Larry Kenneth ‘Buck’ Bailey

PANTHER — Larry Kenneth “Buck” Bailey, 49, died Monday, April 22, 2013.

Service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at Greenbrier Freewill Baptist Church, Greenbrier, with the Rev. Lawyer Bailey Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Walter Lambert Cemetery, Panther.

Haven L. Chinault

PETERSTOWN — Haven L. Chinault, age 90, passed away Monday, April 22, 2013, at REX Hospital in Raleigh, NC, after a brief illness.

Born September 3, 1922, in Rainelle, he was the son of the late Lonnie and Lottie King Chinault.

Haven was a member of the Peterstown Missionary Baptist Church for the past 58 years where he served in various positions. He retired in 1987 from the Celanese Corporation after 38 years of service. After he retired, Haven spent several years traveling around the United States with his wife and particularly enjoyed his six trips to Alaska.

Haven always loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman and hiker of the Appalachian Trail. Haven served his country for three years in Europe in the U.S. Army during WWII and rose to rank of staff sergeant.

In addition to his parents Haven was preceded in death by his sister Loretta Hartley. Survivors include his wife of 65 years Allyne May Boggs Chinault; three sons Craig Chinault and wife Barbie of Derwood, MD; Neil Chinault and wife Chuckie of Cary, NC; Dale Chinault and wife Dee of Fort Mill, SC; grandchildren Lisa Schreiner, Sharon Young, Lauren Chinault, Alena Chinault, Diana Chinault, Melissa Chinault; great-grandchildren Sydney Schreiner, Bryson Schreiner, Adam Young and Alissa Young.

Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown, with Rev. Jon Jennings officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Sam Black Church, WV.

ALDERSON — Phyllis Allene Cline, 73, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013.

Nellie Marie Forren

LEWISBURG — Nellie Marie Forren, 73, of Lewisburg, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013, in the Greenbrier Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Fairlea.

Born December 15, 1939, at Beelick Knob, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie E. and Ella J. Smith Forren.

Marie was a Christian and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Lewisburg. Her favorite hymn was “Amazing Grace” and she could be heard singing throughout the halls of the manor. Marie will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Fred, Vearl, Charles and Clinton Forren, and three sisters, Thelma Sproles, Laura Forren and Betty Bailey.

Survivors include one brother, Joseph Forren and wife Florence of Lewisburg; four sisters, Gaye Pope of Rock Falls, IL, Mae Young of Lebanon, OH, Mildred Bowyer and husband Charles of Danese and Leta Hann of Lewisburg; three sisters-in-law, Frances Baugh of Danese, Edna Forren of Illinois and Audrey Forren of Wyoming County; a devoted caregiver and friend, Libby Kashola of Crawley; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Smathers Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jonathan Comer officiating. Burial will follow in the Patton Memorial Cemetery at Meadow Bridge.

James H. Guilliams

James H. Guilliams (Jim) of Beckley passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at the VA Medical Center.

He was born March 9, 1923, in Stanaford, W.Va., son of the late John and Rosanna Lunsford Guilliams.

Jim retired as a Tech Sgt. from the U.S. Air Force with over 21 years of service and as a Staff Sgt. from the U.S. Army with over three years of service. During WWII he was in the 508th Parachute Infantry (82nd Airborne) and a Bronze Star recipient.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, Pete and Oakey, three sisters, Geneive, Louise, and Jewel.

Survivors include two brothers Danny and Bill, one sister Betty, five sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Mary, David and Barbara, Gary and Caryn, Sean and Crystal, Michael and Rebecca, two daughters and a son-in-law, Tina Baxter, Paula and Ted Gardner. He is also survived by grandchildren, Hannah, Michael, Samantha, Clay, Brandon, Michael, Tyler, Benjamin, Molly, Morgan, Lance and Logan. He was loved by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Melton Mortuary, 1200 Harper Road, Beckley, by Pastor Frank James.

Friends and family are welcome to pay their respects from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the same day.

Lester Darrel Hanshew

RAMSEY — Lester Darrel Hanshew, 73, of Ramsey, went home to be with our Lord Jesus, Wednesday, April 24, 2013, following a short illness.

Darrel was born May 18, 1939, in Danese, W.Va.; he was the son of the late Jack and Bertha Hanshew.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years Evelyn, and sisters Jacquoline and Regina.

Darrel was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ most of his adult life. Darrel served in the U.S. Army in 1959. He was a coal miner for 33 years. He was a faithful husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Darrel loved hunting, fishing and playing cards with his family.

Survivors to cherish his memory include his children Debra and Gary Martin, Leslie and husband James Simms and son Ivan and Debbie Hanshew; brothers Bub and Dorothy, Danny and wife Sue and Sam and Debbie. Seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Ansted with Pastor Danny Legg officiating. Burial will follow in the Fox Cemetery at Ramsey.

Juanita Miller Thomas

UNION — Juanita Miller Thomas, age 87, of Union, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at home.

Born June 20, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Roy Miller and the late Lucy Mann Miller Ferguson and granddaughter of the late Elmer and Nettie Copeland and the late Lewis and Laura Cummings Miller.

Born and educated in Monroe County, near Rock Camp, she pursued other courses in Europe and other states in Language and Arts. Juanita was always active in the communities she lived in. She was a leader in the Girl Scout Association for many years, receiving several awards for her services. She was a member of the Military “Woman’s Club,” helping military families and hospitals, and also a member of the Indian Creek Quilt Club. For a time, she had worked as a Substitute Teacher of Special Education in Florida, while selling Real Estate. She was a life member of the Auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force Association; working with the American Youth Activities, helping the youth of American military families adjust to living overseas.

Juanita made many friends in her travels around the world. During the 1990s she assisted actress Whoopie Goldberg while filming the movie “Eddie,” featuring the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets and New York Nicks.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Thomas, daughter, Lynn Thomas Nivens, three brothers, Mickey, Elvin and Ralph Miller, and one sister, Jean Miller.

Survivors include one brother, Randolph Miller and wife Edna of Union, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown, with Rev. Walter Ellison officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Cemetery, Wikel, W.Va.

Lyle Earnest Williams

ALDERSON — Lyle Earnest Williams, 74, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at his home after a long illness.

Born Jan. 8, 1939, in Greenbrier County and was the son of the late Leslie Coe and Lula Elizabeth Cadle Williams.

Mr. Williams was a lifelong resident of Greenbrier County, member of the Baptist faith, and was a mechanic.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, James (Dale) Williams.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys M. Williams of Alderson; three sons, Kenneth Lyle Williams and wife, Suzanne, of Clintonville, Preston Lee Williams of Alderson and Matthew L. Williams and wife, Millie, of Alderson; two sisters, Gladys Jones of Lewisburg and Marjie Cox of Bellwood, Ala.; grandson, Brandon Orville Lee and fiancee Heather Reynolds of Ronceverte; and great-grandson Brody Lee of Ronceverte.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013, at the Longanacre Funeral Home, Ft. Spring, with the Rev. Frank Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Asbury Cemetery, Asbury.
