Shirley Jane Williams Perry

Shirley Jane Williams Perry, 56, of Artie, W.Va., was called home to her Lord on Oct. 23, 2009, at Appalachian Hospital in Beckley, W.Va., following a brave fight with a long illness.

Born Aug. 24, 1953, in Charleston, W.Va., she was the daughter of Martha Carol Williams and the late Alexander “Bobby” Williams.

Shirley was a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend and faith-filled child of God. She had a smile and a kind word for anyone she meet, having a light inside her that warmed your soul. Though this world seems darker without her, Heaven’s a lot sweeter because she’s there.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Phillip Perry of Artie; daughter, Jennifer Jennings and husband, Craig; mother, Carol Williams of Dorothy; sister, Sandra Scarbro and her husband, Eddie, of Clear Creek; brothers, Alex “JR” Williams and wife, Melody, of Artie, Early Dale Williams and wife, Ginger, of Rocky Mount, Va., Gary Williams and wife, Ina, of Artie, W.Va., David Williams and wife, Felicia, of Clear Creek, Randall Williams of Dorothy and Steven Williams of Horse Creek; JoAnna McGraw, Debbie Evans; three grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and family pet Roady.

In addition to her father, Shirley is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Bill and Dicey Collins; fraternal grandparents, Early “Poppy” and Emma Williams; and two family pets, Sunshine and Roxy.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at Sycamore Free Pentecostal Church, Colcord, W.Va., with Rev. Jerry Tyree and Rev. Gary Williams.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville.

In lieu of flowers the family will be accepting donations to pay for services.

Afterglow

I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.

I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when day is gone.

I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,

Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.

I’d like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun,

Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.
