Ethel Mildred Dye

CLOTHIER — Ethel Mildred Dye, 89, of Clothier, W.Va., passed away June 21, 2008.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, Gilbert, W.Va. Friends may call at the funeral chapel this evening after 6 p.m.

Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert, W.Va., is in charge of arrangements.

Herbert H. Fox Jr.

MEADOW BRIDGE — Herbert H. Fox Jr., 64, of Meadow Bridge, passed away Friday, June 20, 2008, at Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley, following a long illness.

Born July 18, 1943, in Kathryn, W.Va., he was a son of the late Herbert H. and Dona Fox Sr.

Herb was a chef at The Greenbrier hotel in White Sulphur Springs for 33 years. He was a Christian and of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Myrtle McClanahan and Mildred Goddard; and father and mother-in-law, Edgar and Lula Bryant.

He will be sadly missed by family and friends which include his wife, Rose Marie Bryant Fox of Meadow Bridge; a son, Christopher Fox of Lewisburg; a granddaughter, Madison Fox of Caldwell; a sister, Greta Thompson and husband, Edward, of Rainelle; two sisters-in-law, Arbutus Persinger and husband, Jack, of Rainelle and Della Stull and husband, Denzil, of Marion, Ark.; a brother-in-law, William Edgar Bryant Jr. and wife, Linda, of Richmond, Va.; five nephews, two nephews-in-law, and five nieces-in-law.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Rainelle, with Rev. Milton Ker officiating. Burial will follow at the Wallace Memorial Cemetery in Clintonville.

Pallbearers will be Sonny Doughery, Gary Ray, Timmy Killen, Peter Timmens, Steve Mengel, Carol Mann, Jim Ambrose, and James Henderson.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Kenneth C. Fox

BELLWOOD — Kenneth C. Fox, 73, of Bellwood, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 21, 2008, in the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center at Fairlea, following a long illness.

Born on Aug. 7, 1934, at Crickmer, he was the son of the late Robert and Lillie Goddard Fox.

Kenneth was a coal miner for most of his life. He was of the Pentecostal faith. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved fishing and old cars. Though he will be missed, his family knows he is waiting for them in heaven.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Velma Bennett Fox; a son, Edward Fox and wife Mary of Bellwood; a daughter, Threnna Dorsey and husband Bobby of Springdale; two sisters, Retha Lively of Florida and Elsa Lane of West Virginia; three grandchildren, Shena Fox, Aaron Dorsey, and Bobby Joe Dorsey; and a great-granddaughter, Takeisha Fox.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2008, in the Claypool Cemetery at Meadow Bridge, with Pastor Tim Dillon officiating.

There will be no visitation, as he requested.

MT. NEBO — Betty Matilda Gotthardt, 85, of Mt. Nebo, Nicholas County, W.Va., died Saturday, June 21, 2008.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, in the Harrington Cemetery at Nelson, Ohio. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the White Funeral Home at Summersville.

C. Nadine Gwinn

C. Nadine Gwinn, 81, of Piney View, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, June 20, 2008.

She was born May 9, 1927, in Danese, W.Va., to Erma Callison Walker and Lora (Boots) Walker.

Nadine attended Terry Independent Christian Church. She was loved and respected by all those who knew her, and will be sadly missed by family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Lloyd Walker, James Walker, and Alan Walker; a sister, Lorine (Skee) Lane; a daughter-in-law, Deanna C. Gwinn; and a great-grandson, Jake Bennett.

Those left behind brokenhearted and grieving are her husband of 61 years, Harlan Lewis Gwinn; three sons, Steve and wife, Sonja, of Lanark, Randy and wife, Kathy, of Lanark, and Rodney and wife, Diann, of Daniels; a sister, Herma Fox and husband, Tracy, of Blanchester, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Jeff Gwinn, Wendy Bennett, Greg Gwinn, Mandy McGuire, Tammy Alton, Courtney Shumate, and Randy (Chippy) Gwinn; 12 great-grandchildren, Allison Dorton, Kelsie Dorton, Allie Gwinn, Savannah Gwinn, David Glen Shumate, Katie Alton, Gabrielle Alton, Hunter Gwinn, Aghey Alton, Adam Wills, Alex Wills, and Austin Wills; and several special nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Allen Whitt officiating.

Grandsons will be serving as pallbearers.

Friends may gather with the family from 12 noon through the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Amara Evette Neely

OAK HILL — Amara Evette Neely, 6 weeks old, of Oak Hill, passed away Friday, June 20, 2008, at CAMC - Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Charleston, following a short illness.

Born May 6, 2008, at Huntington, W.Va., she was the daughter of Joseph Neely and Tara Neal, both of Oak Hill, W.Va.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Daniel Neely Jr.

Other than her parents, survivors include a sister, Chloe Neely of Oak Hill, W.Va.; paternal grandmother, Linda Neely of Oak Hill, W.Va.; maternal grandparents, Anna Kincaid of Oak Hill, W.Va., and Neal Kincaid of Fayetteville, W.Va.; and maternal great-grandparents, Richard and Lee Ann Bailey of Oak Hill, W.Va.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, W.Va. Burial will follow at Treadway Cemetery, Oak Hill, W.Va.

Charlotte Baitha Rodgers

CORLISS — Charlotte Baitha Rodgers, 72, of Corliss, passed away Friday, June 20, 2008, in the Heartland of Rainelle, following a long illness.

Born on June 20, 1936, in Quinwood, she was the daughter of the late William and Peachie Nutter Neal.

Charlotte was a housewife who enjoyed working in her flower garden.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Herman Mackrel Rodgers; a daughter, Charlotte Louise Rodgers; a brother, Mike Neal; and a sister, Dorothy Rogers.

Survivors include 11 children, Norma Sue Aldridge of Rainelle, Randy Lee Rod-gers of Rainelle, Linda Lou Carte of Tennessee, Dreama Kay Waugh of Rainelle, Kenneth Dale Rodgers of Rainelle, Russell Boyd Rodgers of Rainelle, Kathy Alderman of Renick, Melvin Leo Rogers of Raleigh, N.C., Lisa Ann Rogers of Rainelle, Scotty Lee Rodgers of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Wanda Lou Rodgers of Charlotte, N.C.; brothers, Abraham Neal of Mt. Lookout, Tom Neal of Quinwood, Ben Neal of Nallen, LeRoy Neal of Quinwood, and David Neal of Quinwood; two sisters, Hallie Haynes of Nallen and Mary Parsons of Halifax, Va.; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at Smathers Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Gene Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in the Rider Cemetery at Corliss.

Curtis Junior Steele

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Curtis Junior Steele, 80, of Greensboro, N.C., passed away Sunday, June 22, 2008.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Lakeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Street Chapel.

Evelyn Luther Strother

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. — Evelyn Luther Strother, 85, of Midlothian, Va., passed away peacefully to be with God on June 20, 2008.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Francis Michael Strother; her daughters, Judith S. Jones (Ronald W.) and Donna S. Deekens (William G.); and son, John M. Strother, all of Midlothian; grandchildren, Amy and Michael Jones, and Brent and Greg Deekens, also of Midlothian.

She was preceded in death by her parents, E.E. and Julia Mellen Luther of Beckley, W.Va.; and a brother, John E. Luther of Atlanta, Ga.

A native of Beckley, W.Va., and crowned the first “Miss Beckley” of 1940, Mrs. Strother moved to Portsmouth, Va., during World War II, where she met her husband, “Mike.” Following a move to Richmond, Va., in 1963, she continued enjoying being a devoted wife and mother, raising her three children. She considered her greatest accomplishment as that of a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her talents as a wonderful cook, and creator of beautiful wedding cakes and other delicacies, were widely known and enjoyed by many admirers. She also enjoyed tending her flower garden and particularly loved azaleas, camellias and gardenias. Her beautiful smile and generous nature were treasured by all who knew her.

Mrs. Strother also enjoyed her positions at the former Central Fidelity Bank, where she served for many years as a branch manager and assistant vice president. Mrs. Strother was a former member of Cradock United Methodist Church, Portsmouth, Va., and a current member of Westhampton United Methodist Church, Richmond, Va., the National Association of Banking Women, Inc., and the Order of the Eastern Star.

The family invites friends to a visitation and celebration of her life at Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., Richmond, Va., today, June 23, from 6 to 8 p.m.

A graveside service and interment will be held Wednesday, June 25, at 2 p.m. in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, W.Va.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to any of the following: Cradock United Methodist Church, 24 Channing Ave., Portsmouth, VA 23702; the Alzheimer’s Association; Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic, 4620 Haygood Road, Suite 1, Virginia Beach, VA 23455; or any Hospice Association of your choice.

The family would especially like to thank the staff of Lucy Corr Village for their care and compassion over the past four years, and also St. Mary’s Hospice for the past few weeks.
