Nessel ‘Jones’ Aleshire

SETH — Nessel “Jones” Aleshire of Seth, passed away June 26, 2014.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, in the Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, with the Rev. Jr. Perdue and the Rev. Troy Howerton and singer the Rev. Jr. Perdue. Interment is in Pineview Cemetery, Orgas. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mary Barber

Mary Barber, 85, of Whitby died Friday, June 27, 2014.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, at St. Paul Baptist Temple, 129 Rice St., Beckley, with the Rev. Walter Leach, the Rev. Calvin Moore Jr. and Bishop Fred T. Simms officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.

Donald Ray ‘The Barber’ Crookshanks

RAINELLE — “The Meadow Bridge barber has passed away.” Donald Ray “The Barber” Crookshanks, 77, of Rainelle passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Roanoke, VA.

Born on September 25, 1936, he was the son of the late Marvin Conrod and Faye Love Tincher Crookshanks.

Donald was a 1955 graduate of Rainelle High School. He hunted and fished until the following fall and he enrolled in Molar Barber & Cosmetologist College. In 1956 he met the love of his life, Olive Boggess. They were married in 1957. He graduated from college with honors designating him a flat top specialist; The Greenbrier Hotel chose him as their top recruit. He worked for Alva Meadows until he bought his own shop in 1959. At night Donald helped his wife Olive clean the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Rainelle.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Winona Birchfield, in Jan. 2014.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years Olive Leah Boggess Crookshanks of Rainelle, one daughter, Donna Rae Richmond and husband Johnny, one son, Conrod Crookshanks and wife Deloris. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Matthew (Amy) Crookshanks, Maner (Jamie) Crookshanks, Chad (Tiffany) Crookshanks, Casey Richmond, Michael Crookshanks and one stepgrandson Joshua Crane. Four great-grandchildren: Trenton, Lelia, Austin, Gabrielle Crookshanks and four stepgreat-grandchildren: Katlyn Critchley, September Luellen, Bradley McMillion and Kobe Crane.

Graveside services will be held at the Richardson Cemetery at Smoot on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Fred Fryar and Mr. Jim Fleshman officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel at Rainelle on Monday, June 30, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Pallbearers will be the grandsons.
