Rethel A. (Peck) Kincaid
Rethel A. (Peck) Kincaid of Sophia passed away suddenly at his home on Monday, October 8, 2012.
He was born in Ameagle, W.Va., on December 24, 1928. He was the son of the late Wollie (Peck) Kincaid and Myrada Kincaid Deel.
He is survived by the love of his life, his “sugar bear,” of 62 years, Doris Brown Kincaid. Together they shared a life of love and were blessed with four children who are left to cherish his memory, Phyllis Smith and her husband Mark of Sophia, Gina Kincaid and her companion Bill Gillenwater of Sophia, Kevin Kincaid and his wife Ginny of Shady Spring, and Danny Kincaid and wife Kim of Crab Orchard. Grandchildren, Jeremi Canaday of Charleston, WV, Jodi Canaday Green (Golden) of Goodlettsville, TN, B.R. Gillenwater II (Jheny) of Okinawa Japan, Matthew Smith (Desiree) of Tiverton, RI, Lydia Gillenwater (Joe Aldridge) of High Point, NC, Kayla Gray, Quinn Gray of Shady Spring, Ben Lilly of Shady Spring, Derek Kincaid, Geoffrey Kincaid, and Hannah Kincaid all of Crab Orchard. Eight great-grandchildren. Also, special extended family Natalie (Mickey) Thompson of Toledo, Ohio.
He is also survived by his sisters, Ona Farley of Dunbar, Nira Hamilton (Donnie) of St. Petersburg, Florida, Arita Perry (Delano) of Burnside, Kentucky, and brother Ronald Kincaid (Lucy) of Dayton, Ohio and a host of nieces and nephews.
Rethel was a member of the Cornerstone Free Will Baptist Church. He loved the Lord and loved to worship with his church family. He was proud to serve on the Board of Trustees and to serve as an Usher.
He was a former leader with the Boys Scouts of America in Amigo and Sophia. He was a Little League Coach at the Sophia Little League field in Glen White for several years. He was a former member of the Volunteer Fire Departments in Rhodell and Sophia. He was a Master Mason of the Grand Lodge of West Virginia, A.F. & A.M. of Mt. Hope. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry of Charleston. He was a member of the UMWA. He retired from Westmoreland Coal Company in 1986. After his retirement, Rethel and Doris traveled extensively and often with their grandchildren in the summers. One of their fondest memories was being able to take their children and their spouses on the trip of a lifetime on a Caribbean Cruise.
Visitation will be on Friday October 12, 2012 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Cornerstone Free Will Baptist Church in Crab Orchard. We ask that you come with us to celebrate the life of “Paw”. The Funeral Services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2012 with visitation one hour before the service at the church. Those officiating will be Rev. Roger Tolliver, Rev. R. D. Tolliver, Rev. Kelly Bowman, and Rev. Danny Kincaid. Entombment with be in the Blue Ridge Mausoleum at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
