Ruth Edna Acord

SWISS — Ruth Edna Acord, 86, of Swiss, died Monday, July 14, 2014.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, July 18, 2014 at 1 p.m. in the Waters Funeral Chapel at Summersville. Burial will follow in the Zoar Cemetery at Keslers Cross Lanes.

Friends may call at the funeral chapel one hour prior to the service on Friday.



Roy Ronald Adkins

Roy Ronald Adkins, age 68, of Piney View, passed on Monday, July 14, 2014, at the Charleston Area Medical Center General Division.

Cecil ‘Buddy’ Dunford

BELMONT, N.C. — Cecil “Buddy” Dunford, age 72, of Belmont, passed away July 13, 2014 at his residence.

A visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday, July 18th at Smathers Funeral Home in Rainelle, W.Va., with a service to celebrate his life to follow in the chapel at 3 p.m. A visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 19th at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home, 4601 Freedom Dr., Charlotte, N.C.

Mr. Dunford was born November 14, 1941 in Burnwell, W.Va., son of the late Earl Hansford and Helen Cunningham Dunford.

He was of the Catholic faith and a graduate of Sherman High School, served in the US Navy and U.S. Marines as a Corpsman during the Vietnam War, was a graduate of West Virginia University School of Pharmacy and received two additional Doctorate Degrees of Pharmacy, owned Dunford Rexall Drugs in Rainelle, during the 70’s and 80’s and had been associated with Rite Aid Pharmacy, Revco Drug, Eckerd Drug and Fallston Pharmacy.

He was a member of American Legion 40 and 8 and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Surviving are his wife, Jacqueline Dunford; children, Cynthia Lewis and husband, John of Sherwood, Ark., Pamela Dunford of Sissonville, W.Va., Steven Dunford and wife, Paula of Anjean, W.Va., Daniel Skeens and wife, Yvonne of Jacksonville, N.C. and Bethanie Skeens of Charlotte, seven grandchildren, sisters, Karol Dunford of Rainelle, W.Va., Sheila O’Neal of Winifrede, W.Va., and Yvonne Rodriguez of Bradley, W.Va., and a brother, Greg Dunford of Boulder Creek, Calif. and three Furbabies.

Memorials may be made to American Legion Post #144, Belmont, N.C.

Cecil was larger than life and his big heart and great sense of humor will be forever cherished.
