He was the fifth child of Robert Lee Delp and Cynthia DeEtta (Truitt) Delp who produced thirteen children. Raymond is survived by one brother, Elmer Delp, of Beckley, WV, and one sister Janet Caulder, of Fairmont, NC.
During his school years, he attended Mark Twain High School and Matoaka Junior High before enlisting in the U.S. Navy on November 24, 1942, one day before his sixteenth birthday. Raymond worked thirty-eight years in the coal fields of West Virginia before retiring due to a mining accident at the age of fifty-eight. The last twenty-nine years he has enjoyed time with his family as well as fishing and bowling, rolling at least one perfect score. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Mavericks, Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, and West Virginia Mountaineers.
