Gaye Bailey

Gaye Bailey, 85, of Fairdale, died Wednesday, June 25th, 2014, at her home following a long illness.

Miranda ‘Rahni’ Lynn Borders

Miranda “Rahni” Lynn Borders, 43, of Beckley, was called to her eternal home on Wednesday, June 18, 2014.

Born April 28, 1971, in Beckley, she was the cherished daughter of Veronica “Ronni” Pettiford and Franklin D. Borders. Rahni and her twin sister, Necole Borders, held the honor of being the first born children.

Although Rahni began her first years of education in Beckley, she completed her education in North Carolina, graduating from Orange High School in Hillsborough, N.C. She was a cheerleader and member of various school clubs. She was a graduate of New River Community and Technical College and had just graduated from Bluefield State College receiving a Regents Bachelor of Art Degree. As an advocate for higher education, she had planned on attending West Virginia University to obtain her graduate degree.  

Rahni was employed at the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Resources in Salisbury, N.C. prior to relocating to Beckley. She was currently employed at New River Community and Technical College as a Senior Administrative Secretary, a position she loved. She loved her work family and truly enjoyed going to work every day.

Rahni accepted Christ at an early age and had been a member of Payne Chapel, AME Church, Hillsborough, N.C.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Chester and Jewell Boyden; paternal grandmother, Lucy Jones-Borders; aunt, LaVerne Borders; and uncles, Glen and Leslie Boyden and Kenneth Borders and special uncle, Carl Boyden.

As she journeys home to celebrate her victory, she leaves behind her beloved daughter, Lauren Schofield of Beckley; parents, Veronica Pettiford and Franklin Borders of Beckley; grandfather, Kenneth Borders of Beckley; two sisters, Necole Borders of Charleston, W.Va.  and Catherine (James) Moore of Beckley; brother, Franklin Borders Jr. of  Beckley; step-sister and brother, Annette (Jesse) Foster of Durham, N.C. and Anthony (Chris) Pettiford, Burlington, N.C. Also left to share her precious memories are her nieces, Chesnee Borders, Karringon and Kennadi Smith and Nya Borders; nephews, Joshua McAdoo, Donovan Borders, Jessiah Borders, Quincy Pettiford; beloved great-niece, Mi’lyn Carson; great nephew, Kaison Glen; aunts, Jacqueline and Shelia Boyden, Debra and Sharon Borders, Stephanie (Bobby) Saunders; uncle, Ray (Delores) Boyden and a host of family and friends.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Heart of God Ministries, 1703 South Kanawha St., Beckley, with Bishop Fred T. Simms officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
