Roy ‘Arkie’ Hocum

RAMP — Roy “Arkie” Hocum, 74, of Ramp, died at 1:20 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2013, following a long illness.

Born November 5, 1938, at Ramp, he was the son of the late Edgar and Virginia Bowles Hocum. He had lived most of his life at Ramp and had lived and worked in Northberg, N.J., for Owens Illinois Glass.

Roy was a member of the Ramp Holiness Church and the Sandstone Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. He was a graduate of East Bank High School and loved squirrel hunting, WVU football and riding his four-wheeler. Family was very important to him and he was especially close to his sister Edna.

Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Thompson Hocum, in 1965 and one brother, Bob Hocum, in 2008.

Those left to cherish his memory include one sister, Edna Harless and husband Dolphus of Ramp; one brother, Travis Hocum and wife Janet of Hinton; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, February 10, 2013, at the Ramp Holiness Church, with Pastor Felix Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the O’Bryan Cemetery at Hix.

Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services.

Family will serve as pallbearers.

Rosie Lee Holsten

Rosie Lee Holsten, of Glen Daniel, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 7, 2013, at the Bowers Hospice House Beckley, after a long illness.   

She was born December 31, 1949, at Marshfork, W.Va., daughter of the late Donnie and Luttie Pettry Holsten.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 16 sisters and brothers.

She is survived by three children, Michael Lee Stump Jr. at home, Melissa Stump and Wayne Condia of Pine Branch and Donnie and Scotty Lafferty of Pine Branch; two brothers, Donnie Holsten Jr. and wife, Nobel, Denny Ray Holsten and wife, Sharon; two sisters, Monrita Aliff and Debbie Massey and husband, David; grandchildren, Austin Cunningham, Jessie Stump, Krista Lafferty, Robert Condia Jr., Kerri Lafferty, Christian Condia; a very special friend, Mary Lucas.

Service will be 12 noon Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at the Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, with speaker, John Canterbury. Interment will follow in the Holsten Cemetery at Arnett.

Friends may call two hours prior to the service on Sunday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ray Lester, Jerry Massey, Donald Lester, Burke Alderman, Cody Lester, Matt Davis.

Yvonne ‘Bonnie’ Tyree

Yvonne “Bonnie” Tyree, 74, of Midway, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013.
