Wilma Bernadean Bauer

HINTON — Wilma Bernadean Bauer, 83, of Hinton went home to be with the Lord, Friday, January 11, 2013, at Summers County Appalachian Regional Hospital following a short illness.

Born November 28, 1929, at Pipestem, she was a daughter of the late Samuel F. and Carrie Ellen Knight.

Mrs. Bauer was a homemaker and caregiver and had lived most of her life in Summers County. She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed caring for others and shopping. She will always be remembered as an adoring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.

Mrs. Bauer was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert John Bauer; one son, Roger L. Meador; one daughter, Kayetta Cannon; one grandson, Zane L Mills II; two sisters, Ivy Dale Mize and Shirley Caruthers; and one brother William “Billy” Knight.

Those left to cherish her memory include Edward Meador and wife Jo of Washington state, John Bauer and wife Lynne of Hinton, Darlene Cannon and companion Tim Sooley of Hinton, Samuel Bauer and wife MiMi of Florida, RoseMarie Kyle and husband Robbie of Alabama, David Cobb and wife Teresa of Georgia, William Meador of Hinton and Joseph Helm of Hinton. Twenty-two grandchildren and several great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Robbie Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in the Ellison Cemetery at Pipestem. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral parlors on Tuesday.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Elizabeth Josephine Moodespaugh Halstead

LOWELL — Elizabeth Josephine Moodespaugh Halstead, age 90, of Lowell, W.Va., departed this life on Friday, January 11, 2013, at her home in Lowell, following a short illness.

Born January 9, 1923, in Skelton, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William “Moody” and Capitola Stover Moodespaugh of Cranberry, W.Va. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bruce Moodespaugh; three sisters, Madeline Sawyers, Beulah Hancock, and Ann Moodespaugh; and her loving husband of 67 years, William Edward “Bill” Halstead, on November 7, 2011.

During their wonderful life, Bill and Jo worked together in a building contracting business and as owners of Greener Acres Dairy. Over the years, they employed many young men from the area and they were active in many community and civic organizations. Mrs. Halstead was of the Presbyterian faith and their home was always open to family and friends to join them in fellowship and love.

Survivors include her children, Phil Halstead and his wife, Trudy, of Alderson, W.Va., and Barbara Halstead Bowling and her husband, Jim, of Lowell/Pence Springs, W.Va.; former daughter-in-law, Diana Merritt Halstead of Alderson, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Mitch Bowling and his wife, Lori, of Chalfont, Pa., Brian Bowling and his wife, Sharon, of Atlanta, Ga., Crystal Crouch of Charleston, W.Va., Lewis Halstead of Alderson, W.Va., and Hilarie Boone and her husband, Joe, of Charleston, S.C.; seven great-grandchildren, Turner, Sydney, and Riley Bowling of Chalfont, Pa., Bryce and Brooks Bowling of Atlanta, Ga., Emma Crouch of Charleston, W.Va., and Madison Boone of Charleston, S.C.; three stepgrandchildren, Theresa Bostic, Kay Hunter, and Georgeanne Godby all of Alderson, W.Va.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson, W.Va., with the Rev. Sam Groves and Pastor Joanne Hartman officiating.  Burial will follow at the Keller Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Lowell, W.Va. Friends may call Monday, January 14, 2013, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Lobban Funeral Home, Alderson, W.Va.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mitch Bowling, Brian Bowling, Turner Bowling, Lewis Halstead, Joe Boone, and Michael Sawyers. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jim Monroe, Norman Cole, Wayne Angel, Duane Rudisill, Ranny Rhodes, and Jim Eskins.

David R. Keffer

David R. Keffer, age 70, of Coal City, passed away on Friday, January 11, 2013, at Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division, following an extended illness.

Born July 28, 1940, in Whitby, WV, to the late James Porter and Mae Blevins.

David worked in road construction most of his working life and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, James Porter, Jr., Terry Franklin, Mark Austin, Marvin, Daniel, and John Keffer; four sisters, Ettie Blevins, Dorothy Meadows, Beulah Miller, and Flora Harless.

Those surviving include his wife of 50 years Mrs. Helen Keffer; sons, Scott Keffer and Mark Keffer of Coal City; daughter Crystal Keffer of Coal City; brothers, Lloyd and Burl Keffer of Coal City and Roy Keffer of Ohio; sisters, Fannie Hensley of Ohio, Zelda Wills and Ruth Bolen of Coal City; grandchildren, Patrick Foster, Derek Foster, Mariah and Cameron Keffer, Aiden Keffer, Tyler Foster and Allysa Austin; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate the life of David Keffer will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2013, at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Chapel in Beckley with Rev. Orville Hughes officiating. Interment will follow at Coal City Community Cemetery in Coal City.

Pallbearers will be his nephews.

Visitation was held Sunday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Donald L. Lilly, 57, of Beckley, passed away on January 12, 2013, at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley following an extended illness.

Born January 5, 1956, to the late Rev. Roscoe Lilly and Lela Ferguson Lilly.

Those surviving include brothers, Basil Lilly of Sophia, Randall Lilly and wife Ruth of Upshur County, and Michael Lilly of Crab Orchard; sisters, Bertha Ruthledge and husband Bob Rutledge of Beaver, Shelby Shelton of Beckley, and Pansy Kelly of Randolph County; numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved cat Sheba.

A celebration of Donald’s life will be conducted 3 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Chapel in Beckley with Rev. Orville Hughes officiating. Interment will follow at Birchfield Cemetery on Ellison Ridge.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held the same afternoon from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Carol J. Smith

RHODELL — Carol Jean Smith, 71, of Rhodell went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and David Fortner, following a long illness.

Born April 26, 1941, at Rhodell, she was the daughter of the late Delmar and Eula Shrewsbury Cunningham.

Carol was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Rhodell. In her leisure she enjoyed playing bingo, loved vacationing at the beach, and she especially loved spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by her husband, Ranny Smith; a daughter, Sherry Blankenship; and two sons, Ricky and Ranny Lee Smith.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving and devoted daughter and care giver, Patricia Fortner and her husband, David, of Rhodell; seven grandchildren, Crystal Simmons, April Blankenship, Becky, Zachary, and Junior Smith, and Cody and Faith Fortner; one great-grandchild, Landon Simmons; three sisters, Judy Milam of Rhodell, Marie Grose of Glover, and Willa Kay Davidson of Sophia; one brother, Eddie Cunningham of Rhodell; and a special friend, Lois Wall of Rhodell.

Graveside services and burial will be 12 noon Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at the Slab Fork Cemetery, Tams Mountain, with Rev. Gary Eskins officiating.

Family will serve as pallbearers.

Rebecca Lynn Webb

Rebecca Lynn Webb, 61, of Beckley, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2013, at Plateau Medical Center following a long illness. Born January 2, 1952, in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Helen Marie Barney Walker. Rebecca was a homemaker and loved spending time with her family. In addition to her parents Rebecca was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Teresa Lynn Webb.

She is survived by daughters, Kathy Huffman and husband Brian of Crab Orchard, Kim Head and husband Chris of Prosperity; son, Rod Webb of MacArthur; grandchildren, Beth Huffman and Brad Huffman of Crab Orchard, Tyler Coleman, Alexa Head and Emily Dawn Head of Prosperity, William Webb and Grayce Webb of MacArthur; sisters, Jackie Way and husband Johnny of Crab Orchard, Mary DeLaRosa of Beckley; brothers, Billy Walker and wife Joy and Trampus Walker and wife Carolyn of Beckley; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2013, in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Vondie Cook, Sr., officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may gather with the family one hour prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Ralph Allen, Tyler Coleman, Stephen Walker, Hunter Walker, Kevin Way and William Webb.
