Cheryl ‘Darlene’ Greene
Cheryl “Darlene” Greene was born June 9, 1955, in Beckley.
She was the 10th child born to the late Brownie Beatrice Lewis Greene and Morris Greene of Stanaford.
Darlene was raised in Stanaford. She attended New Era Baptist church for all of her early years and then in 1984 joined First Baptist Church, North Beckley, to be near her husband Ronald. She was an active member of both the church and the Sunday school. She loved working on and preparing all of the programs and bulletins for the many functions held at the church.
Darlene was united in marriage to Ronald Edward Peck Sr. in May 1973. They had happy years together and she always reminded Ronald that he was her “best friend.” To this union they had one wonderful, devoted and much beloved son, Ronald Jr. Ronald Jr. married Erica Swafford in March 1996 and from this union came Darlene’s two beloved grandchildren, Jessica and Cameron. No grandmother could love two children any more than Darlene loved these two. Anyone who knew Darlene knew the great love and pride that she had in her husband and family. Her life and conversations were always filled with the love she had for Jessica and Cameron, Ron Sr., Erica and Ron Jr. She surrounded herself and her home with their pictures and was always happy to share the many precious memories of the times that they had together.
Darlene was employed for 27-plus years by American Electric Power. She worked for many years in Beckley and then spent the later years of her career commuting to Bluefield in the position of meter reading supervisor. She made this commute rain or shine till her health forced her to stay home in August 2004.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Morris Greene Jr. and William Greene, and sisters Lois Legrand and Dorothy Tyler.
