Martin Williams Jr.
Martin B. Williams Jr., age 75, of Beckley, formerly of Richmond and Roanoke, Va., died peacefully on Wednesday, December 26th, 2012, at Bowers Hospice House.
Born July 22, 1937, at Richmond, Va., he was the son of the late Helen Phillips Williams and the Martin B. Williams Sr.
Martin loved his whole family, friends and animals very much. He attended Virginia Military Institute for a year, graduating from the University of Richmond, with degree in business. Martin then served two years in the U.S. Army at Ft. Lee, Va., he held the rank of 1st Lieutenant. A certified public accountant, Martin was diligent in his work for his clients. Martin was a supervisor of banking at Peat, Marwick and Mitchell and Co., in Richmond and became a senior vice president of Dominion Bank Shares in Roanoke. He was a partner in-charge of R.L. Persinger in Beckley. After retirement, Martin had many jobs and became an adjunct professor at MSU. Martin also had his own business from his home until last year.
Martin was a past president of the Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow, and a past president of Black Knight County Club. He also volunteered for the American Red Cross. He loved playing golf with his friends having an audience to entertain and tell jokes and stories to.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Sue Powell Williams, son, Martin Braxton Williams III, wife, Rebecca of Roanoke, and his granddaughters, Ashley Elizabeth and Sarah Kristen Williams, son, James Leslie Williams of Beckley and his granddaughter, Rachel Suzanne Williams, daughter-in-law, Ronda Williams of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and his grandsons, Aaron Martin Williams and Joshua James Williams, son Christopher Patrick Williams, wife, Melissa of Beckley and grandson, Zachary Ryan Williams; as well as seven much loved cats.
Also close to his heart are the family of his uncle, Leslie H. Phillips Jr. and his late wife, Betty; their children, Carolyn Graham, Joyce Bailey, Penny Bogart, Leslie Phillips III and their families.
Martin was loved by Sue’s family, the late James M. Powell Jr.; his nephews, James M. Powell III and Michael Erhard Powell Sr. and their families and their mother, Cheryl Powell Maupin.
On Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at 10 a.m. guests will be received for visitation at the Beckley Presbyterian Church, 203 South Kanawha Street, Beckley, WV 25801. Memorial Services will follow at the church at 11 a.m., the Rev. John McKinnon and Rev. Jon White will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Beckley Presbyterian Church.

Barbara Jane Windon, 76, formerly of Caldwell, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Lewisburg. Burial will follow in the Greenbrier Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
