Patsy Ann O’Daniels Boyd

WINNABOW, N.C. — Patsy Ann O’Daniels Boyd, 79, of River Road, SE, Winnabow, formerly of Shell Point Road, Shallotte, N.C., died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, in the Brunswick Cove Nursing Center.

Mrs. Boyd was born Jan. 1, 1929, in Kincaid, W.Va., to the late Thomas and Nora Pennington Kincaid.

She was a member of the Eastern Star, and Oak Hill, West Virginia, Chapter and Southport Chapter, and a past matron of both chapters.

She was predeceased by her husband Charles Wesley O’Daniels in 1985; her second husband, Luther Boyd, in 1996; and a granddaughter, Della Hoyle, in 1996.

She is survived by her two sons, Dallas L. O’Daniels of Shallotte and Dale L. O’Daniels of Shallotte; a daughter, Cheryl Richard, husband Ray, of Supply, N.C.; a sister, Beulah Phillips of Kincaid; four grandchildren, Shawn, Bryan, Christopher, and Leah; and seven great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, in the Brunswick Memorial Gardens Mausoleum by the Celebrant Jason L. Benton.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Charles ‘Bob’ Robert Crews

LURAY, Va. — Charles “Bob” Robert Crews, 74, of 578 Circle View Road, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, in Luray.

He was born Jan. 23, 1934, at Dixie, W.Va., a son of the late Thomas Milton Crews and Hilah Smith Crews.

Mr. Crews was a Korean Conflict U.S. Army veteran. He worked for Page County School System for 30 years as an Administrative officer.

He was a former football coach, Principal of Shenandoah and Luray Elementary Schools and Director of Facilities of Page County Schools. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, where he was an outstanding athlete being named to the Triple A All State Team in football. Playing on football and basketball State Championship teams, he was a member of the Woodrow Wilson High School Hall of Fame. Bob was invited to try out for the Green Bay Packers.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Milton Crews.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Marie Gwinn Crews, whom he married on May 30, 1959, of Luray, Va.; three daughters, Ann Van Wyck of Luray, Barbara Ehlers of Luray and Mary Alice Lipscomb of Luray; brother, Eddie Crews of Shady Spring; a sister, Janet Jordan of Maiden, N.C.; and seven grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery, Luray.

Friends may call 7 to 8 p.m. today (Tuesday) at The Bradley Funeral Home Inc., 187 E. Main St., Luray.

Jimmy B. Frame

CANVAS — Jimmy B. Frame, 90, of Canvas, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, in Webster Nursing and Rehab Center, Cowen, W.Va.

He was born June 21, 1918, at Skyles, W.Va.

Jimmy retired from Tracy Hilton Coal Company, Cannelton, W.Va., was a member of the UMWA, was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, 90th Inf. 3rd SAD, and was a member of VFW Post 3738, Webster Springs, W.Va.

Survivors include his wife, Bethal Frame of Cowen; a son, Aaron Cogar of Dagsboro, Del.; a daughter, Sally and husband, Don Hartley of Nettie; three grandsons, Brad Hartley of Parkersburg, WD Hartley II of Canvas, and Andrew Cogar of Dagsboro, Del.; and a brother, Floyd Frame of Richwood.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood, with the Rev. Butch Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park, Richwood.

Friends may call 12 noon until time of the service Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at the funeral home.

Agnes Kincaid Franklin

DELAND, Fla. — Agnes Kincaid Franklin, 85, of Deland, formerly of Forest Hill, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, in a Florala, Ala., hospital following a short illness.

Born March 1, 1923, at Barger Springs, she was a daughter of the late Barger and Malinda Kessinger Meadows. She was a former employee of A&P; Grocery Company as a sales clerk and loved her family, making many quilts for all of her grand and great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her first husband, John Lee Kincaid; one daughter, Janie Hatfield; and one brother, Buford Meadows.

She is survived by her husband, William Roy Franklin of Florala, Ala.; one son, Jennings Kincaid of Georgetown, S.C.; three daughters, Danese Kincaid of Kenley, N.C., Kathryn Scott of Paxton, Fla., and Betty Kincaid of Georgetown, S.C.; 15 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Chester Meadows of Barger Springs, Barger Meadows Jr. of Talcott and Beecher Meadows of Talcott; six sisters, Barbara Koontz of Union, Carolyn Huffman of Forest Hill, Ann Meadows of War Ridge, Wilma Fox of Williamsburg, Shirley Winfrey of Williamsburg and Patricia “Patty” Richmond of Beckley; and stepmother Helen Meadows of Talcott.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Joe Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery at Ballengee.

Friends may call at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors from 11 a.m. until time of service Wednesday.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Clarence Gilbert Lilly

Clarence Gilbert Lilly, age 78, of Beckley, passed away Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at Bowers Hospice House in Cranberry, W.Va., following a long illness.

Born Nov. 25, 1929, at Dunns, W.Va., he was the son of the late Clarence Lilly and Icy “Hatcher” Lilly.

Mr. Lilly had retired from the Continental Baking Company, known as Wonder Bread, where he served as a truck loader for 39 years. He was also a member of the Cranberry Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Neil Lilly.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 and a half years, Mildred “Rickman” Lilly; two sons, Michael Lilly and his wife, Donna, of Lincoln, Neb., and Mitchell Lilly and his wife, Belinda, of Sparta, Tenn.; three daughters, Kathleen Penny of Taylor, Mich., Barbara Moore of Ravenna, Ohio, and Peggy Zlatkin of Sterling Heights, Mich.; a brother, Luther Randolph Lilly of Beckley, and a sister, Beulah Rose Moye of Beckley; 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services for Mr. Lilly will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cranberry Baptist Church with Pastor Roger Pauley officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call 5 to 9 p.m. today at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley, and one hour prior to the service time on Wednesday at the church.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

HINTON — Ada Ann Maddy, 79, of 1008 Greenbrier Drive, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, in Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.

Ida Marie Meadows Nelson

BALLENGEE — Ida Marie Meadows Nelson, 86, of Ballengee, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Aug. 24, 2008, in the Springfield Center at Lindside after a long illness.

Born March 29, 1922, at Talcott, she was the daughter of the late Bert and Mary Meadows.

Mrs. Nelson was a homemaker and a member of the Riverview Chapel in Hinton where she presided over the nursery for many years. Her hobbies were crocheting and crafts and she made many loving gifts for family and friends. Ida had a green thumb which she built into a greenhouse business from which she sold flowers and garden plants in the spring. Even though she was very industrious, her door was always open to family and friends and she was loved by all who knew her.

Preceded in death by her husband, Donald M. Nelson; a granddaughter, Bonnie Nelson Woolwine; and nine brothers and sisters, Dorsey Meadows of Wayside, Brady Meadows of Forest Hill, Vada Meadows of Ballengee, Lula Clarkson of Gap Mills, Rosetta Wooten of South Charleston, Ollie Huffman of Willowood, Ruby Cosgro of Detroit, Mich., Herbert Meadows of Avis and Harold Meadows of Buck.

Survived by six children, Charlie Nelson and wife Amber of Ballengee, Beulah Lopes and husband Anthony of Ballengee, John Nelson and wife Nancy of Greenville, Va., Brenda Radford of Beckley, James Nelson and wife Millie of Ballengee and Timothy Nelson and wife Tamara of Ballengee; 10 grandchildren, Charlie Nelson Jr. of Roanoke, Va., Mark Nelson of New Castle, Va., Laura Frango of New Castle, Va., Craig Lopes and Carrie Danton of Hooksett, N.H., Crystal Collins of Springfield, Mass., Marsha Grant of Waynesboro, Va., Dora Radford of Charleston, Gina Luoni of Fairmont and James Nelson Jr. of Ballengee; two stepgranddaughters, Ann Rose of Marie and Laura Huffman of Raleigh, N.C.; six great-grandchildren, Josh, Chris, and Nathan Nelson of New Castle, Va., Kaylee Grant of Waynesboro, Va., and Jerry and Jessica Woolwine of Stuartsville, Va.; one brother, Orville Meadows and wife Mamie of Pembroke, Va.; and two sisters, Elizabeth Jones of Forest Hill and Goldie Leadingham of Kentucky.

Funeral services will be held 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Robbie Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery at Ballengee.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors.

Asuncion Marquis Richmond

Asuncion Marquis Richmond, age 84, of Stanaford, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at the Hilltop Health Care Center following a battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Born on Nov. 7, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Maria Rodriques Marquis.

Mrs. Richmond was a former employee of the G.C. Murphy Company in Beckley, and was later a cook at the Stanaford Elementary School.

Mrs. Richmond had lived most of her adult life at Stanaford.

She enjoyed flea markets and yard sales, where she had met many people and had made many friends. She loved to paint and make ceramics, and was known for her cooking ability.

Mrs. Richmond was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, James Boyd Richmond Sr.; brothers, Charlie, Manuel and Ralph Marquis; and a sister, Elizabeth Fallon.

Survivors include her children, James B. Richmond II and his wife, Suk Cha, of Stanaford and Rosemary Richmond Carter and her husband, Franklin David, of Beckley; sister, Mary Eagle of Fishersville, Va.; a grandson, Brian Moran and wife, Michele, of Stanaford; and two great-grandchildren, Chaz and Cameron.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley with Pastor Mi Yang Walton officiating. Singing will be by Sherry Williams. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum, Beckley.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services.

Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Oma Frances Meadows Tumlin

FAIRFIELD, Va. — Oma Frances Meadows Tumlin, 77, passed away Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was formerly a resident of Pineville, W.Va., and was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Opal Shuck, brothers, Virgil Shuck and Floyd “Junior” Shuck, and a sister, Coral Davis.

She is survived by her sister, Rose Ann Bailey of Beckley; sons, Bryant “Butch” Meadows of Raphine, Va., and Gary Meadows and wife, Shirley, of Fairfield, Va.; a daughter, Marsha Rexrode and husband, “Rexx,” of Fairfield, Va.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren,.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to a charity of your choice.

Following cremation, the family will receive friends and relatives from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at the Harrison Funeral Home and Crematory, Lexington, Va.
