kenneth, and Larry Comer; a special buddy, Denver Gunnoe; extended family and a host of friends.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley. Following the services, Joe will be laid to rest at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Friends may gather with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
