Brenda Sue Bailey

Brenda Sue Bailey, 55, of Ewart Ave., Beckley, died Friday, May 10th, 2013.

Funeral services will be Thursday, May 16th at 1 p.m. at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. The family will receive friends from noon until the service hour.

Garry Lee Barton

OAK HILL — Garry Lee Barton, 65, of Oak Hill, died on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at his home.

Born February 19, 1948, at Oak Hill, he was the son of the late Arnold Lee and Anna Lea Amick Barton.

He was retired from Kroger where he worked as a stock clerk.

Garry was a graduate of Collins High School in Oak Hill. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Survivors include a sister, Melinda Angius of Oak Hill; nephew, Derek Angius of Sand Branch; two great nephews, Jace and Landon Angius and a great niece, Tayla Angius, all of Sand Branch

Funeral services will be on Thursday, May 16, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill, with Rev. Ralph Shupe officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, with military graveside rites by Oak Hill VFW Post No. 3110, Oak Hill.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Matt Bowyer, Greg DeHart, Patrick Moore, Tim Belcher, Warren Shrewsbury and Harold McDaniel will serve as pallbearers.

Michael Allen Behler

SCARBRO — Michael Allen Behler, 57, of Scarbro, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2013, at Plateau Medical Center.

Born August 5, 1955, at Alameda Calif., the son of the late Phillip Behler and Audrey (Kehler) Behler.

Mike proudly served his country in the United States Navy on the USS Independence.

Mike graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor degree in micro-biology. For several years, he worked with the United States Department of Agriculture in Beltsville, MD, as a micro-biologist.

Mike is survived by his partner of 23 years David Athen Bryant of Scarbro; brothers Anthony Behler of Fayetteville, Christopher Behler of Tamaqaua, Pa.; sisters Kellee Klintop and husband Jeff of Allrightsville, Pa., Lisa Stabler and husband Fred of Newringgold, Pa.; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

His remains rest at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel where the funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Lum Toney officiating and where the family will receive friends from noon until time of service.

Burial will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill.

LOOKOUT — Scott Allen Carmichael, 43, of Lookout, passed away Monday, May 13, 2013.

Doy Hanson Carpenter

Doy Hanson Carpenter, 88, a resident of Beckley and Upper Glade, W.Va.,  passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2013, at his home in Beckley.

He was born January 24, 1925, at Centralia, Braxton County, W.Va., the son of the late Barrick Emmitt Carpenter and Gussie Dove McCourt Carpenter.

For 38 years he worked as an electrician in the coal-mining industry in central WV. After his retirement from the position, he operated a heavy -equipment construction business. He also bought, refurbished, and sold several houses in W.Va. and N.C., Perhaps the work which he most enjoyed was that of restoring automobiles, especially vintage British sports cars, several of which have appeared in various shows and parades.

He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and the Moose Club. He attended Family Worship Center of Beckley and Trinity United Methodist Church of Cowen.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, F. Lucille Hamlinton Carpenter of Beckley, his children; Sharon L. (Larry) Williams, Susan D. Carpenter, both of Beckley, and his son D. Ralph (Mary Anne) Carpenter of Cowen, Patricia Ann ( Roger) Green of Summersville. He is also survived by his grandchildren:  Jason Williams of Summersville, Elizabeth Coffman of Summersville, Nikki Green of Summersville Kristen Carpenter of Houma, LA., and Jessica Hay of Sommerset, Pa., and his great-grandchildren; James Colton Lowery of Beckley, Isaac Ray White of Summersville, and Olivia Grace Hay of Sommerset, Pa.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters Lola Mae Kucish and Dorothy Carpenter, and his beloved grandson James Britton Lowery II.

All of those left behind cherish his memory. He was always a kind, sincere man who regardless of how busy he may have been with his various tasks, always had time for his family and friends. He never met a stranger and was always the first to offer help. He would give you the coat off his back, money from his pocket or a ride home

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 17, 2013, at Adams-Reed Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. James “ Oz “ Gray officiating. Burial will follow in West Virginia Memorial Gardens, Calvin. Friends will be received 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Adams-Reed Funeral Home, Cowen.

BIG CREEK — Lacy C. Humphries, 85, of Big Creek, passed away Monday, May 13, 2013,  at the Summers Nursing and Rehab Center, following a long illness.

Gregory Giles Kees

OAK HILL — Gregory Giles Kees, 60, of Oak Hill, died on Monday, May 13, 2013, at CAMC - Memorial Division in Charleston, W.Va.

Born December 10, 1952, at Charleston, he was the son of Delmer Giles Kees of Shady Spring, and the late Jessie Katherine Peal Kees.

Greg was a Mechanical Pipe Fitter for DuPont. A U.S. Navy veteran, he served during Vietnam. To say he was an avid fisherman would be an understatement.            

Survivors include his wife, Della Mae Smith Johnson; two daughters, Jessie Treadway and husband, Marshall of Oak Hill and Lorna Lewis and husband, Danny of Walkertown, N.C.; and a brother, Mark Kees and wife, Sharon of St. Augustine, Fla.

He is also survived by two grandchildren, Aaron Lewis and Kristal Lewis and a great granddaughter, Alyssa Stewart.

In keeping with his wishes Mr. Kees was cremated. Family and friends are invited to a time of remembrance which will be held at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill on Thursday, May 16, from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the March of Dimes — WV Chapter, 3508 Staunton Avenue SE — 2nd Floor, Charleston WV 25304.

Donnie Louise Mann

Donnie Louise Mann, age 76, of Shady Spring, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2013, at the Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley.

Mrs. Mann was born on June 14, 1936, at Flat Top, she was the daughter of the late Corgel Lilly and Bertha Lilly.

Mrs. Mann was a homemaker, and had made her home in Shady Spring for the past 13 years, having moved from Michigan.  

She was preceded in death by her husband,  William “Sonny” Mann,  a son Roger Mann, a brother Leon Lilly, and a sister Bonnie Farlow.

Survivors include her children: Mitchell Mann of Waterford, Mich., Ronnie Mann of Creamery, and Gerald Mann and his wife Sandra of Shady Spring; a grandson Kevin Mann and his wife Wanda of Shady Spring, other grandchildren include Richard Adams, Lauren Adams, Joseph Fontilla, Christopher Mann, Andrew Mann, Bradley Mann, and Timothy Mann; two great grandchildren, Elizabeth Mann and Lucas Mann; a brother, Benjamin Lilly of Pontiac, Mich., and a sister, Dotsie Hufford of Ona, W.Va.

Funeral Services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel on Thursday, May 16, 2013, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Terry Utterback officiating. Burial will follow at the Camp Ground Cemetery at Creamery.

Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. until service time on Thursday.

Pallbearers will be family members.

A funeral liturgy will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, with Monsignor Samuel Sacus officiating. A rite of committal will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

Rodney Shrewsbury, 64, of Glen Morgan, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Bowers Hospice House.
