BECKLEY — Charles Eugene Adkins

HERNSHAW — Charles Eugene Adkins, 46, of Hernshaw, formerly of Fanrock, W.Va., passed away on Friday, December 3, 2010, at his home.

He was born March 5, 1964 in Welch, W.Va., a son of Artimus “Tink” Adkins and Glenna Evelyn Bellew Adkins.

He was a 1982 graduate of Baileysville High School, a lab manager for Dow Chemicals and a former lab manager at Marfork Coal Company.

His grandparents Virgil and Gladys Adkins of Fanrock, preceded him in death.

Survivors include a son Christopher Kyle Adkins of Indian Creek, W.Va.; his parents Artimus “Tink” and Glenna Evelyn Bellew Adkins of Fanrock; two sisters Regina McNew and husband Melvin of Westfield, N.C. and Tracey Walters and husband Willie of Fanrock; his grandmother Vivian Morgan of New Richmond, W.Va.; a niece Emily Addair; two nephews Timothy and Anthony McNew; and a host of other loving family and friends.

There will be no visitation.

Graveside services will be held at noon on Friday December 10, 2010, at the Trace Fork Cemetery, Fanrock, with Pastor Ernest Francis officiating. Charles will be laid to rest in the Trace Fork Cemetery, Fanrock.

Howard L. Baldwin Jr.

HARVEY — Mr. Howard L. Baldwin Jr., 76, of Harvey died Monday, December 6, 2010 in the VA Medical Center, Beckley.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, December 10, 2010, at the Ritchie & Johnson Funeral Parlor Chapel, 748 So. Fayette St., Beckley with Rev. Abner Wright officiating.

Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

Friends may call thirty minutes prior to the service at the funeral parlor.

PIPESTEM — Violet Vest Basham, 87 of Pipestem, died Wednesday, December 8, 2010, in Summers Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Hilldale.

Ronald K. Bayless Sr.

ST. ALBANS — Ronald K. Bayless Sr., 78, a resident of Golden Living Center Riverside, formerly of Logan, passed away Monday, December 6, 2010.

Mr. Bayless will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill, W.Va. Private services will be held by the family.

CRAIGSVILLE — Norma Jean Cogar, 74, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2010.

Hilda Mae Tenney Fontana

Hilda  Mae Tenney Fontana, 80, of  Mount Hope, died on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.

Born April 7, 1930 at  Widen, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James and Vergie Canfield Tenney.

She was a retired security guard for Stone and Thomas.

A brother, Olan Tenney and sister, June Frame preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Fontana; four sons, Roger Tenney of Herold, Michael Stedham of Summersville, Mark Fontana of Mt. Nebo and Thomas Dale Fontana of Sheffield Lake, Ohio; one step-daughter, Jacqueline Moerman of Bradenton, Fla.; two sisters, Carolyn Kitzmiller of Summersville and Patty Tenney Dodrill of Birch River, eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Services will be on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Homein Mount Hope. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

MT. HOPE — Mr. Dortornieous A. Gray, 33, of 215 No. Fayette Ave., Mt. Hope, died Sunday, December 5, 2010.

Virgo Stanley Neil

SUMMERSVILLE — Virgo Stanley Neil, 95 years of age of Summersville, died Monday,  December 6, 2010, in the Summersville Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 10, 2010, at 1 p.m. in the Waters Funeral Chapel at Summersville with Rev. Sam Gray officiating. Burial will follow in the Brown Cemetery at Poe.

Friends may call at the funeral chapel one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Annie Mae Scott

Mrs. Annie Mae Scott, 91, of 206 Tolbert Street, Beckley, died Monday, December 6, 2010 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV after a long illness.

Born September 30, 1919 in Martinsville, Virginia she was the daughter of the late John Early Hairston and Harriett Wade Hairston Toliaferro.

Mrs. Scott was a member of Heart of God Ministries, a homemaker, nurse aide, and worked for Derald Rollyson, Inc.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Scott; step-father, John J. Toliaferro; sister, Lucille McCoy and brother, Nathaniel Hairston.

Those left to cherish precious memories are her children: James E.(Cheryl) Scott of New Orleans, LA, Susie Mae Dalton and Cyrillia Lucille Anderson, both of Cincinnati, OH; Wennetta Marie (Kermit) Rhodes of Beckley, WV, James (Valerie) Scott III of Brooklyn,NY, Chlore (Michael) Darden of Dayton, OH, Monica Scott of Baltimore, MD, Tiffany Scott of New Orleans, LA, maw maw guardians, Eric and Jason Rhodes, grandchildren,  Michael Jr., James Ryan, Christopher, Kaila, Micaiah, and Jennifer; brother, Roy Hairston of Beckley; sister-in-law, Lee Esther Hairston of Beckley, WV; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 3:00 pm, Friday, December 10, 2010 at Heart of God Ministries, 1703 S. Kanawha Street, Beckley, WV with Bishop Fred T. Simms officiating.

Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Prosperity.

PROVIDENCE FORGE, Va. — Edmond R. Starcher, 63, of Providence Forge, passed away, December 7, 2010.

He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Starcher; sister, Peggy Starcher, Clancy; brothers, Wilbert Ray Starcher and John Starcher.

Edmond is survived by his wife, Connie Sue Starcher; children, Joanna Lynn Starcher Davis (Kirk), John Douglas Starcher, Phillip Clay Hoffer, Curtis Ralph Starcher, all from Providence Forge and Marie Starcher, Radwanski (Eddie), Kevin Scott Starcher, from Cleveland, Ohio; mother, Dorothy Starcher, from West Virginia; mother-in-law, Lorena Brown, from Providence Forge; brothers, Charles Starcher (Brenda) of Providence Forge, Steve Starcher (Shirley) of Florida; sisters, Nelly Hodges of South Carolina, Dora Lee Trenholme (Lee) of California, Ruth White and Ida Woodring of West Virginia, very dear “Sister” Brenda K. Starcher of West Virginia; grandchildren, Misty, Ricky, Lacy, Matthew, Sheridan, Dakota, Rachel, Jaysun, Cassidy, Evan; great-grandchildren, Jaden, Haley and Lily.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, December 12, at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Rainelle, W.Va., with a visitation one hour before the service.

Patricia Ann “Nanny Pat”  Ferris Williams, 77, of  Weirwood Hill, Pax, W.Va., died on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at her home.

Services will be on Saturday, December 11, 2010, at 1 p.m. at the Pax Worship Center in Pax with Rev. Dwayne Williams officiating. Burial will be at Pax Community Cemetery in  Pax.
