Jerry Ryland Burr
LANSING, Mich. ó Jerry Ryland Burr, age 74, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009 in Lansing after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born June 2, 1935, to Ryland Weston Burr and Zada Nancy (Martin) Burr.
Jerry grew up in a home on a hilltop in Russellville, W.Va. He treasured his mother and father and all of his brothers and sisters for his entire life. Jerry's gift was music, not only singing and playing but also writing. He entertained with his gifts and enjoyed nothing more than to provide his loved ones and friends with original recorded compositions about life's experiences and his love for the Lord. Jerry retired from General Motors in 1984 where he worked as a final repairman.
More than anything, Jerry loved his beautiful bride, Loretta Margaret (Cook) Burr. They were married for 42 years and she passed away in 1998; his dear daughter Nancy (Torgensen) passed away in 1995. He now joins them in a glorious heavenly reunion. He is survived by his beloved son Doug (Becky) Burr and his treasured grandson Jeremy. Also, his much loved siblings, James (Nancy) Burr, Ruth White, Janice Boley, Jerald (Margaret) Burr, Elmer (Mary Sue) Burr, Tryphene Mayhew, Robert (Glenna) Burr and Zada Ann Fitzwater.
There will be no services at this time. A memorial service will be held on Aug. 12, 2010 in Russellville, W.Va. The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful nursing staff of the Oncology floor at Ingham Regional Medical Center and to those at the office of Dr. Elizabeth Layhe.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Jerry Burr to the office of Palliative Medicine at 2316 S. Cedar St., Suite 600, Lansing, MI 48910, where Linda was a priceless help and friend to the family.

CLEVELAND, Ohio ó Yasuko Carter, 49, formerly of Beckley, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009. She was the daughter of Russell E. Carter (known by friends as "Doc Carter") and Teruko Carter, of Beckley.
Services are being held in Cleveland, Ohio today, Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009.

Anna Belle Robinson Dickens
Anna Belle Robinson Dickens, 86, passed peacefully from this life on Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at St. Joseph Hospital in Parkersburg, W.Va.
She was born April 2, 1923, in Dorothy, W.Va., the daughter of Samuel and Myrtle Kirk Robinson. She was a graduate of Colcord High School and worked at the company store. She married Marvin Dickens and is the mother of Judith Noland (Donald) of Parkersburg, W.Va. and Nancy Knicely (Theodore) of Beckley, W.Va. She dedicated her life to being a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to those who knew her.
She was a member of Bethel Freewill Baptist church where she was involved in choir and the ladies auxiliary for several years. She participated in crafter's groups, enjoyed singing in her church choir and in quartets, and volunteered at Helping Hands and other activities.
Anna Belle is also survived by three grandchildren, Autumn Quito of Union City, N.J.; Aaron Noland of Harrisonburg, Va., and Joshua Noland of Charlotte, N.C.; and one great grandchild, Tabitha Quito of Union City, N.J.; one sister, Edna Henry and one brother, Horace Robinson both of Kanawha City, W.Va., as well as several special nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel Robinson and John Robinson.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley at 2 p.m. with interment at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held from 12 noon to time of the service.

CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. — James Patrick French, 56, of 708 Atlanta Ave., Carolina Beach, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, in New Hanover Hospital, Wilmington, N.C., following a long illness.
Pat was born Aug. 26, 1953, to Warren G. and Betty Sue Fitzpatrick French. He spent his childhood in MacArthur and Beckley, attended Greenbrier Military School and was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School.
Preceding him in death were his father in 1995; his mother in 2006 and an infant brother, John David in 1942.
Survivors include his wife, Robin Furr French; a son, Patrick Shane and his girlfriend, Amanda Miller; a sister, Jeanie Darnell and husband, Tom of MacArthur; brother, Warren of Rockingham, N.C.; nephews, Tommy and Dr. Tom Darnell and wife, Patty of Winston Salem, N.C.; Warren III and wife, Julie of Drexel, N.C.; Tracy and his wife of Ohio and great nieces, Caroline Darnell and Emily, Erica and Charlotte French.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 15, 2009, at Wilkinson Funeral Home, 100 Branch View Drive, Concord, N.C. with the Rev. Marvin Honeycutt officiating. Burial will follow in Caroline Memorial Park, Concord, N.C.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home before services, from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday.

OAK HILL — Virginia Williams Larese Greene, 87, of Oak Hill, passed away Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at Plateau Medical Center.
Born April 5, 1922, at Garten, W.Va., the daughter of the late John Williams and Mamie Jackson Williams.
Virginia was of the Methodist faith and attended the Oak Hill United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Gene and Bill Williams; and sisters, Thelma Rupert, Bernice Barton, and Martha Purdy.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Gerald Greene of Oak Hill; her son, Frank Larese and wife, Kay of Belle; grandson, Mark Larese and wife, Ann; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Hailey Larese, all of Lebanon, Tenn.; a sister, Shirley Sizemore and husband, Bill of Parrish, Fla.; a brother, Burley Williams and wife, Annie of Fayetteville.
Her remains rest at the High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, 1435 E. Main St., Oak Hill, where the funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Charles Miller officiating and where the family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until time of the service on Sunday. Entombment will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park.

Elsie Mae Grubich
Elsie Mae Grubich, age 90, of Crownsville, Md., formerly of Beckley, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at the home of her daughter, Shirley Brammer following a long illness.
Born on Oct. 26, 1919 in Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Walter Pierce Akers and Louvennia Rakes Akers.
Mrs. Grubich was a former manager of Walgreen’s. She was of the Baptist faith and had lived in Crownsville, for the past three months, having moved from Scheresville, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Grubich.
She is survived by four generations.
Surviving include her daughter, Shirley Brammer of Crownsville, Md.; three grandchilden, Stephen Brammer of Crownsville, Md., Freddy Brammer of Reboth Beach, Del., Sandra Jones of Jacksonville, Fla.; 10 great- grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; amd a sister, Vivian Jewel Comer of Arizona.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, with Rev. Jimmy Ford officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity.

Junior Hamrick
LEIVASY — Junior Hamrick, 75, of Leivasy, passed away Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at Heartland of Rainelle following a long illness.
Born July 27, 1934, at Elkwater, Randolph County, W.Va., he was a son of the late Edward H. and Fannie M. Swecker Hamrick.
A retired coal miner, he was a U. S. Army veteran, a member of the U.M.W.A., and a member of the New Testament Baptist Church of Grassy Creek. He loved hunting.
Junior was preceded in death by his wife, Effie Emogene ‘Dollie’ Hamrick in 2002, and by his son, Michael Lynn Hamrick, in 1981.
Survivors include: one sister, Monna Joyce ‘Tiny’ O'Dell of Quinwood; and two brothers, Ralph Hamrick and wife, Ruth, of Quinwood, and Johnny Bob Hamrick and wife, Vanesssa, of Rainelle.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastor Troy George officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery at Carl.

Eugene ‘Gene’ E. Lewis
WHITESVILLE — Eugene “Gene” E. Lewis, 81, of Whitesville, passed away Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at CAMC Memorial after a short illness.
Gene was born March 8, 1928. He was the son of the late Ulysses and Elizabeth Lewis.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Ulysses Jr., and James Robert; a sister: Ruth Carol Jarrell; wife, Onamega; and a son, Eugene E. “Louie” Lewis Jr.
Gene was a lifelong resident of the Whitesville area. He retired in June 1990 from CSX where he was Yardmaster at the Elk Run Junction with 46 years of service. He was a four year veteran of the U. S. Navy during the Korean War.
Gene was active in the community and served the region in many positions. He was J. P. at Whitesville from 1961 – 1971. He also served on the Boone County Commission from 1971 to 1979 where he was instrumental in securing many projects to benefit the community which included: the park at Racine and Whitesville.
Gene was also active in local organizations. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 75; VFW where he was Quartermaster for Post 4387; Moose Lodge at Whitesville and the Rotary Club where he was a “Paul Harris Fellow.”
Gene was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Whitesville and a past President and Charter Member of the Presbyterian Men’s Association.
He is survived by a sister, Betty June Proctor and her husband, Howard of Sylvester; loving companion, Mary Jane Harless of Whitesville; a daughter, Sonja Brown of Whitesville; and a son, Stephen Lewis and his wife, Marsha of Whitesville; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Lewis of Mineral Wells, and five grandchildren.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday morning November 17, 2009 at Armstrong Funeral Home Whitesville, with the Rev. Ricky Peters officiating. Burial will follow in the Pineview Cemetery, Orgas.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 16, 2009 at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m.

Amanda Rachele Lilly
Amanda Rachele Lilly, 25, of Crab Orchard, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, in Beckley following a short illness.
Born Aug. 3, 1984, in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Charles Lilly and Carla Piercy Lilly of Crab Orchard.
Besides her father, Amanda was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents; Charles and Goldie Lilly, maternal grandfather Bernie Piercy, and a brother, Jeremy Piercy.
Amanda enjoyed fishing, listening to music, was a tattoo artist, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include her mother, Carla Lilly at home; a sister, Ashley Campbell and husband Danny of Coal City; maternal grandmother Shirley Wall Piercy of Coal City; two step-children, Skyler and Autumn Vandall at home; one niece, Abigail Campbell; and three nephews, Braxton Campbell, Dylan Piercy-Dillon, and Garrett Shrewsbury.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley with the Rev. Terry Hatcher officiating. Friends may gather with the family from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009. Burial will follow in the Charles Lilly Cemetery at Mitchells Ridge.

SUNHILL — Cameron Toler 42, departed this life Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at his home surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born Oct. 31, 1967, in Mullens, he was the son of the late Mack E. Toler and Marian Toler.
Cameron was a carpenter, loved to build things, enjoyed hunting and fishing. He always loved his children, family friends and his dog "Buddy."
In addition to his father he was preceded in death by a son, Austin Toler.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 20 years, Sherry Toler of Sun Hill; a son, Anthony Shane Toler at home; his mother, Marian Toler of Sun Hill; a brother, Brendon Toler and wife, Angel of Wyoming; two sisters, Ella Rakes and husband, Michael and Marsha Jordan all of Dobson, N.C.; his mother and father-in-law, Johnny and Norma Toler of Sun Hill; brother-in-law, David Toler and wife, Rosanna of Sun Hill; sister-in-law, Aretta Hearns and husband, Billy of Lynco; sister-in-law, Donna Stewart and husband Darren of Kopperston; several nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.

BRAMWELL ó Nannie Vinciguerra Varalli, 96, passed away at her home in Bramwell on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009 with her loving daughters by her side.
Born Nov. 3, 1913, in Thacker Mines, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Grace and Mike Vinciguerra. Nannie was the oldest living member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Pocahontas, Va. She was a homemaker and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend to many.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Varalli; four brothers, Rudolph, Philip, Albert, and Ralph; and four sisters, Antoniette, Martha, Youla and Mary Katherine.
Survivors include her daughters, Nancy Jo Varalli of the home and Rose Varalli Romeo of Roanoke, Va.; grandchildren, Teresa Blevins and husband Chuck of Roanoke Va., Cecilia Miller and husband Johnny of Roanoke, Va. and Joseph Romeo and wife Julie of Signal Mountain, Tenn.; six great-grandchildren, Charles Blevins, Maria Miller, Joseph, Nicholas, Ally and Sophia Romeo; two brothers, Joe Vinciguerra of Bramwell and Mike Vinciguerra and wife Shirley of Bluefield, W.Va.; and a sister, Betty Karl of Spring Lake Heights, N.J.
Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today, Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009 at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Pocahontas, Va., with Rev. Father Gaudencio Pugat as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Bluewell.
