Betty Jo Watson Maupin

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — Betty Jo Watson Maupin, 80, passed away Friday, May 3, 2013.

An Eastern Star memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, White Sulphur Springs, with the Rev. Ken Peters officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Lacy Franklin Morgan

BAILEYSVILLE — Lacy Franklin Morgan, 95, of Baileysville, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time. Calfee Funeral and Cremation Service is serving the Morgan family.

Charley A. Placidi

TAYLOR, Mich. — Charley A. Placidi, 93, of Taylor, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2013, following a short illness.

Born March 5, 1920, he was the son of the late Placido and Rose Placidi. 

Mr. Placidi was formerly of Helen and a graduate of Mark Twain High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division. He was wounded on D-Day during the invasion of Normandy. He was a Purple Heart recipient. He retired from the Cadillac Division of General Motors in 1989.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Julie Sutyak Placidi; one daughter, Denise Lilly; four brothers, Geno Placidi, Lado Placidi, Pete Placidi and Virgil Placidi; three sisters, Edith Placidi, Lena Placidi and Mary Placidi.

Those left to cherish his memory include one daughter, Gina Motil and her husband Mark of Franklin, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Ashley Lilly Smyth, Aaron Lilly, Kristen Motil and Eric Motil; and several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with his wishes, the body has been cremated and will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley at a later date.
