Beatrice Irene Hughes

MT. NEBO — Beatrice Irene Hughes, 92, of Mt. Nebo, died Tuesday, June 12, 2012.

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2012, in the White Funeral Home at Summersville with Pastor Rick Swearingen officiating. Interment will follow in Beam-Hughes Family Cemetery at Mt. Nebo.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Van B. James

ALDERSON — Van B. James, 75, of Alderson, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at CAMC Memorial Division Charleston.

Van was the former operator and owner of Asbury James Cable Co. and Chipper Inc. He was a member of the Montgomery Baptist Church Montgomery. And he also attended the Hughes Creek Community Church, Hugheston.  

Van was preceded in death by his wife Nancy K. James.

Surviving Van is his wife Carol Skaggs James of Hugheston; daughter, Yolanda J. Bostic of Alderson; sons, Van B. James II and his wife Terri of Alderson, Shawn L. James and his wife Susan of Summersville; ten grandchildren and 11 great Grandchildren.

Services will be Friday June 15th, 2012 at noon at The Montgomery Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel U.S. 60 East at London, with the Rev. C.J. Rider and Pastor Gary Tucker officiating. Entombment will follow the services in the Mausoleum Chapel.

Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the Mausoleum Chapel at the cemetery in London.

There will be an additional Memorial Service 11 a.m. Sunday, June 17th, 2012, at the Hughes Creek Community Church Hugheston, W.Va., with Pastor Gary Tucker officiating.

MT. LOOKOUT — Alice Lee Kincaid, 80, of Mt. Lookout, died Wednesday, June 13, 2012.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2012, in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church at Mt. Lookout. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

THOMASVILLE, N.C. — Herman F. Lawhorn, 89, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2012.

Kelli L. Williams Mickey

Mrs. Kelli L. Williams Mickey, 35, of Beckley, died Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.

Born April 3,1977, in Beckley, she was the daughter of Frank E. and Deborah L. Christian Williams of Beckley.

Kelli was a medical assistant and a member of Champion Christian Center, Charlotte, N.C.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Austin Williams; maternal grandparents, Charles and Elvene Christian and paternal grandparents, Patty and Alton Williams and Merriman Wright.

In addition to her loving parents, those left to cherish precious memories are her husband, Shawn Mickey; loving children, Kiara R. Mickey and Shealyn J. Mickey, both of Beckley; her devoted brother, Patrick E. Williams of Beckley; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be noon, Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Heart of God Ministries, 1703 S. Kanawha Street, Beckley, with Bishop Fred T. Simms officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

Jeremiah J. Moore

OWINGS MILL, Md. — On June 12, 2012, Jeremiah Jay Moore of Owings Mills, died in the loving arms of his wife, Linda, daughter Keisha, son in law Hiram Maldonado of Owings Mills, and three special grandchildren who helped care for him during his illness, Matthew, Joshua and Haylee.

He was the son of the late James Moore and the late Laura Grace Green. He was the step-son of the late Rev. Sterling E. Green.

Mr. Moore has a son Jeremy Lamont Moore of Beckley. He was survived by brothers Raymond and his wife Marsha Russell of Columbus, Ohio, James G. and his wife Sandra Moore of Randallstown, Md., Arthur and and his wife Son Moore of Randallstown, Reginald and his wife Cheryl Green of Beckley, and sisters Ina Jo and her husband Nathan Hall of Killeen, Texas and Erva Lynn Suarez of Montclair, N.J. He is also also survived by eight grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Moore is predeceased by a sister Gertrude G. Joyce.

Mr. Moore was the owner and operator of a tractor trailor until his illness, he ministered in music with Children of the King and Harmony of Praises, Mr. Moore enjoyed traveling, camping and spending time with his family.

The family will receive friends at the Northwest Baptist Church, 300 Westminster Road, Reisterstown, Md., on Friday, June 15, 2012, from noon until the time of the service at 1 p.m. Interment at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.

June Wriston Moore

FAIRBORN, Ohio — June Wriston Moore, of Fairborn, died of natural causes on June 11, 2012, at Dayspring Care Center in Fairborn.

She was the daughter of Dr. Robert Wriston and Minnie Davis Wriston and was born at her parent’s home on Neville Street in Beckley, W.Va., on July 11, 1915.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Donald Moore, her parents, three sisters, Mary Alice Rizos, Marjorie Wriston File and Martha Vane Wriston and a nephew, Robert G. Rizos.  

June graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and Roanoke Business College and worked during World War II for a government agency in Washington, D.C. She worked with her husband for many years in the J.D. Moore Insurance Agency in Fairborn. She was an avid reader and world traveler and was a loyal fan of the Cincinnati Reds. She and her husband attended many games at the old Crosley Field and proudly obtained two seats when the stadium was demolished. She was always interested in the lives of her nieces and nephews and their families and never missed a wedding or graduation.  

June is survived by her nieces and nephews, Martha Rizos Stafford of Pollock Pines, Calif., Susan File Payne of Beckley and Charleston, S.C., William H. File III, Robert N. File and John L. File, all of Beckley, W.Va., and eight grandnieces and grandnephews.

She will be interred in Mausoleum A at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley, on Thursday, June 14, 2012, following a private family service.

Brian Murphy

On Saturday, June 9th, 2012, our cherished, Brian Murphy of Forrest Avene, Beckley passed away at his home following a long illness. He was 44 years of age.

The youngest of four children, Brian Keith Murphy was born on May 14th, 1968, in Beckley. He is the son of the late Betty Fox Murphy and Earl W. Murphy and his wife, Ruby of Beckley.

Brian was lifelong resident of Forrest Avenue. He was formerly employed by Bob Evans.   

In addition to his father, Earl and Ruby, Brian leaves his daughter, Joann Palmer and her husband, Bobby of Prosperity; grandchildren, Savannah and Eric; his sister and brothers, Shelia Canterberry of Beckley, Sherman Murphy and his wife, Pam of Taylorsville, N.C. and Audie Murphy of Beckley; a step brother, Robert Duncan of Cool Ridge also survives.  

Committal services will be Friday, June 15th, at 1 p.m. at the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with Rev. F.D. Sexton officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Melton Mortuary. Those wishing to attend the committal services are asked to meet at the mortuary by 12:30 p.m.

Brian’s special nephews, Sherman and Jeremy Murphy, George and Luke Canterberry, and A.J. Murphy will carry him to his rest.

Brian has battled health problems for many years. And so now we, Brian’s family, leave him with the Lord, “That peace, that passeth all understanding.” He was loved by all…

John Edward ‘Ed’ ‘Odgie’ Ratliff

NETTIE — John Edward “Ed,” “Odgie” Ratliff, 24, of Davis Ridge Road, died Tuesday, June 12, 2012.

Carl Lewis Richmond Jr.

Lewis Richmond Jr., 48, formerly of Coal City, passed away June 11, 2012, in Morgantown.

Carl was born November 18, 1963, in District Heights, Md., to Carl Lewis Richmond Sr. and Shelia Marie Deweese Richmond.

He served his country proudly in the United States Army.

Carl enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews as well as attending their sporting events. He was an avid baseball fan especially the “Cubs.” His favorite football team was the Chicago Bears. He was a graduate of Independence High School.

Carl was a carpenter by trade.

He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Sara Beth Richmond, grandparents Helen and Alvie Richmond, and Dale and Dicie Deweese, as well as a host of aunts and uncles.

In addition to his parents, those left to cherish his memory include his brothers, Donald Richmond and wife, Bonnie of Beckley and Gary Richmond of Morgantown; sisters, Dedra Blankenship of Morgantown, Kim Stuchell and husband, Bryan of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; 11 nieces and nephews, Justin, Jerrica, Jacob, Jaycie Blankenship, Christopher, Nicole and Paige Richmond, Branden, Bethany, Bryanna, and Brenten Stuchell; a great-niece Jada Richmond; a close friend on the family, Kevin Blankenship; extended family and a host of friends.

Services will be held on Saturday June 16th, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Blue Ridge Funeral Home in Beckley, with Pastor Don Kelly officiating. Following the services he will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

His nephews will be serving as pallbearers.

Matthew Lacy Sizemore, infant son of Christina Sizemore of Covel and Kenneth Orndorff of Wyoming, became an angel on Tuesday, June 5, 2012.

Matthew was preceded in death by a great-grandfather, William Orndorff and great-grandparents, Bonnie Perry and Lester Compton.

In addition to his parents, those left to cherish Matthew’s memory include his grandparents, Herman and Mary Sizemore of Itmann and William and Lora Compton of Wyoming; his great-grandparents, Herman and Margaret Light of Itmann and Kay Orndorff of Pineville; and four uncles, Jason Sizemore of Covel, Justin Sizemore of Itmann, Lonnie Orndorff of Pineville and Samuel Compton of Wyoming.

A graveside service to celebrate Matthew’s life will be 1 p.m., Friday, June 15, 2012, at Lusk Family Cemetery, Herndon Heights, with the Rev. Vernon Siers officiating.

Norma Lee Sumpter Tichenor

MOSSY — On June 13th, 2012, our beloved mother and grandmother, Norma Lee Sumpter Tichenor of Mossy passed away.

Norma was devoted to her family and will be sadly missed.

Norma was born October 14, 1931, in Kingston, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Raymond Cary and Retta Belle Sumpter.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hope O. Tichenor, sister, Marie Sumpter, brothers, Ray Ora Sumpter, Raymond Darrell Sumpter, Eugene Kenneth Sumpter and Paige Sumpter.

Those left to cherish her memory include sons Eddie Tichenor and companion Patsy Patton of Clifton Forge, Va., Ted Tichenor and companion Wendy Noye of Mossy; six grandchildren, Lisa Williams and husband Wayne Williams of Raleigh, N.C., Yvonne Campbell and husband Stoney Campbell of Vinton, Va., Fleming Tichenor of Mossy, Dustin Tichenor of Mossy, Cary Tichenor and wife Heather of Lynchburg, Va. and Sara Tichenor of Roanoke, Va. Also surviving are five great grandchildren, Jordan and Samantha Williams of Raleigh, N.C., Zane and Olivia Campbell of Vinton, Va. and Aubriana Tichenor of Tuscon, Ariz., and Bill Sumpter of Missouri.
