Luther O. Sloan
CANTON, Ohio — Luther O. Sloan, age 91, of Canton, Ohio, passed away Friday, November 29, 2013.
He was born January 16, 1922, in Richwood, West Virginia, to James and Jennie (Smart) Sloan.
Luther retired from the Timken Company in Canton, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by a sister and brother and survived by many friends.
Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood.
Interment will follow at the Richwood Cemetery, Richwood.
All arrangements were made by Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood, W.Va.

MOUNT HOPE — Dawn Joyce Blankenship Tharp, 62, of Mount Hope, died on Sunday, December 1, 2013.

Alfred J. Walker, Jr.
LEWISBURG — Alfred Jones “Al” Walker Jr., 69, passed away Monday, December 2, 2013, at his home in Lewisburg.
Born March 5, 1944, Al was the middle of three children of Alfred Jones Walker Sr. and Elizabeth Hill Walker. He spent most of his younger years in Slab Fork, W.Va. later moving to Beckley and graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School. Al then attended Hampden-Sydney College, graduated from Morris Harvey College and received a Masters Degree in Hospital Administration from the Medical College of Virginia.
In 1974, Al moved to Lewisburg and was employed by Seneca Mental Health. He later held positions as administrator at Greenbrier Clinic, assistant administrator at Plateau Medical Center and program specialist with the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources until his retirement in 2009.
Al served as an elder of the Old Stone Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Lewisburg Elks Club and past member of the Greenbrier County Planning Commission. Al found great joy and pride participating in activities such as the Shanghai Parade and the Polar Bear Plunge where he was bestowed lifetime membership.
Al is survived by his wife of 38 years, Ann Hayne Walker and his three children, Mary Ingles Sievers and husband John of Garden City, N.Y., Alfred Jones “Trip” Walker III and wife Ashley of Crozet, Va. and Katherine Caskie Walker of Mt. Airy, N.C. Also surviving are six grandchildren as well as his sister, Katharine Walker Fernback of St. Albans, England.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Palmer Hill Walker.
The service will be held Saturday, December 7, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Old Stone Presbyterian Church, 100 Church Street Lewisburg with Rev. J. Dexter Taylor officiating. The family will greet friends during the hour before the service and during the reception following the service in the fellowship hall.
