Elizabeth J. Akers
Elizabeth “Josie” Josephine Whitt Akers, 71, of Stephenson, went to her resting place on Saturday, May 18, 2013, in a Charleston hospital following a long illness.
Born November 4, 1941, in Wytheville, Va., she was the daughter of the late William Emmett Akers and Mamie Franklin (Gravley) Shrewsbury.
Josie was a homemaker and had been a resident of Stephenson for the past four years coming from North Carolina.
In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by five brothers, Earl, Bob, Ed, Pete, and Jack; two sisters, Bertha Davis and Carrie Catherine Akers.
Those left to cherish her memory include her brother, Kelly Akers of Beckley; a nephew and caregiver, Roger Davis of Stephenson; a very special friend and caregiver, Regina Lester of Amigo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Damon Davis officiating and a Eulogy by Regina Lester.
Friends may call one hour prior to services Thursday at the funeral home.

UNION — Shelia Holcomb Austin, 66, of Union, passed away Monday, May 20, 2013.
Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2013, at the Groves Funeral Home in Union, with the Rev. Jimmy Allen officiating.
Friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2013.
At Shelia’s request her body will be cremated.
