Laura Jane ‘Lottie’ Buzzard Barker

Laura Jane “Lottie” Buzzard Barker died Feb. 7, 2013.

Gertrude Mae Bragg

TIOGA — Gertrude Mae Bragg, 76, of Tioga, passed away Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, in Delphia Cemetery, Tioga, with the Rev. Shawn Bragg officiating. Interment will be in the cemetery.

Simons-Coleman Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.



Raymond C. Delp

CEDAR HILL, Texas — On November 25, 1926, Raymond Cromwell Delp was born in a small rural town named Stotesbury, in the mountains of southern West Virginia. He was the fifth child of Robert Lee Delp and Cynthia DeEtta (Truitt) Delp who produced thirteen children. Raymond is survived by one brother, Elmer Delp, of Beckley, WV, and one sister Janet Caulder, of Fairmont, NC.

During his school years, he attended Mark Twain High School and Matoaka Junior High before enlisting in the U.S. Navy on November 24, 1942, one day before his sixteenth birthday. He served in World War II as a Seabee in the 72nd Construction Battalion for three years before returning home to marry Chloe Roverta Hornsby on October 5, 1946.

Raymond worked thirty-eight years in the coal fields of West Virginia before retiring due to a mining accident at the age of fifty-eight. The last twenty-nine years he has enjoyed time with his family as well as fishing and bowling, rolling at least one perfect score. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Mavericks, Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, and West Virginia Mountaineers. He resided with his wife in Cedar Hill, TX, near Trinity Church, where they are members and sang in the choir.

Ray is survived by his wife, Chloe, and their four children: Carole, married to Gerald Whittington of Greenville, MS; Randy Delp and wife, Terry, of Cedar Hill, TX; Vicki, married to Michael O’Neal of West Monroe, LA; and Ramona Gail, married to Philip Toven of Desoto, TX.

Raymond was the patriarch of nine grandchildren: Sherry Forbes, Elizabeth City, NC; Mitzi Hunter, Grace, MS; Jennifer Portera, Oxford, MS, Kevin Delp, Cedar Hill, TX; Michael O’Neal II and Andrea Steffins, West Monroe, LA; Kim Johnson, Lancaster, TX; Angela Johnson, Edmond, OK, and Christa Tracy, Dallas, TX.

He was also survived by fourteen great-grandchildren: Briley and Braden Forbes; Tanner and Parker Hunter; Liza Whitt and Owen Portera; Mason and Ragen Delp; Michael David III and Julia O’Neal; Victoria, Katheryn, Alexandra, and Caroline Steffins.

Ray and Chloe have produced a generation of Musicians, Doctors, Nurses, Businessmen/women, Business Owners, Ministers, and Educators, all of which are actively serving the Lord.

In October 8, 2011, the family celebrated Ray and Chloe Delp’s 65th Anniversary. At his passing, their four children have collectively been married 167 years. Their grandchildren have collectively been married 114 years. Including Ray and Chloe’s 66 years of marriage, the total years of married life of Ray and Chloe’s family is 347 years.

Raymond Delp left this world to be with Jesus on February 6, 2013. On February 12, 2013, the Delp family gathers with their friends to celebrate the life and legacy of our hero as we pay tribute to a great patriarch who now rests with his fathers.

Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at Jaynes Memorial Chapel in Duncanville, Texas. Visitation with the family is 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, February 11, at Jaynes Chapel.



Raymond Flemings

ETHEL — Raymond Flemings, 68, of Ethel, died Feb. 7, 2013.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at Honaker Funeral Home of Logan with Pastor Josh Vanhook officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Godby. Friends may call on the family from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Phillip Goff, 46, of Lester, passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2013.

Sonja Ann Gwinn

Sonja Ann Gwinn, 57, of Beckley entered into rest on February 7, 2013, in Belva, WV.

Born on June 16, 1955, in Montgomery, WV, she was the daughter of the late Hubert and Georgia Pritt Dozier.

Sonja was a member of the Grace Community Church at Lanark.

Survivors include her loving husband, Steven Gwinn, of Beckley; and her sisters Flora Montero of Austinburg, OH, Margaret Copeland of Belva, Bonnie Trimbath of Geneva, OH, and Lynn Elliott of Cannelton.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Yvonne Sue ‘Bonnie’ Tyree

Yvonne Sue “Bonnie” Tyree, 74, of Midway went to see her Jesus on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, in an Ocala, Florida, hospital following a long illness.

Born March 7, 1938, in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Arnold and Edith Burnside Miller.

Bonnie loved life, she enjoyed traveling, eating out, and just being with her family, she was a friend to everyone she met.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her son Mark Allen Tyree, her brother Bob Miller.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 47 years Roy Tyree, her son Roger Tyree of Crab Orchard, 2 daughters Lisa Hodge and husband Lewis of Mabscott, and Mary Paidron and her husband Lupie of Mt. Airy, NC. Six grandchildren and four great-grandsons, her sister Sue Lacrosse and husband Dan of Georgia, and two very special family members Barbara Tyree, and Michael Cozart, and two nephews and one niece, and a host of dearly loved friends who will miss her greatly.

Services celebrating the life of our beloved Bonnie will be held 2 p.m. Monday, February 11, 2013, in the chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie Bell officiating. Following the service Bonnie will be laid to rest in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Friends may gather with the family from noon until service time Monday at the funeral home.

CLEAR FORK — Dempsey “Demp” Walls, 85, of Clear Fork, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013.

Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, with the Rev. Allen Blankenship officiating. In keeping with the family’s wishes he will be cremated. Friends may gather with the family from 5 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

CRAIGSVILLE — Alma Grace Weese, 101, of Craigsville, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, in Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood, with the Rev. Tim Skaggs officiating. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Cowen. Visitation will be from 11 to 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, in the funeral home.
