Kathleen P. Bowes
BLUEFIELD — Kathleen P. Bowes, 83, formerly of White Sulphur Springs, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at Maples Nursing Home in Bluefield.
Miss Bowes was born Nov. 27, 1922, in White Sulphur Springs, and was the daughter of the late Blanchard Sr. and Rose Gallagher Bowes.
She was a resident of White Sulphur Springs for most of her life and was a caregiver.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by a brother, Edsel Bowes; a half brother, Wilford Bowes; and stepmother, Mary Bowes.
Survivors include half sisters, Betty Tuday of Severy, Kan., Anna Fowler of Catawba, Va., Laura Jane Pitsenbarger of White Sulphur Springs, Shirley Sizemore of Covington, Va., and Jeanette Binson of Harrisburg, Pa.; half brothers, Blanchard Bowes Jr. of White Sulphur Springs, Charles Bowes of Wendell, Mass., and Robert Bowes of Selma, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Rosewood Cemetery, Lewisburg, with the Rev. Mark Shafer officiating. Burial will follow.

Born Oct. 9, 1948, in Beckley, she was the daughter of James M. Sparks of Princeton and the late Velma Hall Sparks.
She was a member of Silver Springs Baptist Church in Princeton. She was a Princeton High School graduate and attended Bluefield Business School. She had been a resident of Princeton since 1957, moving here from Mullens.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday, March 24, at Blue Ridge Mausoleum Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Fred Lovell officiating. Entombment will follow.

Miss Isabel M. Farris, 91, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at her home.
Born Sept. 1, 1914, in Beckley, she attended Beckley schools and was a 1933 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, where she was a member of the school orchestra and a cheerleader.
As a lifetime member of St. Francis deSales Catholic Church, she served as a past grand regent of the Catholic Daughters. She was a partner in the Gus Farris Department Store where she worked for 65 years until the closing of the store in 1991. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed traveling.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Ja-mile Farris of Beckley; brothers, Felix P. Farris, Joseph F. Farris and Dr. Frederick P. Farris; and a sister, Alice M. Lynch, all of Beckley.
She is survived by brothers, Elmer J. Farris and Dr. James T. Farris, and sisters, Helen C. Hayes and Evelyn A. Farris, all of Beckley; a sister, Florence M. Boisse of Manchester, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, March 24, at St. Francis deSales Catholic Church, Beckley, with the Rev. Samuel S. Sacus officiating. Rite of committal will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Minnie B. Crosier Fitzsimmons
HINTON — Minnie Belle Crosier Fitzsimmons, 91, of 312 1/2 Third Ave., Hinton, died at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2006, in Summers Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.
Born Oct. 19, 1914, at Union, she was the daughter of the late Cyrus Peck and Minnie Zula Hoover Crosier.
Crosier, as she was known, was a graduate of Union High School and moved to Hinton to attend the Hinton Hospital School of Nursing. After her matriculation from nursing school, she was a graduate nurse for Drs. Bigony and Stokes in Hinton. While serving their office, she assisted in many home visits while they practiced in Summers County. She then went to work for Hinton Hospital, and remained there her entire career until the hospital closed in 1977. Crosier also served the heath care needs for many shut-ins while her health permitted. She was a member and active parishioner at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hinton, and served as an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist, a member of the Altar Society, the Welcoming Committee and the Women of St. Patrick. She was a former member of the Catholic Daughters and the Hinton Hospital Nurses’ Club. Crosier also enjoyed making wreaths and candy for many people during the holiday season.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe G. Fitz-simmons, on Jan. 1, 1968; five brothers, Virgil, William, Marston, Clinton and C.P. Crosier; and two sisters, Zula Jane Crosier and Glenna Poteet.
Survivors include a son, Dick Fitzsimmons and wife, Carol Anne, of Birmingham, Ala.; two grandsons, Scott and Eric Fitzsimmons, both of Birmingham; a granddaughter, Jill Meador and husband, John, of Birmingham; two great-grandchildren, David Fitzsimmons and Keating Meador, both of Birmingham; a sister, Virginia Core of Huntington; a very special sister-in-law, Virginia Crosier of Union; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends very dear to her.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 p.m. Friday, March 24, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Hinton, with the Rev. Arthur Bufogle as celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow in Restwood Memorial Gardens, Hinton.

Velma Gunnoe
Velma Gunnoe, 75, of MacArthur, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 22, 2006.
Born March 31, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Social and Martha Rutherford Brooks.
Velma was a member of Open Door Church in Shady Spring. Throughout her life she took part in the ladies auxiliary and sang in the choir.
In addition to her parents, Velma was preceded in death by four brothers, Marshall, Curtis, R.B. and Bill Brooks; and two sisters, Ruth Brooks and Opal Poland.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Charles Glenn Gunnoe; two sons, Larry G. Gunnoe and his wife, Rebecca, of Angier, N.C., and Wayne Gunnoe and his wife, Joan, of Winterville, N.C.; two daughters, Kathy Russell and her husband, Rusty, of Wilson, N.C., and Kimberly Fox and her husband, Ray, of Brandywine; her grandchildren, Tiffany Gunnoe, Jennifer Russell, Jonathan Fox, Hayden Fox and Anthony Gunnoe; a brother, Sturgille Brooks; a sister, Charlotte McKenzie; and several nieces and nephews.

Alan Jay Holliday, 48, of Beckley, died Tuesday, March 21, 2006, in a local hospital after a sudden illness.
Born July 24, 1957, in Beckley, he was the son of the late John L. Holliday and Peggy Carter Holliday of Beckley.
Mr. Holliday was a 1975 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, was a member of First Baptist Church, Beckley, and a former member of Beckley-Raleigh County Jaycees. He was currently employed as an advertising executive with Lamar Advertising Co. and was a former insurance agent with Raleigh Insurance Agency in Beckley. Mr. Holliday was a lifelong resident of Beckley.
Survivors besides his mother include his wife, Kathy Sheets Holliday; two sons, Alan J. Holliday II and his wife, Jillian, and Michael Cameron Holliday, all of Beckley; grandson, Tyler Alexander Holliday of Beckley; grandmother, Pauline Rand of Beckley; father and mother-in-law, Ray and Viola Sheets of Stephenson; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Jim Benedum of Bridgeport; and nieces, Jamie, Courtney and Kelsey Benedum.

Evelyn Marie Lilly, 78, of Ghent, went home to be with the Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at Princeton Community Hospital following a brief illness.
Born Dec. 6, 1927, at McComas, she was the daughter of the late James Taylor and Veda Mae Lusk Taylor.
Mrs. Lilly was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, gardening and flower arranging.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Ernest Earl Lilly; two sons, Darris Lilly and Woodrow Lilly; four brothers, James Taylor, Wesley Taylor, Ba-sil Taylor and Frank-ie Taylor; two sisters, Esther Lilly and Evelyn Bennett; and a stepson, Daniel Lilly.
Survivors include five sons, Finley Lilly and his wife, Carolyn, of Fort Lawn, S.C., Gary Lilly and his wife, Joyce, of Ghent, Jerry Lilly and his wife, Arlene, of Cool Ridge, Steven Lilly of Princeton and Ernest D. Lilly and his wife, Trina, of Ghent; three daughters, Louise Johnson of Princeton, Evelyn DeWeese of Marriottsville, Md., and Joann Cooper and her husband, Doug, of Ghent; three stepsons, Donald Lilly of North Carolina, Dayton Lilly and his wife, Penny, of Princeton and Roger Lilly and his wife, Linda, of Montcalm; two brothers, Samuel Taylor of Weyanoke and Jackie Taylor of Princeton; three sisters, Geraldine Turner of Princeton, Georgie Hall of Tampa, Fla., and Margaret McKinney of Matoaka; 19 grandchildren, 14 stepgrandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. She will also be greatly missed by her best friend, Buckwheat Lilly.

CHARMCO — Lora Venus Miller, 98, was called to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at the home of her son, William Geary Miller of Orient Hill.
Born Sept. 5, 1907, at Runa, she was a daughter of the late Corne-lius W. and Sadie Hum-phries Dor-sey.
Mrs. Mill-er was a retired cook for Nicholas County Schools, a member of Orient Hill Baptist Church and its Mission Circle, and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Kelly Miller, in 1970; three sons, Lloyd, Carl and Alphus O’Dell; a daughter, Doris Adams; and a brother, Bill Dorsey.
She is survived by a very large and loving family.
These include five daughters, Ferol Masken of Rainelle, Irene Walker of Orient Hill, Jane Johnson of Orient Hill, Talma White of Charmco and Wanda Cade of Chicago, Ill.; two sons, Geary Miller of Orient Hill and Roy Miller of Rolla, Mo.; three sisters, Lizzie Bennett of Pool, Velma Beam of Quinwood and Almada Sietz of Baltimore, Md.; 27 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

RICHWOOD — Althea M. Morrison, 95, a lifelong resident of Richwood, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 17, 2006, in Las Vegas, Nev.
She was born May 8, 1911, in Webster County to the late Harry F. Blake and Ollie Cutter Blake.
Althea was the widow of Joe N. Morrison and was preceded in death by her son, Sherlock Morrison, and a brother, Keith Blake.
Survivors include two daughters, Lela Cogar of Las Vegas and Patricia Morrison of Westminister, Md.; a son, Bill Morrison and his wife, Francine, of Hershey, Pa.; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces, who will miss her; and four sisters, Lela Givens of Upper Glade, Wilma Wright of Niles, Ohio, Irene Leininger of Salem, Ohio, and Anna Jean Cowen of Salem.

Born Aug. 21, 1939, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Vern and Velma Garten Lucas.
Mrs. Ni-chols was a member of Joseph Baptist Church. She enjoy-ed cooking and caring for others.
In addition to her parents, her first husband, Joe Lusk, and her second husband, Basil Nichols, preceded her in death.

FOREST, Miss. — Ralph Williams, 72, formerly of Eccles, entered into his eternal life on Saturday, March 18, 2006. John 14:27: Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled neither let it be afraid.
He was born Jan. 19, 1934, at Cranberry, the son of the late Ba-sil Ray and Lettie Margaret Stewart Will-iams.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Bobby Ray; an infant son, Dwight Ralph; a daughter, Annette; and a nephew, Lee R. Venable Jr.
Mr. Williams was a member of Walnut Grove United Pentecostal Church in Walnut Grove, Miss. He had served in the U.S. Marine Corps for eight years during the Korean Conflict. He retired in 2001 as a truck driver with McLain Trucking after 38 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Williams; three daughters, Sherry Martin of Richmond, Va., Judy Price of Hattiesburg, Miss., and Nancy Barnes of Forest; two sons, Larry Williams of Key West, Fla., and Eddie Williams of Meridian, Miss.; six sisters, Nancy Crowder of Prosperity, Peggy Venable of Hague, Va., Margaret Roop of Beckley, Linda Crouch of Beckley, Betty Goad of Mount Airy, N.C., and Cathy Williams of Prosperity; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five nephews; nine nieces; five great-nephews; nine great-nieces; and one great-great-niece.
He will be remembered for his love of the Lord, his family, his love of life and laughter. He will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him. He will forever be in the hearts of his wife, his “children,” his “grandchildren,” and his sisters and all of their “children.”
Service was 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, in Forest, Miss.
An open invitation memorial service will be 5 p.m. today at the Church of God Family Worship Center on Pinewood Drive, Beckley.
