Mildred Fullen Allen

PICKAWAY — Mildred Fullen Allen, 96, of Pickaway, passed away Sunday morning, March 3, 2013.

Judy Kay Erskine

LEWISBURG — Judy Kay Erskine, 67, of Lewisburg, passed away Saturday evening, March 2, 2013.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union with the Rev. Gene Fullen and the Rev. Susan Erskine officiating. Burial will follow at the Bethel Cemetery on Hokes Mill Road at Organ Cave. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Groves Funeral Home in Union is in charge of arrangements.



Schuyler Bruce ‘Sky’ Hickman

Schuyler Bruce “Sky” Hickman departed this life on February 28, 2013, in Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV, following a short illness.

Born October 24, 1950, in Uniontown, PA, he was the only son of the late Paul and Virginia Harris Hickman. When he was 12 years old, his mother relocated to Washington, DC, where he graduated from Anacostia High School in Washington, DC, in 1968.

He met Jacqueline C. Wilkerson and they were married on May 5, 1971.

Sky’s most beloved hobby was fishing.

In addition to his parents, Sky was preceded in death by his son, Schuyler B. Hickman, II.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of forty-one years, Jacqueline C. Hickman; sons, Keith A. (Lisa) Hickman and Brandon C. (Kristin) Hickman; daughter, Caryn A. Hickman, grandson, Myles D. Hickman, goddaughter, Michelle Lee; mother-in-law, four sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at First Baptist Church, Harlem Heights, WV, with the Revs. Paul S. Baker and Shannon Robinson officiating.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Jimmy V Foundation for cancer research at www.jimmyv.org.

John Edward ‘Ed’ Holt

OAK HILL — John Edward “Ed” Holt, age 64, of Oak Hill, WV, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley.

Born January 4, 1949, in Oak Hill, WV, he was the son of the late John Earl Holt and the late Bonnie Warden Holt Navicki.

Ed was a member of Oak Hill Masonic Lodge #120 AF&AM and had recently retired from Alpha Natural Resources where he ended his 45 years of employment as a purchaser in the coal industry.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 46 years, Ruth Ann Tucker Holt of Oak Hill. He is survived by his beloved daughters, Tara Holt of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Kim Kupec and her husband Justin of Morgantown, WV; three cherished grandchildren, Emma, Nate and Ella Kupec; loving sister, Rita Kay Jefferies and brother Mike Navicki. Also surviving are sister and brothers-in-law, Patty and Larry Nutter, Jack and Cami Suzza, Donna and Kenny Thomas and Saundra Tucker; and also by his mother-in-law, Ruth Suzza.

The family will respectfully honor Ed’s request for no memorial service. We however will have a visitation on Monday, March 4, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, WV.

We would like to thank his family, friends and co-workers for their love and support.

Paul Douglas ‘Doug’ Longanacre II

SINKS GROVE — Paul Douglas (Doug) Longanacre, II, 37, passed away Friday, March 1, 2013, near Rupert.

Born October 27, 1975, in Fairlea and was the son of Paul Douglas and Linda Lee Boone Longanacre of Sinks Grove.

Doug was a lifelong resident of Sinks Grove, member of the Sinks Grove Baptist Church, was a farmer and worked for the Department of Highways in Monroe County.

Survivors include his parents, Paul and Linda Longanacre of Sinks Grove, wife, Barbara Long Longanacre of Sinks Grove, 3 children, Elizabeth (Libby), Hope and Douglas Perry Longanacre all at home, one sister, Cindy Longanacre Bryant and husband, David, of Covington, Virginia, nephew, Davey Bryant of Covington, Virginia, niece, Courtney Bryant of Bluefield, Virginia, and several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

Service will be 1 p.m. Monday, March 4, 2013, at the Longanacre Funeral Home Chapel, Fairlea, with Rev. Mark Shafer officiating. Burial to follow in the Longanacre Family Cemetery, Sinks Grove.

Friends and family may call from 11 a.m. till time of the funeral on Monday at the Longanacre Funeral Home, Fairlea, WV.

Rosa JuAnn Campbell McKinney

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Rosa JuAnn Campbell McKinney, 64, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., died Sunday, March 3, 2013.

Roselawn Funeral Home & Cemetery, a Dignity Memorial provider, is in charge of arrangements.



Bobby Miller

On Thursday, Feb. 28th, 2013, Bobby Miller of McBerry Street, Beckley, passed away at the Bowers Hospice House. He was in his 85th year.

The first of two children, Bobby Gene Miller was born on January 26th, 1928, at Sprague. His parents were the late Mayo and Grethel Pack Miller.

Bobby spent his childhood at Sprague. At the age of 17, he entered the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of WWII. He has been a resident of McBerry Street the past 40 years. Bobby worked for the New River Coal Company. He retired as superintendent of mines, with 47 years of service in the mining industry. Bobby loved to golf. He had formerly worked at the Briar Patch and Glade Springs Golf Courses and also played at Beaver Creek. He was of the Baptist faith.

Bobby was married to the former Imogene Walker. To this union were born two daughters, Barbara Ann and Deborah Leslie. Barbara died on April 24th, 1972. Debbie was married to Dewayne Shawver, who has passed away. She is now married to Randy Pizzino and they make their home at Shady Spring. Bobby and Imogene were blessed with two grandchildren, Michelle Meadows and her husband, Bill, of Shady Spring and Bobby Shawver and his wife, Robin, of Stanaford. There are six great-grandchildren, Sable, Marshall, Bobby, Kelsey, Mattie and Emily. Bobby is also survived by his only sister, Nancy Meadows, and her son, Dean, of Daniels.

On Tuesday, March 5th, at 3 p.m. there will be a “Service of Remembrance” at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Roy Owens will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the service hour. Bobby will be laid to rest in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity.
