Eva Mae Amick of Marianna, Fla., formerly of Beckley, W.Va., passed away March 26, 2009, in Marianna.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009, in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Harmon Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Charleston, W.Va. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Willie Mae ‘Board’ Carmichael

Mrs. Willie Mae “Board” Carmichael, 83, of 109-35 134th St., Jamaica, New York, formerly of Beckley, W.Va., passed away Sunday, March 29, 2009, at Jamaican Jewish Hospital, N.Y., following a long illness.

Annie Marie Paitsel Hayden

Annie Marie Paitsel Hayden, 88, of the Princeton Health Care Center in Princeton, formerly of 2812 Locust Grove in Bluefield, died Sunday, March 29, 2009, at her residence.

Born November 16, 1920, in Selma, Va., she was the daughter of the late Noah Cam Paitsel and Annie Mae Kenney Paitsel.

She was a retired owner-operator of Joe’s Drive-In in Mullens. She was a member of the Church of God in Pineville and was active in the Golden Bells of the church. She was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed bingo and traveling with her church group. She had been a resident of Princeton since 2002, moving here from the Pineville and Mullens area.

In addition to her parents, her husband, Joe Hayden; a great-grandson, Jhaun Luke Hayden; 13 brothers and sisters; and a special niece, Sonni Harnar, preceded her in death.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Survivors include three sons, James Lewis Monroe, Jr., and companion Alisa Madsen of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Larry Allen Hayden and companion Jamie Walker of Buffalo, W.Va., and Harold Hayden and wife Sandy of Mullens; two daughters, Brenda Monroe Perdue and husband Jimmy of Bluefield and Barbara Hayden Folden and husband Clarence of Mullens; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a special daughter-in-law, Pamela Hayden of Pineville, W.Va.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton, with Pastor Emory Marchant officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m.

Betty Linkous, 76, of Kopperston, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2009, at Raleigh General Hospital, following a long illness.

OCEANA — Margaret O. Lusk, 88, departed this life Monday, March 30, 2009.

A celebration of Margaret’s life will be 12 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Lois W. McCraw

Mrs. Lois W. McCraw, 82, of Sinks Grove, died at her residence at 9:16 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2009, following an extended illness.

Born November 29, 1926, at Alderson, she was the daughter of the late James B. and Viola McClung Warren Knapp.

Mrs. McCraw was a member of the Broad Run Baptist Church at Wolf Creek. She was a 1944 graduate of Alderson High School. She was a homemaker and a highly devoted mother to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, O’Dell McCraw, in 2003; two brothers, James B. Warren and Robert Warren; two half brothers, Gerald and Junior Warren; a son-in-law, John “Eddie” Osborne; and a grandson, Michael C. Osborne.

Survivors include a daughter, Libby Osborne of Union; five sons, Tom and fiancee, Gloria, of Lexington, Va., Steve and wife, Tammy, of Lewisburg, Doug and wife, Tracy, of Lynchburg, Pat McCraw of Sinks Grove, and Kevin and wife, Lisa, of Ronceverte; one sister, Mary Bowyer of Staunton, Va.; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services have been set for 11 a.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009, in Memorial Chapel of McCraw Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mike Ford and the Rev. Gary Baker officiating. Burial will follow in New Lebanon Cemetery at Pickaway.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Kanawha HospiceCare, Inc., 223 Maplewood Ave., Lewisburg, WV 24901.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation and love to niece, Kellen Burdette, granddaughter, Debbie Hylton, Candance White, and a special thanks to Misty Porterfield, along with the HospiceCare givers.

Sandra Gail McGraw, 49, of Victor, passed away at her residence Sunday, March 29, 2009, following a long illness.

She was born January 28, 1960, in Fayette County, W.Va., and was a daughter of the late Rufus R. and Pruna Vesta Neff Legg.

Her sister, Barbara Bays, preceded her in death on January 16, 2009.

Sandra was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church of Victor and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Dwayne McGraw of Saturday Road, Victor; a daughter, Brittany Michelle McGraw, and a son, Dwayne Edward “Eddie” McGraw, both at home; a sister, Debra Middleton and Ralph of Saturday Road, Victor; two brothers, Gary Randolph and Daisy Legg and Dennis and Sherry Legg, all of Saturday Road, Victor; and a brother-in-law, Raymond “Bud” Bays of Victor.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home Chapel in Ansted, with Danny Sears officiating. Burial will follow in Martin Cemetery at Horseshoe.

Jesse Vernon Musser, 88, of Aberdeen, N.C., formerly of Mullens, died Sunday, March 29, 2009.

James E. Settle

James E. Settle, 81, of Judson Road, Talcott, died 2:30 a.m. Sunday, March 29, 2009, at his home, following a long illness.

Born June 10, 1927, at Ronceverte, he was the son of the late Clayton L. and Luvenia A. Cox Settle.

He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, and later the U.S. Air Force. Jim was a member of the Carpenter’s Union Local 1911, and he retired as a Carpenter Superintendent. During his career, he had worked at the National Observatory at Green Bank and the White House in Washington, D.C.

Preceding him in death are a daughter, Jane Settle Farley, in 2008, as well as five brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen Lilly Settle at home; two daughters, Barbara M. Reynolds of Linden, Va., and Beverly H. Justice of Shelby, N.C.; a son, James R. Settle of Margate, Fla.; a brother, Robert L. Settle of Ft. Smith, Alaska; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, with Pastor Robbie Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in the Alderson Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors from noon until service time.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

William Lee Shrewsbury

William Lee Shrewsbury, 65, of Stephenson, W.Va., died March 28, 2009, at his home, following an extended illness.

Born September 22, 1943, at Arista, W.Va., he was the son of the late Chess and Allie Shrewsbury.

He was formerly employed by the Crab Orchard-MacArthur Public Service District.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lacy, John, and Richard Shrewsbury, and a sister, Glennis Shrewsbury.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 47 years, who was the love of his life, Bunny Sue Shrewsbury; their three daughters, Janet Wolf of Bud, Libby Cumby and husband Rick of Shady Spring, and Bilie Arthur and husband David of Crab Orchard; eight grandchildren, Bobby Bishop, Jr., and wife Donita, Tabitha Johnson and husband Marshall, T.J. Bennett and girlfriend Megan Tolliver, Jennifer Bishop and fiancé Jerry Jessee, Kasey Cumby, Tyler Arthur, Cole Arthur, and Tyler Cumby; five great-grandchildren, Alex Bishop, Sara Johnson, Chelsey Bishop, Trey Bishop, and Blake Jessee; a brother, Chess R. Shrewsbury and wife Darlene of Elkton, Md.; two sisters, Vickie Cebula and husband Stanley of Elkton, Md., and Rachel Chester and husband Ray of Danese; a sister-in-law, Shirley Shrewsbury of Elkton, Md.; and a host of special nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mary Elizabeth Ripoll Thompson, 85, of Ashland, Ky., died Saturday, March 28, 2009, at the Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.

Born August 5, 1923, at Lochgelly, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Vincente Casto and Elsie Fridley Ripoll.

Mrs. Thompson was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Ashland, Ky., and was a homemaker. She graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1941.

Two brothers, Robert and John H. Ripoll, and a sister, Dolores Davis, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Mote Thompson, Jr.; two sons, Tom Thompson and wife, Elizabeth, of Long Boat Key, Fla., and Jeff Thompson and wife, Elisa, of Minneapolis, Minn.; a sister, Paquita Sarver and husband, Kenny, of Oak Hill; and a brother, William Ripoll and wife, Marlene, of Oak Hill. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Tanner, Tazio, Hayleigh, and Torey Thompson.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009, at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill, with Rev. Jack Barker officiating. Entombment will be at High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Oak Hill.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Born January 10, 1957, in Richwood, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Geraldine Elswick of Price Hill, W.Va.

Kimberly was a LPN for 25 years.

In addition to her parents, Kimberly was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph Elswick of Kilsyth and Calvin Elswick of North Carolina, and one sister, Rebecka Craddock of Mt. Hope.

Kimberly leaves behind her husband, Gerald A. Wilburn of Mt. Hope; daughters, Cynthia Wilson and husband, Phillip, of Harper and Brandy Addison and husband, Billy, of Maple Fork; sons, Gerald Wilburn, Jr., and wife, Kelli, of Oak Hill and Matthew Craddock and future wife, Lindsey Plumley, of Mt. Hope; eight grandchildren, William, Savannah, and Phillip Wilson, Ty and Jada Wilburn, Michelle and Michael Suttle, and Isaac Addison; two sisters, Madeline Jackson and husband, Buford, of Price Hill and Tena Suttle and husband, Michael, of Harvey; a brother, Tony Elswick of Price Hill; nieces, Diane Aydelott, Mandy Blankenship, and Heather Jones; nephews, Tracy Elswick and Patrick Elswick; a great-niece, Taylor Suttle; and a sister-in-law, Brenda Elswick. She also leaves behind many other nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
