Martha Esther Adkins
TURKEY CREEK — Martha Esther Adkins, 63, of Turkey Creek, passed away Friday, May 24, 2013, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, following a long illness.
Born March 8, 1950, at Turkey Creek, she was the daughter of the late Sylvia Mae Lane O’Neal and William Patten O’Neal.
Martha was the wife of Roger “Buck” Adkins for 25 years; they resided at Turkey Creek their entire married life.
She loved hunting, fishing, anything to do with the outdoors and spending time helping family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, James Lloyd O’Neal, Roger Lee O’Neal and Clinton Ray O’Neal, and one sister, Rachael Mellott.
Along with her husband, survivors include her son, Brian Short and his wife, Angela, of Herndon; her daughter, Barbara Bragg and her husband, Danny, of Oceana; her stepson, Timmy Adkins and his wife, Tammy, of Keyrock; grandchildren, Cody Short, Tyler Short, Taylor Bragg, and Shirley Jane Adkins; siblings, Homer O’Neal and his wife, Bonnie, of Spanishburg, Michael Patten O’Neal of Ripley, Ann Musser and her husband, Mark, of Lewisburg; sister-in-law, Ruth of Turkey Creek; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville. The Rev. Glen Hatfield will officiate. Burial will follow in Privett Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until time of service Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Mary Rosellen Callahan, 79, of Beckley, passed away Friday, May 17, 2013.
Services were Friday, May 24, in Dundalk, Md. Burial will be Tuesday, May 28, at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Owings Mills, Md.
