Emory Lorel Newcomb

OAK HILL — Emory Lorel Newcomb, 94, of Oak Hill, WV, died on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Heartland of Beckley in Beckley, WV.

Born November 21, 1918, at Summers County, WV, he was the son of the late James and Ura Martin Newcomb.

He was a retired Master Mechanic.

Mr. Newcomb was a member of the Scarbro Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army during Word War II.

His wife, Catherine Davis Newcomb, preceded him in death.

Survivors include one son, James David Newcomb of Aurora, CO; brother, Delbert Newcomb of Beckley; and a sister, Neve Hare of Summers County.

Mr. Newcomb was cremated. His cremains will be interred at Cunningham Memorial Park in Saint Albans. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Cathern Smith Orndorff

MOUNT NEBO — Cathern Smith Orndorff, 78, of Mount Nebo, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Hilltop Center, Hilltop, following a long illness.

Born Jan. 2, 1935, at Big Clear Creek Mtn., she was the daughter of the late Earl Cecil and Elsie Pearl Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Orndorff, Jr., on May 2, 2010, and was also preceded in death by a son, Roger Earl Orndorff.

Survivors include one son, Rodney Lowell Orndorff and wife, Nora, of Mount Nebo; six (6) grandchildren, Rodney Orndorff, Jr., Ryan B. Orndorff, Marlee Orndorff, Megan Wallace, Natalie and Richard Reichard, and Natasha Orndorff; and eight (8) great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel, Rainelle, with Rev. Verlin Butcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Gilgal Church Cemetery, Mount Nebo.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at the funeral chapel prior to the funeral.


Bessie ‘Mae’ McKinney Patrick

PAGE — Bessie “Mae” McKinney Patrick, 85, of Page, WV, died on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at her home.

Born October 9, 1927, at Page, WV, she was the daughter of the late Carnel Luke and Daisy Graham McKinney.

She was a homemaker.

Her husband, Elgie Patrick, a daughter, Diane Haynie, and a brother, Edward McKinney, preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons, Clarence R. Patrick of Newport News, VA, and James E. Patrick of Page; three daughters, Shirley M. Arbaugh of Oak Hill, Gloria O. Patrick of Page and Rachel D. Johnston of Page; one brother, Thomas McKinney of Fayetteville; one sister, Goldie Phipps of West Jefferson, NC; twelve grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and a host of nephews and nieces.

Funeral services were on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill, with Rev. Wayne Johnston officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
