Ralph Martin Bledsoe

FAYETTE — Ralph Martin Bledsoe, 47, of Fayette County, formerly of Pineville, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at Thomas Memorial Hospital, Charleston.

In keeping with his wishes he will be cremated. Memorial services will be at a later date, followed by burial beside his father in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

Lowell Edison Bowden

LINDSIDE — Lowell Edison Bowden, 70, loving husband, brother, and grandfather, passed away Friday, December 4, 2009.

Lowell was retired from the City of Dayton, Ohio, as a code enforcer.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Drema McMillion Bowden; three loving stepsons, and their families, Robert, Linda and granddaughter Katy; David, Carol and grandson Harrison; Brian, Angela and granddaughters Kylee, Keegan, and Kennedy; three sisters, Glena, Shelva, and Sue; one brother, Charles; and many loved nieces and nephews; eight brothers-in-law and their families.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown, W.Va., with Rev. John Offenberger officiating. A time of fellowship and sharing memories of Lowell will be from 6 p.m. until time of services.

Arvil Lee Cook Sr.

OCEANA — Arvil Lee Cook, Sr., 70, went home to be with the Lord Friday, December 4, 2009.

Born December 4, 1939, in Mullens, he was the son of the late Jess and Audrey Cecil Cook.

Mr. Cook was a retired coal miner having worked for Arch Mineral Mining for 35 years.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Marsha Cook; two brothers, David and Terry Cook.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Margaret Cook of Oceana; four sons, Lee Cook and wife, Beverly, of Pineville, Craig Cook and wife, Belinda, of Dunbar, Ronnie Cook and his wife, Michele, of Jesse and Herman Cook and his wife, Barbie, of Ravencliff; a sister, Earline Krantz and husband, Vincent, of Ramsonville, N.Y.; a brother, Sandy Cook and wife, Debbie, of Charleston; a sister-in-law, Sue Cook of St. Albans; twelve grandchildren, Jonathan Cook, David Cook, Nicholas Cook, Matthew Cook, Chandra Carothers, Samantha Cook, B.J. Acord, Erica Cook, Whitney Cook, Megan Cook, Drew Cook, and Delayni Cook; six great-grandchildren, Brooke Cook, Nathan Cook, Katie Cook, Zane Carothers, Lauren Cook and Isaiah Cook; and a host of family and friends.

A celebration of Mr. Cook’s life will be 1 p.m. today, December 7, 2009, at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bill Goode officiating. Mr. Cook will be laid to rest beside his wife in Peaceful Valley Cemetery at Jesse.

Casketbearers will be grandsons.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of service today at the funeral home.

Hettie Frances Hedrick

CLINTONVILLE — Hettie Frances Hedrick, 85, of Clintonville, passed away peacefully December 4 at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center following a long illness.

Born in Corliss on May 21, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Evelyn Rogers.

Hettie was a homemaker and a member of the Methodist Church. She enjoyed canning, cooking, and sewing. Her true passion was playing bingo with her friends Kathy, Ennis, and Norma. She had many caring friends and wonderful neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Harvey Hedrick, Sr., and her son Lewis Harvey Hedrick, Jr.

Survivors include son Steve and wife Nora, son Charlie, son Freddie and wife Deloris, all of Clintonville; daughter Ruby Stevens and husband Richard of Merritt Island, Fla.; grandson Freddie Jr. and wife Ami of Crawley; grandson Brandon of Clintonville; grandsons Ryan and Robert, attending the University of Florida at Gainesville; great-grandsons Riley and Billy of Crawley; beloved twin sister Hallie Louise James of Ansted; sisters Barbara and Donna Rogers of Rainelle; brother Abraham Rogers of Beckley; brother Chris Rogers of Orient Hill; nephew Gilmer Rogers of Charleston; niece Drema Phipps of Princeton; numerous other nieces and nephews; and special friend June Henson of Clintonville.

She will always be loved and remembered by her family and friends. Special thanks go to friend Kathy Campbell for her support in the hospital and to Marlene Henson and Kathryn Massie for all of the support provided during her illness.

Family and friends will be pallbearers.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastor Jay Hicks officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Chapel Cemetery, Clintonville.

Visitation will be today, Dec. 7, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel, Rainelle.

Nell E. Keefer, 97, of Beckley, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at her home.

Lillian Della Coughlin Thompson Vandall Kinder

DANESE — Lillian Della Kinder, 88, of Danese, passed away Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at her home after a long illness.

Born Oct. 3, 1921, in Layland, she was the daughter of the late John and Bertha Fitzpatrick Coughlin. She lived most of her life in the Layland and Danese communities.

She was preceded in death by: her first husband, James Thompson, second husband, Willard “Ted” Vandall, and third husband, Earl Kinder; three children, Teddy, Arbutus “Bootie,” and Bryan Vandall; a sister, Helen Marie Kinder; infant grandson, Earl Lewis Ayers; infant great-grandson, Adam Vandall; son-in-law, Charles “Junior” Fitzwater; stepson, Freddie Kinder; and daughter-in-law, Kathy Hutchinson Vandall.

Survivors include: two daughters, Linda Thompson Fitzwater of Danese and Ester Kinder Ayers of Danese and companion, Ronnie Scruggs, of Rupert; three sons, John Phillip Vandall and wife, Sonja, of Fairfield Glade, Tenn., Lucian Dale Vandall and companion, Penny Hupp, of Timberville, Va., and Earl Ray Kinder and companion, Rhonda Newton, of Beckley; two sisters, Leona Kinder of Bellwood and AnnaBelle Burns of Delaware; brother-in-law, Jim Kinder of Maryland; a special cousin, Jo Ann Bika of Layland; a very special and devoted friend and neighbor, Donna Martin of Danese; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastor Sherman McCombs officiating. Burial will follow in the Layland Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday at the funeral chapel from 1 p.m. until time of the service.

Pallbearers will be Lucian Vandall, Curtis Martin, Bryan Critchley, Lonnie Gunnoe, Howard Pettinaro, and Doug Burns.





Lester Dee Marlowe

CRAIGSVILLE — Lester Dee Marlowe, 84, of Craigsville, went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 4, 2009, in Summersville Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, in Glade Creek Baptist Church, Gladecreek, with Pastor J. Paul Rader officiating. Interment will be in Mt. View Memorial Park, Richwood. Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, in Glade Creek Baptist Church, Gladecreek.

Arrangements were made by Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood.

Audrey Martin, 69, of Beckley passed away Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009.

Fred ‘Tom’ Thomas Richmond

Fred Thomas “Tom” Richmond, 52, of Glen Morgan passed away Saturday, December 5, 2009, at Raleigh General following a short illness.

Born February 19, 1957, at Fitzpatrick, W.Va., he was the son of the late Fred R. Richmond and Norma Pack Richmond.

He loved to hunt, fish and just spend time with friends. Mr. Richmond took medical retirement after working 12 years at Tamarack as a kitchen employee. He was a member of Lodge 1070 I.B.P.O.E. of W. Beckley.

Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Norma Pack Richmond of Glen Morgan; two brothers and three sisters, Ellen Walker and fiancé Donald Kemper of Shady Spring, W.Va., Jeanne Shrewsbery and husband David of Bragg, W.Va., Patrick Richmond and wife Violet of Troy, Ohio, Frances Lilly and husband Eric of Shady Spring, W.Va., and John E. Richmond and wife Kimberly of Lanark, W.Va. Several nieces, nephews and extended family. Special thanks to nieces and nephews, Tina Sakall, Leigh Prince, Shawn Shrewsbury and Dakota Lilly, for the extra care during his illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at Rose and Quesenberry Shady Spring Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 today, December 7, 2009, at the funeral home.

Pastor Don Kelly officiating, burial will follow at the Pack Cemetery in Fitzpatrick, W.Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
