Walter Rupert Hanson

RENICK — Walter Rupert Hanson, 69, of Renick, WV, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center after a long illness.

Born December 16, 1943, in Harve-de-Grace, Maryland, Walter was the son of Don and Theta Workman Hanson and grandson of Con and Mollie Johnston.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry of Renick; sons Dean (Julie) of Lewisburg, Chris (Ann) of Auto; brother Thomas (Alma) of Auto; sisters Carol Sheets of Florida, Sylvia Simpson (Andy) of Auto, and Lisa Roach (Doug) of Virginia; nephew Clark Taylor (Lisa) of Virginia and grandchildren, Olivia, Sean, Chase and Brody. He was preceded in death by his sisters Donna and Phyllis.

Walter was a Mason and a Ruritan, and was a member of the National and West Virginia Cattleman’s Associations. He was a well-known farmer and Cattleman, real estate developer and businessman in and around Greenbrier County, with a fine appreciation for quality cattle and antique tractors.

But he was most appreciative of his grandchildren, Olivia, Sean, Chase and Brody. He was an active participant in all phases of their lives, attending ball games, livestock shows and Grandparents Day luncheons at their schools and took pleasure in teaching them the fine art of hunting and fishing.

He loved them dearly and they brought great joy to his life.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg on Sunday, July 28, 2013.

Graveside service with Masonic Rites will be conducted at 12 p.m. Monday, July 29, 2013, at the Morningside Cemetery at Renick.

A luncheon will follow the service at the Valley Ranch Farm in Renicks Valley, home of Dean Hanson.
