Opal McCoy Brooks

PINEVILLE — Opal McCoy Brooks, 71, of Pineville, passed away, Tuesday, April 30, 2013, following a long illness.

Born December 6, 1941, at Panther, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Viola Belle “Bo” Cline McCoy.

Opal was a member of the Friendship Old Regular Baptist Church at Saulsville. She was a retired bus driver for the Wyoming County Schools.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Buddy” Brooks and an infant brother, Jame Ray.

Survivors include two sons, John Dwayne Brooks of Pineville and Charles Glen Brooks and his wife, Sharon of Keyrock; three daughters, Regina Church and her husband, Kenneth of Saulsville, Janet Halsey and her husband, Bobby of Keyrock and Christina Bailey and her husband, Robert of Keyrock; four brothers, Roy McCoy of Lynco, Wayne McCoy and his wife, Jenny of Pineville, John McCoy and his wife, Wilma of Keyrock and Russell McCoy and his wife, Pam of Keyrock; three sisters, June Goode of Pineville, Ann Goode and her husband, Lindell of Bearhole and Nancy Workman and her husband, Ward of Matheny; seven grandchildren: Justin and Katrina Brooks: Katelyn Ellis and Andrew Halsey: Leah and Seth Bailey and Shawn Church, and one great-grandchild, Teagan Ellis.

A celebration of Opal’s life will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 5, 2013 in the Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, with Elder Russell McCoy and Elder Bryce Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday, May 4, 2013, at the funeral home.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Ralph Fielden Canterbury

SINKS GROVE — Ralph Fielden Canterbury, 95, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2013, at the Springfield Center, Lindside, after long illness.

Born Jan. 10, 1918, at Sinks Grove, he was the son of the late Okey A. and Mable Lemons Canterbury.

He was a lifelong resident of Sinks Grove, member of the Sinks Grove Baptist Church, was a self employed lime and fertilizer distributor and farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Pauline Lemons Canterbury; sisters, Hazel Miller and Ruth Wald; brothers, Harry Canterbury and Marshall Canterbury and half brothers, Okey Canterbury Jr. and Jack Canterbury.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Leach Canterbury of Sinks Grove; daughter, Carol Spence and husband, Lee of Sinks Grove; sons, Bob Canterbury and wife, Carolyn of Sinks Grove and Bill Canterbury and wife, Carolyn of Sinks Grove; step children, JoAnn Boggs and husband, Donnie, of Lewisburg; brother, Marlin Lee Canterbury and wife, June of Maui, Hawaii; sister-in-law, Frances Canterbury of Roanoke, Va., Mutsuko Canterbury of Chula Vista, Calif. and Mary Canterbury of Franklin, Tenn. and brother-in-law, Eugene Leach and wife, Yvonne of Shady Spring; grandchildren, Doug Canterbury and wife, Meredith of Lewisburg, Tina Tuckwiller and husband, Gary of Alta, Mike Canterbury and wife, Chassie of Sinks Grove, Cindi Napier and husband, Kevin of White Sulphur Springs, Paula Hines and husband, Michael of Lindside, Lori Miller and husband, Steve of Sinks Grove; great-grandchildren, Tyler Canterbury, Allie Canterbury, Madison Miller, Brett Napier, Emily Canterbury, Adyson Hines, Megan Canterbury, Kayden Hines, Seth Napier and Kyndall Canterbury; step grandchildren, Courtney Barkley, Abbie Barkley, Ben Barkley and Kayla Hughes.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, at the Sinks Grove Baptist Church, Sinks Grove, with Pastor Mike Wilson and the Rev. Emory Hanna officiating. Burial will follow in the Sinks Grove Cemetery.

Friends and family may call 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, at the Longanacre Funeral Home, Fairlea, and at the church one hour before the service on Saturday, May 4, 2013.
