Martha Ann Nemec Banks
UNION — Martha Ann Nemec Banks, 82, passed away Friday, March 16, 2007, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, after a sudden illness.
She was born in Morrilton, Ark., on Aug. 21, 1924, the daughter of the late Joseph Charles and Martha Scroggin Nemec.
She was a graduate of the University of Arkansas and attended the University of Arkansas School of Medicine.
She is survived by her husband of 60 happy years, James W. Banks, M.D.; five children, Martha Ann Sikarskie of Houghton, Mich., McRae C. Banks, Ph.D., of Holden, Mass., Caperton Hubbard of Fredericksburg, Va., Bettie Stammerjohn of Washington, Pa., and James W. Banks III, M.D., of St. Louis, Mo., and their spouses; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bettina Nemec Steele of North Little Rock, Ark.
A brother, Joseph Charles Nemec Jr., preceded her in death.
Marty was a member of Union Presbyterian Church, where she had served as an elder and in various offices of the Presbyterian Women. She was a life member of the Monroe County Historical Society, the Greenbrier Historical Society and a volunteer at the Monroe County Library. She was an avid reader, enjoyed spinning and weaving, playing bridge, working crossword puzzles and walking with our dog, Ginger.
A celebration of her life will be 1 p.m. Monday at Union Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Ron Obenchain officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy through donations to Union Presbyterian Church, the Monroe County Historical Society and the Monroe County Rescue Squad.

Betty Jane Beavers
COAL MOUNTAIN — Betty Jane Beavers, 73, died Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at McDowell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Gary.
Born April 12, 1933, at Ikes Fork, she was the daughter of the late Arther and Eula Mary Mullins Lester Riffe.
Mrs. Bea-vers was a homemaker and of the Freewill Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alex Beavers.
Survivors include a son, Walter Beavers; two daughters, Mary Dotson and Betty Jo Beavers; four granddaughters, Roxanne (Chuck) Puett, Kimberly (Ballard) Dixon Jr., Theresa Johnson and Lisa Beavers; two grandsons, John Beavers, and Kenny Dotson Jr.; and three great-grandchildren, Carly Puett, Dakota Dixon and Jessica Johnson.
At her request, the body was cremated.
A celebration of her life will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Roxanne and Chuck Puett’s home in Coal Mountain.

Carlos Eugene Belcher
SOUTH CHARLESTON — Carlos Eugene Belcher, 51, of South Charleston, formerly of Rupert, was called away to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 15, 2007, at Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division.
Born May 4, 1955, in Beckley, he was the son of the late Rev. William Clyde and Runa Belle Milam Belcher.
Carlos worked as an encoder technician at USPS.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Ward; a nephew, Marc Edward Zlotlowski; and a great-niece, Samantha Danielle Dials-Adkins.
Survivors include four sisters, Jeri Zlotkowski of Joppa, Md., Sharon Belcher Angle and husband, the Rev. Jim Angle, of Christiansburg, Va., Sandy Bailey of Ghent and Frances Sams and husband, George, of Beggs, Okla.; a brother, John Belcher of Beckley; four nieces, Danielle Dials of Cross Lanes, Shannon Robinson of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Tiffany and Stephanie Bailey, both of Charleston; several great-nieces and nephews; and best friend, Dominic McLain.
Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, Rainelle, with the Rev. John Milam officiating. Burial will follow at Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.

Daisy Jane Chapman
RAINELLE — Daisy Jane Chapman, 80, of Rainelle, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2007, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center following a short illness.
Mrs. Chapman was born July 1, 1926, in Fayette County, the daughter of the late Matt Foster and Betty Ann Crookshanks Sanford.
She was a homemaker and a member of Big Sewell Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry B. Chapman.
Surviving are a sister, Zada Mae Crookshanks and husband, Steward, of Rainelle; a brother, Wesley Sanford and wife, Velva, of Fairborn, Ohio; two nieces, Nancy Kaminski of Hines and Sylvia Sanford of Rainelle; a nephew, Mike Crookshanks of Lewisburg; and other nieces and nephews.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Smathers Funeral Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastors Kermit Hunter Jr. and Mike Tincher officiating. Burial will follow in Sims Cemtery, Rainelle.

Lucille Wilkerson Dempsey
FAYETTEVILLE — Lucille Wilkerson Dempsey, 84, of Fayetteville, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2007, at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill.
Born Oct. 4, 1922, at Minden, she was the daughter of the late Herman M. Wilkerson and Sarah Thomas Wilkerson.
Lucille was a member of Fayetteville United Methodist Church, a member of the Fayetteville American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Angel Group. She was a retired food service employee with the Fayette County Board of Education.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Dempsey; two sisters, Margaret Clark and Mildred Mullens; and a brother, Thomas Wilkerson.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Herbert L. Wilkerson and his wife, Linda, of Huntersville, N.C.; two grandchildren, Mark Wilkerson of Conway, S.C., and Sharon Carr and her husband, David, of Conway; two great-grandchildren, Jessica Carr and Morgan Carr, both of Conway; a brother, Herman Wilkerson of Charleston; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Service will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 19, at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Clare J. Sulgit-Horn officiating. Entombment will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Oak Hill.

Dorothy A. Gaylor
HICKORY, N.C. — Dorothy A. Gaylor, 67, of 2168 Zion Church Road, Hickory, went to be with the Lord at 9 a.m. Thursday, March 15, 2007, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born April 11, 1939, at Kanawha Falls, she was the daughter of the late Hubert H. Bourne and mother Gladys E. Ward Bourne Lane and Daddy David L. Lane.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Gay-lor; a brother, Hubert R. Bourne; two sisters, Genevieve E. Bourne and Drema E. Bourne Bennett; and three nephews, Charles E. Fitzwater, Raymond L. Bennett Jr. and Brian K. Hodge.
Mrs. Gaylor was of the Baptist faith and affiliated with Way of the Cross Baptist Church in Morganton, N.C. She lived most of her life in West Virginia and was a former resident of Washington, D.C., New York, South Carolina and North Carolina, where she recently made her home. She was a homemaker, a loving mother, grandmother, family member and caring friend.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary E. Hilton and companion, Michael L. Mullins, of Hickory; three sons, Aaron T. Gaylor and wife, Denise, of Longview, N.C., James W. Gaylor and wife, Betty, of Hickory and Nathan W. Gaylor and wife, Deonna, of Valdese, N.C.; three grandchildren, Tasha Brown of Hickory, Angel Gaylor of Longview and William Hilton of Hickory; two brothers, Roy A. Bourne and wife, Lillian, of Morgantown and David N. Lane of Hinton; two sisters, Delsie M. Hodge and husband, Bill, of Covington, Va., and Garnet M. Lilly and husband, Steve, of Fincastle, Va.; seven nephews; four nieces; and many extended family and friends.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 18, at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel, Hinton, with the Rev. Richard Ellington officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond Cemetery, Sandstone.

She always demonstrated genuine love and compassion to everybody she saw. May her memory live on in our hearts and our minds for many years to come.

Irene Mae Kelley Lawson, 74, of Josephine, died Thursday, March 15, 2007, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness.
Born May 14, 1932, at Frances, she was the daughter of the late Reuben and Hattie Dalton Kelley. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Susie Hardin, and her brothers, Robert, Dempsey and Lvanus Kelley.
Survivors include her daughters, Judy Bolen and husband, Doug, of Josephine, Debbie Sullivan and husband, William, of Perry, Fla., and Karen Lawson of St. Augustine, Fla.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Harold Hardin of Beckley; and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, March 18, at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Dan Coalson and the Rev. Roger Tolliver officiating. Burial will follow in Hannah Lilly Cemetery, Odd.

LEIVASY — Hester Stull, 85, of Leivasy, passed away at Summersville Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
She was born July 13, 1921, at Jettsville to the late Robert W. and Genny Elizabeth Viers Lilly.
She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church, Leivasy. She loved the outdoors, including fishing, farming, growing flowers and vegetables.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Brewster and Amy Jackson; and a brother, James Lilly.
Survivors include a son, Wayne Stull of Leivasy; two brothers, Clyde Willis Lilly of Nettie and Emery Lilly of Greenville, S.C.; and four sisters, Faye Bryant of Richwood, Anna Ruth Posey of Richwood, Edna Cutright of Richwood and Juanita O’Dell of Leivasy.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood, with Pastor David Acree officiating. Interment will be at Fields Cemetery, Nettie.
