FAYETTEVILLE — Edith Lucille Case Bryant, 89, of Fayetteville, passed away Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, at home following an extended illness.
Born Sept. 24, 1918, at Skyles, she was the daughter of the late Ervin and Arminta Issabelle Doddrill Case.
Mrs. Bryant was a member of Fayetteville Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harrison Kermit Bryant; and her son, James Franklin Bryant.
Left to cherish her memory are her granddaughter, Kelly R. and her husband, David C. Thompson, and their son, Joshua R. Thompson; two grandsons, Tracy J. and his wife, Marion, and Todd F. Bryant, all of Lincoln, Neb.
Service will be 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with Pastor Ron George Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.
The family will receive friends one hour before service at the funeral home.

Okey R. Griffith
STEPHENSON — Okey Ray Griffith, 71, of Stephenson, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, at a Charlottesville, Va., hospital following a long illness.
Born Sept. 15, 1936, at Basin, he was the son of the late Joe and Ethel (Shrewsbury) Griffith.
Okey was a former coal miner and foreman for the Department of Highways, and a 16-year resident of Stephenson. In his leisure he enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and Jeep riding.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Griffith.
Those left to cherish his memory include his companion, Eva Whitt; five sons, Joey Griffith and his wife, Tammy, of Basin, Jerry Griffith and his wife, Teresa, of Herndon Heights, Johnny Griffith and his wife, Monica, of Mullens, David Griffith and his wife, Angie, of Herndon Heights and Bobbie Joe Griffith and his wife, Amanda, of Mullens; 10 grandchildren, Curtis, Nicole, Joshua, Heath, Corey, Aaron, Katie, Victoria, Zachary and Chase Griffith; and brothers and sisters.
Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, Mullens, with the Rev. Grant Prince officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Pisgah Cemetery, Basin.

Olive Louise Burnett Jones
MAPLEWOOD — Olive Louise Burnett Jones, 81, a resident of Maplewood since 1951, passed away Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, at Appalachian Hospital from a long battle of illnesses and complications from accidental falls.
Born at Lawton on March 17, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Robert S. Burnett and Goldie Hazel Berry Burnett.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years in 2003, Harry R. Jones; three brothers, James Burnett, Eddie Burnett and Gerald Burnett; a sister, Betty Burnett; stepdaughter, Gladys Jones Fitzpatrick; and grandson, Loran David Jon-es Jr.
Louise was a homemaker. She loved to read her Bible, cook, garden, can, shovel snow, and for the past four years tell stories of her beloved Greenwood Mountain and her escapades with her dear friend, Neil Wood. She would put her hand to her mouth, start laughing and say, “I could write a book about the things that happened in that coal camp.” She professed to be a doctor because she operated on a duck once. St. Patrick’s Day was one of her very favorite days because it was her birthday. She was born with red hair and she loved it. She hated the name Olive and also had a story behind that.

ALDERSON — Mrs. Jean F. McVey, 73, of Alderson, went home to be with her husband, the late Howard R. McVey Jr., on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, after a short illness.
She was born June 9, 1934, in Alderson, and was the daughter of the late Oakley E. and Nora Carden Ford.
She was a lifelong resident of Alderson, a member of Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church of Alderson, a graduate of Alderson High School, an avid supporter of the Alderson Volunteer Fire Department, a past member of the Fourth of July Committee, a past member of the Alderson Woman’s Club and a member of the Triple Deck Bridge Club. She had worked at Smith’s Drug Store and Pence Springs Manufacturing Plant. She devoted her life to her husband, her children and grandchildren.
Other than her parents, Mrs. McVey was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Rodgers McVey Jr.; and a granddaughter, Beth Thompson.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Lynn Arbaugh and husband, Jack, of Alderson and Lois Ann McVey of Alderson; a son, H.R. McVey III and wife, Detra, of Alderson; a sister, Sue Fisher Murray and husband, Larry, of Proctorville, Ohio; six grandchildren, Heather Lynn Johnson and husband, Jimmy, Colton Zachary Arbaugh, Cody Howard McVey, Eva Marie McVey, Caden Howard-Rodgers McVey and Katie Thompson; and a great-granddaughter, Allison Johnson.
Service will be 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at Old Greenbrier Baptist Church, Alderson, with the Rev. Jonathan Hunt, Dr. James Johnson and the Rev. Edward Midcap officiating. Burial will follow in Alderson Cemetery.

LABELLE, Fla. — Newman Carl Moore, 77, of LaBelle, formerly of Boomer and Charleston, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, at Lehigh Regional Medical Center from complications following surgery.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lillian Moore; a brother, Harold; and three sisters, Ruby Westfall, Glenna Moore and Gay Moore.
In 2002, after 38 years of keeping the lanes and machines going as the pin spotter mechanic at Robin Lanes in Kanawha City, he retired with his wife to LaBelle.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Phylis; sons, Kenneth of Raeford, N.C., and Dale (Monica) of Alva, Fla.; daughters, Carol Jane (Ted) Craigo of Beckley and Karen (Jim) Young Jr. of Scott Depot; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and his bowling buddies.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden.

ELK KNOB — Charles O. Richmond, 61, of Elk Knob, passed away Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, at Summers County Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.
Born Aug. 6, 1946, at Elk Knob, he was a son of the late E.M. and Mildred Grimmett Richmond.
Charles was a lifelong resident of Summers County, a deacon of Bennett Memorial Chapel and a self-employed timberman for 30 years.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald “Ronnie” Richmond.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Imogene Ward Richmond; three daughters, Lisa Carol Richmond at home, Mary Ann Smith and husband, Billy, of Vanceburg, Ky., and Doris Jean Naik and husband, Santosh, of Elk Knob; a granddaughter, Abby “Little Doris Jean” Naik of Elk Knob; a brother, Noah “Roger” Richmond and wife, Mary, of Hix; and several nieces and nephews.

Born Dec. 23, 1930, she was the daughter of the late H.P. “Paul” and Lucille Mann Jackson.

Ms. Wills had proudly worked for Celanese Corp. for 42 years before her retirement in 1995 and was a member of Bozoo Christian Church.
