William Hansford ‘Hank’ Blankenship
SWISS — William Hansford “Hank” Blankenship, 82, of Swiss, Nicholas County, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at home after an extended illness.
He was retired from the Fayette County Board of Education. He was a member of Holly Gospel Church, Swiss, a licensed barber, a World War II Navy veteran and a member of Gauley Bridge VFW Post 8366. He was born Dec. 3, 1924, at Clendenin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Deloris L. Blankenship, and his parents, William A. and Carrie E. Huffman Blankenship.
Survivors include his daughters, Wanda Martin and husband, David, of Camden-on-Gauley, Millie Gonzalez of Fayetteville and Sharon Williams and husband, Mike, of Pratt; son William Paul Blankenship and wife, Shelvy, of Swiss; sisters. Ruth Acord of Swiss, Florence Tucker of Swiss, Ester Acord of Keslers Cross Lanes, Martha McAtee of Brownsville and Dolly Treadway of Belva; brother, Woodrow Blankenship of Swiss; grandchildren, Lori Diann Shaffer, Lesley Denise Ridenour, David L. “D.J.” Martin Jr., Kristina W. Goforth, Stephen Myles Wheatley II, Makenzie A. Gonzalez, James M. Williams Jr., Daniel P. Williams, Tina L. Huffman, Heather R. Blankenship and Cassandra L. Blankenship; 17 great-grandchildren; an uncle and five aunts.
Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at Pennington Funeral Home Chapel, Gauley Bridge, with the Rev. James Armentrout and grandson Jimmy Williams officiating. Interment will be in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by Gauley Bridge VFW Post 8366.
Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home chapel.

Willa ‘Jean’ Smith Coleman
HERNDON — On Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, God called a beautiful Angel home. Willa “Jean” Smith Coleman, 70, of Herndon, went to her Heavenly home following a short illness.
Born Dec. 27, 1936, in Coleman, Ky., she was the oldest child of the late Earl and Ethel Smith.
Mrs. Coleman was an active member of Garwood Church of God. She enjoyed being with her family and friends. She also enjoyed oil painting and sharing them with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 30 years, William Austin “Bill” Coleman, on July 20, 1984; her oldest child, Ronnie Coleman; a brother, Earl Smith Jr.; a sister, June Smith Ayers; and a grandson, Brent Gilbert.
Those left to cherish her wonderful memory include two daughters, Billie Jean Jewell and her husband, Alvin, of Pineville and Dinah Sue Edwards and her husband, Doug, of Covel; three sons, Donnie Coleman and his wife, Billie Rae, of Sophia, Johnnie Coleman and his wife, Valeria, of Midway and William Coleman Jr. and his wife, Angela, of Herndon; three brothers, Jerry Smith of Nickelville, Ky., and Dallas Smith and Freddie Smith, both of Phelps, Ky.; seven sisters, Faye Sabitino and Della Rae Ashby, both of Columbus, Ohio, Barbara Byrd of Little Rock, Ark., Brenda Collins, Ruby Mitchell and Caroline Smith all of Phelps, Ky., and Patsy Belcher of Phyllis, Ky.; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by a host of friends and neighbors.
Service will be noon today at Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home, Princeton, with the Rev. Ricky Shrewsbury officiating. Interment will follow at Coleman-Edwards Family Cemetery, Lerona. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Audrey McKinney Goins, 72, expired Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley following a short illness.
Born Feb. 6, 1935, in Basin, she was the daughter of the late Frank Joseph McKinney and wife Mavis Whitt McKinney Huffman and stepdaughter of Uria Huffman.
Mrs. Goins retired from a career at Maryland National Bank in Baltimore, serving in the position of manager.
She was preceded in death by a son, Danny Lee Goins.
Family left to cherish her memory include her devoted husband of 54 years, Dorsey L. Goins Sr.; son, Dorsey L. Goins Jr. and wife, Jeannette, of Hampton, Va.,; her oldest sister, Katie Marie Chambers and husband, Jesse, of Essex, Md.; brother, Danny Richard McKinney and wife, Carolyn, of White Plains, Md.; sister Sandy Hannah and husband, Thomas, of Oceana; sister, Frankie Mullins and husband, Clifford, of North Carolina; grandsons Dorsey L. Goins II of Hampton, Daryl Goins of Savannah, Ga., and Nicholus Goins of Cockeysville, Md.; granddaughter, Laura Nicole Goins of Illinois; great-grandson Dorsey L. Goins III; and numerous uncles and aunts, nieces and nephews.
Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Maxwell Hill Road, Beckley, with Pastor Wanda Childs officiating.

Clyde Edward Helmandollar
Clyde Edward Helmandollar, 56, of Sophia, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, following a sudden illness.
Born at Iaeger on Nov. 13, 1950, he was the son of Jonell Stiltner of Indian Creek and the late Dillard Helmandollar.
Clyde was a former coal miner at Itmann mines. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the outdoors, and attended church at Ghent Church of God and Sunset Hills Missionary Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish his memory, other than his mother, Jonell Stiltner, are his wife of 38 years, Diniah Sue Blankenship Helmandollar; his daughter, Lora Lee Godbey of Beckley; his son, Marty Helmondollar and wife, Ida, of Sophia; three grandsons, Michael Ratcliff of Beckley, Colten Helmandollar of Sophia and Bradley Godbey of Beckley; three brothers, Carl Helmandollar and wife, Margie, of Georgia, Jerry Helmandollar and wife, Pam, of Abraham and Roger Helmondollar and wife, Missy, of Indian Creek; a sister, Benita Massey and husband, Randy, of Indian Creek; and several nieces, nephews and friends whom he loved dearly.
Clyde touched so many lives, he knew no strangers.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Philip Farrington officiating. Burial will follow at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

Loretta Ernestine Epperly Legg
OAK HILL — Loretta Ernestine Epperly Legg, 75, of Oak Hill, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Born Dec. 30, 1931, in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Ervin E. and Maude Martin Epperly.
Mrs. Legg was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church and a longtime employee of General Nutrition Corp.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jesse Jones; second husband, Edward Alton Legg; and a brother, Ervin Epperly.
Survivors include three children, Dianna Carter of Oak Hill, Penny Edwards of Winston-Salem and Edward Legg Jr. of Winston-Salem; four sisters, Polly McClung and husband, Russell, of Fayetteville, Drema Bowe of Oak Hill, Wandaleen Shyblosky and husband, Larry, of Crossville, Tenn., and Kay Allen and husband, Joe, of Clendenin; and two brothers, Jerry Epperly and wife, Judy, of Oak Hill and Larry Epperly and wife, Sharon, of Goshen, Ind. Also surviving are her six grandchildren, Shawn Carter, Jason Carter, Tiffany Carter, Michael Edwards, Jessica Edwards and Courtney Mabe; and a great-grandchild, Mia Carter.
Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Ellen L. File officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill,.

Grace Lee Prince
On Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, after a long and full life, Grace Lee Prince, of Beckley, passed away at the Doug and Lucy Bowers Hospice House. She was in her 98th year.
Grace Lee was born Jan. 20, 1909, at Summersville, the daughter of the late John and Nellie Alderson Evans. Two sisters and a brother also preceded her in death.
A member of the First Christian Church, Court House Square, Beckley, Grace Lee had served as a deacon, circle leader and was a member and past teacher of the Anchor Sunday School Class.
Grace Lee Prince was a joy to all who knew her and was a volunteer to many civic organizations. She was a member of the Beckley Woman’s Club and a member and past president of the Flowering Hills Garden Club.
In addition to her family, she was preceded in death by her husband, G. Wayne Prince.
Grace Lee was the beloved mother of Sandra Palen of Beckley and the dear grandmother of Julia Palen Wood and her husband, Evan, of Charlotte, N.C. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Service will be 2 p.m. today at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Donald R. Snyder officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may call noon until time of the service today.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

John Melbourne Shinaberry
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — John Melbourne Shinaberry, 86, of White Sulphur Springs and Alvon, passed away at 4:36 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at Allegheny Regional Hospital in Low Moor, Va., after an extended illness.
Born at Stony Bottom on Sept. 16, 1921, he was the son of Albert and Pearl Hedrick Shinaberry.
John was a graduate of Green Bank High School, Class of 1941. He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in White Sulphur Springs. During World War II, he served in the Merchant Marines. John retired after 30 years as a marine engineer on the Great Lakes. After his service on the Great Lakes, John built Paradise Campground near Blue Bend. This was John’s life; he loved the campground and all his campers. They meant everything to him.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers, Maxwell and Marshall Shinaberry.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Lee Shinaberry; sisters, Maxine Foe of Cass and Maydell Moore of Sebring, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Service will be 2 p.m. today at Paradise Campground with the Rev. Bobby McClintic officiating. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until time of service.
Interment will follow in Rosewood Cemetery, Lewisburg.
Pallbearers will be friends and family.

John Edgar Williams
ALDERSON — John Edgar Williams, 95, of Alderson, formerly of Falls View, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at the Brier Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Ronceverte, following a short illness.
Born July 30, 1912, at Blue Sulphur Springs, he was the son of the late Walter and Willie Knapp Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Mays and Vena Stevens.
Mr. Williams was a retired foreman, retiring from Union Carbide, Alloy, after 37 years of service. He was a member of Alderson Presbyterian Church and a former member of Falls View Presbyterian Church. Mr. Williams was an avid fisherman and hunter, and in later years enjoyed working in his yard and garden.
Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Florine Flint Williams; five nieces, Betty Jo Miller of Winchester, Va., Lola Level of Organ Cave, Karen Lobban of Alderson, Helen Randolph of Point Pleasant and Anne Crawford of Covington, Va.; six nephews, Otho Mays of Deshler, Ohio, James Mays of Mobile, Ala., Fred Mays of Charlton Heights, John Mays of Charlton Heights, Earl Flint Jr. of Daniels and Robert Mays of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and many great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.
Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson, with the Rev. BillyReed Wickline officiating. Burial will follow at Alderson Cemetery.
Friends may call 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
