Grover Morrison

LOGAN — Grover Morrison, age 87, of Logan, departed this life on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at his home in Logan.

Further arrangements are incomplete, Honaker Funeral Home in Logan, is in charge of arrangements.

Retha E. Peak

Retha E. Peak, 94, of Beckley, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2013.

Born April 16, 1918 in Pocahontas, Va., she was the daughter of the late Conley and Ora Pierce.

Retha was a homemaker and enjoyed knitting blankets and afghans and spending time with family.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Bruce Peak; daughters Roberta Peak Ekins; sister, Bonnie Davis and brothers Clarence and Billy Pierce.

Survivors include two sons, Conley Peak and his wife Kate of The Villages, Fla., and Robert (Duke) Peak and his wife Tuddy of Vermilion, Ohio; one daughter Winifred Peak Acord and her husband Lonnie of Christiansburg, Va.; son-in-law, Mickey Elkins of Beckley; 12 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2013, in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel. Friends may visit with the family from 2 p.m. until time of service on Saturday.  

Family members will serve as pallbearers.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, 60 East 56th Street, 8th floor, New York, NY 10022.

Evelyn H. Perry

“The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want..”

On Sunday evening, January 6th, 2013, Mary Evelyn Harrison Perry, departed this life and entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was in her 91st year.

Born on March 23, 1921, she was the daughter of the late D.B. and Minnie Rose Harrison.

Evelyn loved her Lord, her family and her church family. She was married to the late Seibert “Mac” Perry. Evelyn worked for years as a coal company accountant in Logan County, before relocating to Beckley.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers, being the last of her immediate family.

Survivors include her niece, Barbara Klipa and her husband, Milan and beloved niece, Ludena with whom she lived. Additional survivors include several other nieces and nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and great great nephews.  Evelyn is also survived by her church family, Mt. Calvary Southern Baptist Church and a host of friends. 

Services will be at the Melton Mortuary Chapel on Friday, January 11th, 2013 at 1 p.m., Pastor Wayne Nutter will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the service hour.

Entombment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Pallbearers will be Steve Dillon, Frank Mann, Ryan Nutter, Johnny Vance and Richard Bowden. Men of Mt. Calvary will serve as honorary pallbearers.
