Garnet Marie Meador Cox

BIG CREEK — Garnet Marie Meador Cox, 86, of Big Creek, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2013, at Summers Nursing & Rehabilitation at Hilldale, following a long illness.

Born January 14, 1927 at Pipestem, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Mary Cook Meador.

Mrs. Cox was a homemaker and was a loving mother and grandmother. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence “Doug” Cox, one daughter, Shelvia Beheler, two sons, Duard Lee Cox and Clarence “Jr.” Cox, three sons-in-law, Kenneth Howard, Richard “Buddy” Ward and Glen Beheler, two grandsons, James Douglas Cox and Jason Wesley Grimmett and one great, great grandson, Joseph Adkins.

She is survived by her children, six daughters, Sylvia Howard of Stafford, Va., Joyce Fox and husband Cecil of Hilldale, Linda Osborne and husband Ron of Beckley, Sadie Grimmet and husband Wayne of Woodrumtown, Goldie Ward and companion Ralph Romanello of Hinton and Sandra “Sam” Lane and husband Frank of Fairmont. Three sons, Charles Cox and wife Brenda of Hilldale, Osbey Cox of Big Creek and Roy Cox and wife Sue of Hilldale. One granddaughter whom she raised as a child, Candi Cook and husband Alfon of Bellepoint. Thirty-one grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren, and two great-great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Millie Woolridge and husband Amos of Waynesville, Ohio and Betty Fox of Nimitz. Three brothers, William “Toy” Meador and wife Orlene of Lebanon, Ohio, Donald Meador and wife Patty of Hinton and Bobby Meador of Hinton. Many extended family and friends also survive.

The family would like to thank Dr. Chhabra and the staff of Summers Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care and kindness Garnet received.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 25, 2013, at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel, in Hinton, with Pastor George Cook officiating. Burial will follow in the Cook Cemetery at Pipestem.

Friends may call from 6 until 9 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
