Keith Gardner Cook
RAINELLE — Keith Gardner Cook, 89, of Rainelle, received his call home Saturday, November 30, 2013, at his home following a short illness.
Born September 17, 1924, at Quinwood, he was the last of the late Henry and Almeda Lilly Cook family.
Keith served in the United States Navy during WWII. Returning home, he worked in the coal mines and then served on the Rainelle City Police force for many years. Keith then went to work for the WV State Road as maintenance supervisor for five counties. He was a faithful member of the McRoss Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death are his wife Polly Holland Cook; his daughter Cheryl Jean Cook; his son Lloyd Cook; and 10 brothers and sisters.
Keith leaves behind several nieces and nephews, some who were very special to him, Ruth Ann Hagy and husband Dennis, Linda Smith, Wanda Comer, Curtis Keister, Jack Cook and Kevin Nutter; 2 very special friends Connie Yearego and Sharon Dunford; one stepdaughter Donna Martin; 3 stepgrandchildren Desiree, Al and Andrea Schmitt; and 2 special pastors Eddie Ray Goddard and Bennie Kenney.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 3, at Smathers Funeral Chapel, Inc., with Pastor and friend Bennie Kenney officiating. Entombment will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville.
Friends may call Monday, December 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Elizabeth Christeen Jennings
Elizabeth Christeen Jennings, 84, of Beckley, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2013.
Born February 26, 1929, in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Henry Wyman and Lola Hutchens Boblett.
Elizabeth was a retired Raleigh County School Teacher having taught at Institute Elementary for many years. She was a member of the Orchard Valley Women’s Club Degree of Honor, Senior Friends at Raleigh General Hospital and the Oak Grove Christian Church. Elizabeth loved spending time sewing, gardening and working in her flower garden.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Lowery Buford Jennings; sisters, Ruby Huffman and Mary Cathleen Scarafino; and brothers, Thomas, Willie (Ronce), Kenneth, James and Robert Boblett.
Survivors include her sister, Vera Snyder; brother, Muriel (Pete) Boblett; daughter, Frances Ilene Lavinder and her husband Forrest; sons, Lowery Wayne Jennings and his wife Judy, Ronald Howard Jennings and his wife Mary and Dennis Warren Jennings and his wife Kyoko; 9 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at Calfee Funeral Home with Pastor Kelly Gowan officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, December 2, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Calfee Cemetery in Mt. Tabor.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Ruby N. Kincaid
Ruby N. Kincaid, age 86, of Shady Spring, passed away at the Bowers Hospice House on Friday, November 29, 2013. Her daughter, Ruth, son-in-law, John, granddaughter, Jessica, and her pastor, Don Kelley, were with her during her passing.
Ruby was born on December 2nd, 1926, at Tams, WV. She was the daughter of the late Ballard Short and Frances Johnson Short. Ruby graduated from Mark Twain High School in 1945 where she was a cheerleader.
In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Johnnie L. Kincaid; brothers, Lawrence (Jack) Short, James (Buck) Short, William (Bill) Short; and a twin sister, Ruby Mackabee. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Ruby was a member of the Open Door Church of Shady Spring and the order of the Eastern Star Chapter 136 of Coal City. Ruby worked for the Slab Fork Coal Company Store where she met her husband, Johnnie, and they were married until his death in 1992. She also retired from Montgomery Ward after 35 years of service. Ruby loved to travel with her friends, spending quality time with family, listening to Christian music, working word search puzzles and enjoyed visiting with her family and friends at family reunions.
She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Link and husband, John, of Shady Spring, and her granddaughter, Jessica Crook and husband, Adam, of Ghent; sisters-in-law, Gerri Short and Cora Short; nephews, James (Jim) Short and wife, Kim, and Hershell Smith and wife, Diana; niece, Susan Eagleson and husband, Scott; special friend, Polly Rollyson; and caregivers included Ellen Buckland, Darfane Ramsey, and Naomi Williams.
Services to celebrate the life of Ruby N. Kincaid will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Pastor Don Kelley officiating. Following the services Ruby will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Adam Crook, Brian Smith, Steven Smith, Rocky Mills, Gary Williams, and Gary Jones will be serving as pallbearers.
Friends may gather with the family Monday, December 2, 2013, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

ALVON — Charles Summer Ramsey, 74, of Alvon, died Sunday morning, Dec. 1, 2013.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Wild Meadow Baptist Church, Rt. 92, White Sulphur Springs, with the Rev. Lowell O’Dell officiating. Interment will follow at Little Creek Cemetery, Little Creek. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wild Meadow Baptist Church building fund.

Arthur Lee ‘Jug’ Rice
LINDSIDE — Arthur Lee “Jug” Rice, age 86, of Lindside and having resided with his daughter for the past two years at Draper, VA, died Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Carilion New River Medical Center, Radford, VA.
Born July 13, 1927, at Peterstown, WV, he was the son of the late Arthur M. and Annie M. Maxey Rice.
Arthur was a farmer, a retired employee of the Lynchburg Foundry, and a minister.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Beulah Christian Rice; a daughter, Estella Juanita Breeden; one sister, Sarah Thornton; one brother Edgar M. “John” Rice.
Survivors include his daughter, Bonnie Rice Dean and husband David of Draper, VA; one son, Robert L. Rice of Radford, VA; one sister, Eva Brown of Gap Mills, WV. Twelve grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, with Pastor James Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. View Cemetery at Wikel, WV. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, December 2, 2013, at the funeral home.
