Rosie Mary Huggins Bennett

RONCEVERTE — Rosie Mary Huggins Bennett, 79, of Ronceverte, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013.

Nellie May Canterbury

Nellie May Canterbury, 82, of the Peachtree section of Naoma, WV, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013, at her home after a long illness with her loving family by her side.

She was born April 2, 1930, at Pine Knob, WV, a daughter of the late Glen and Orpha Kuhn Dickens.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Glen Canterbury, who passed away June 25, 2012; two sisters, Edith Bragg and Mary Underwood Hornsby; three brothers, Elmer Dickens, Bruce Dickens and Junior Dickens.

She is survived by three daughters, Jenny Collins and husband, Tommy, of Rock Creek, Karen Sue McManama and husband, Darryl, of Fredricksburg, VA, and Carol Gregory of OH; two sons, David Canterbury and wife, Charlotte, of Naoma, and Bob Bowers and wife, Janet, of OH; eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon, March 19, 2013, at 1 o’clock in the Naoma Freewill Baptist Church, Naoma, WV, with Pastor Benny Turner. Interment will be in Adkins Cemetery, Naoma, WV.

Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.

Armstrong Funeral Home is serving the family.



Charles ‘Peanut’ Duncan

RHODELL — Charles “Peanut” Duncan, 62, of Rhodell, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday morning, March 14, 2013, at Heartland Nursing Home following a long illness.

He was born July 26, 1950, in Lillybrook, WV, to the late Claymon Duncan and Lessie Thomas Duncan.

A graduate of Stoco High School, Charles was a longtime coal miner who later worked for the Kroger Company.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James E. Cross; one sister, Betty Duncan; and three brothers, Sherman Thomas, Kenneth Duncan, and Michael Duncan.

Left to cherish his memory are the love of his life, his wife Gloria Duncan; two daughters, Belinda K. Cross of Charleston, and Pamela Nichols of Beckley; one son, Charles Duncan, Jr., of Ohio; eleven grandchildren, including Jermaine Saunders, Justin L. Saunders, Anthony Braxton, Amanda and Bryan Cross, all of Beckley, and Kasandra (Zach) Daniels of Coal City; and eleven great-grandchildren.

He is survived also by three brothers, Claymon (Debby) Duncan, Jr., of Colorado, James Duncan and Danny (Bridgette) Duncan, of Beckley; two sisters, Carolyn (Marion Sr.) Austin, and Diane (William) Ray, both of Beckley; 4 sisters-in-law, Kristina Duncan of Beckley, Marcella (Phillip) Hairston of Rhodell, Geraleine Simms of New Jersey and Imogen Cross of New Jersey; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be held Tuesday, March 19, 2013, 1 p.m., at Church of God MPG of Truth, 132 Old Turnpike Road in Harper Heights. Pastor Ruby Berry will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services in the church.

Harold Lloyd Dunford

PETERSTOWN — Harold Lloyd Dunford , 72, of Peterstown, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013. 

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, Peterstown, with Pete Dunford officiating. Burial will follow in the Peterstown Cemetery, Giles County, Va. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 18, at the funeral home.

Geraldine Marie Meadows-Gray

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. — Geraldine Marie Meadows-Gray, age 62, of Wesley Chapel, Florida, formerly of Mount Hope, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at her residence following an extended illness.

Born June 2, 1951, in Beckley, WV, to Minta Plumley of Mabscott and the late Dewey Hicks.

In addition to her father she was preceded in death by her husband Gary Evan Meadows.

Those surviving include her sons, Stephen Meadows (Lorna) of Beckley, and Thomas Meadows of North Carolina; daughter, Angela Meadows (Geovani Fornaris) of Wesley Chapel, FL; 3 brothers and 1 sister also survive her along with 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Graveside rites and entombment will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum in Beckley with Pastor Junior Plumley officiating.

There will be no prior public visitation.

Loretta Maye (Hutsenpiller) McCall

RAINELLE — Loretta Maye (Hutsenpiller) McCall, 77, of Rainelle, passed away early Sunday morning, March 17, 2013, at her home, following a long illness.

Born November 19, 1935, at Dawson, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Ollie Ann McClung Hutsenpiller.

Loretta had worked as the bookkeeper for Aides Discount Stores, Inc., and was a member of Maude Chapel United Methodist of Dawson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Richard “Dink” McCall, in 1967; three sisters, Lena Theresa Hutsenpiller, Leta Ollie Petrovic, and Mary Louise Milem; one brother, Anthony Lloyd Hutsenpiller.

Survivors include one daughter: Sheryl Ann Morgan and husband Stan of Beckley, WV; one son: James R. (Rick) McCall, Jr., and wife Deborah of Rainelle, WV; one sister: Betty Lou Souder of Lincoln Park, MI; three brothers: John Lafon Hutsenpiller of Elkview, WV, Larry Lee Hutsenpiller of Dunbar, WV, Bobby LaRoy Hutsenpiller of Dawson (who was also her caregiver for the past 3 months); three grandchildren: Lucretia Marie Bennett, Christopher Lee Morgan, and Heather Nicole King; her “grand-dog” and constant companion, Darby; special niece, Darlene Milem, who provided relief to the family in those needed times.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, with Pastor Chad Rodes officiating. Burial will follow at Rainelle Cemetery, beside her husband. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

David K. McMasters

David K. McMasters, age 47, of Lester, beloved husband and father, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at his home following complications of a long illness.

Born June 30, 1965, in Fort Lauderdale, FL, the son of David McMasters and his wife Diane of Florida and his late mother Barbara S. Fausher.

In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Joseph and Francis Verhoveen; paternal grandparents, Arthur and Susanna McMasters; uncles, Hilliard Bailey and Robert Winkler; and his father-in-law, Ralph E. Mullins.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Regina L. McMasters; son, Daniel McMasters; aunts, Alicia Bailey and Francis Winkler; mother-in-law, Donna L. Mullins; brother-in-law, Edward L. Mullins and wife Donna; niece, Ashley Thomas; nephew, Patrick L. Mullins; and a host of cousins and friends from all walks of life.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Chapel in Beckley. Interment will follow at Bryson Cemetery at Maple Meadows.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

PINEVILLE — Pearl Brooks Phillips, 87, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, at Rock Castle Baptist Church, with the Revs. Sam Francis and Evan Arkell officiating. Burial will follow at Phillips Family Cemetery, Windom Road. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, at Calfee Funeral Service, Pineville.
