Ruby Mae Watkins

GHENT — Ruby Mae Watkins, age 88, of Ghent, WV, passed away at the Bowers Hospice House on Wednesday, July 24, 2013.

Born on March 23, 1925, in Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late Emmett Akers and Goldie Mae Richards Akers.

Mrs. Watkins was a former employee of an Eye Glass Factory in Kansas City, Missouri. She had been a Ghent area resident for the past 15 years, moving from Kansas City, Missouri.

Mrs. Watkins was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Watkins, by sisters Lucille Meador, Maria Burton, and a brother Michael Paul Cole.

Survivors include sisters, Jewell Shrewsbury of Ghent, Mildred Price of Columbus, Ohio, and Deloris Alslev of Hudson, Florida. Several nieces and nephews, and special friend and caregiver JoAnn Watson of Coal City also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Orville Setliff officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
