Hazel Graham

OCEANA — Hazel Graham, 94, of Oceana passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2013. 

Born April 6, 1918, in Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late John and Sylvania Cambell Roberts.

Hazel was a longtime resident of Wyoming County, having moved to the area with her family in the 1950s. She was a homemaker and attended Faith Baptist Church in Matheny.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Graham; a son, Kenneth Graham; and a grandson, Gary Cooley.

Those left to cherish her memory are a son, Charles Graham and wife, Lynn, of Alabama; a daughter, Louise Cooley of Kentucky; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Graham of Oceana; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Hazel’s life will be 1 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2013, at the Evans Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, the Rev. Johnny Toler officiating. Interment will follow at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

Friends may gather with the family 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, January 5, at the funeral home.

Jeanette L. Haines

Jeanette Lynn Haines, 50, of Central Avenue, Lester, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, at Melton Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in the Lester Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the service hour.

Jerry Holman Holland

DAWSON — Jerry Holman Holland, 65, of Dawson, passed away Friday, January 4, 2013, following a sudden illness.

Born November 27, 1947, he was the son of the late George Nathan and Helen Marie Heaster Holland.

Other than his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Ronald N. Holland.

Those left to cherish his memory include his brother, Daniel L. Holland of Denton, N.C.; a niece, Patty Holland, and a nephew Bobby Holland.

Services will be held Sunday, January 6, 2013, at 2 p.m., at the Wallace Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum, at Clintonville, with Rev. Lee Harris officiating. Entombment will follow at the mausoleum.

Friends may gather with the family at the Mausoleum one hour prior to services.

George Edward Holtsclaw

FAYETTEVILLE — George Edward Holtsclaw, 79, of Fayetteville, died on Thursday, January 3, 2013, at his home.

Born July 21, 1933, at Laurel Creek, W.Va., he was the son of the late William and Sylvia Jones Holtsclaw.

He was a retired employee for Houchins Block.

Mr. Holtsclaw was a member of the Calvin Advent Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Rose and the family wish to express their thanks to Hospice of Southern West Virginia for the care they provided George.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, William Holtsclaw and Charles Holtsclaw, and sisters, Mary Bennett and Lanie Conley.

Survivors include wife, Rose Marie Moore Holtsclaw; brother, Paul Holtsclaw of Oak Hill; his “grandchildren” Crystal Chapman and R.J. Roles; and some very special people who were a part of his life, Charles and Mary Moore, Kelly and Sara, Debbie and Bobby Sears, David Burgess, Israel and Crystal Chapman, Chloe and Jakob Pennington, Gracie, Elijah, and Aiden Chapman, Noah Roles and Penny Begley.

Also surviving are his special caregiver, Imogene Abicht, a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be on Monday, January 7, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill, with Pastor Robert Pauley officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery, Fayetteville, with military graveside rites by Oak Hill VFW Post #3110. 

Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Lilly Deane Miller Jackson

LINDSIDE — Lilly Deane Miller Jackson, age 67, of Lindside, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, Va.

Born July 6, 1945, at Orchard, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Arthur Dean “A.D.” and Sylvia Campbell Miller.

Lilly was a member of the Rock Camp United Methodist Church where she was part of the Rock Camp U.M.C. Women. She was also a member of the Wikel Ruritan Club, Woodmen of the World, Indian Creek Community Club and the Extension Homemakers Club.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Thomas Jackson, two infant daughters, Pamela Lynn and Patricia Dawn Jackson, and two sisters, Mary Haynes and Diane Fleshman.

Survivors include one daughter, Cindy Eaton and husband Billy of Lindside; one brother, John Miller and wife India of Princeton; three grandchildren, Callista, Carmen and Adam Eaton, all of Lindside; uncle, Mark Miller and wife Frances of Oak Hill; several extended family members, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2013, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Gene Fullen officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens, Lindside.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013, at the funeral home.

Florence Kay James

LEIVASY — Florence Kay James, 60, of Leivasy, passed away Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, at the Fairview Cemetery at Nettie.

Mary Agness Johnson

Mary Agness Johnson, age 74, of Crab Orchard, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at her home.

Born on April 30, 1938, in Summersville, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Lloyd Hamrick and Ocie Buckner Hamrick.

Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker, and a member of the Crab Orchard Church of the Brethren. She had made her home in Crab Orchard nearly 60 years.

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by two brothers, Brady and Dewey Hamrick, and by two sisters, Gladys Barrett and Beulah Rhodes, a stepdaughter, Rosemary Gardner, and two grandchildren, Sarah Smith and Jeremy Smith, also preceded her in death.

Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her husband, William Avery Johnson; three children, Deborah Smith and her husband Mark of Crab Orchard, Susan Gwinn and her husband Arlie of Layland, William Avery Johnson Jr. and his wife Tammy of Beckley; two stepchildren, Charlie Johnson and his wife Shelia of Ballengee, Judy Snuffer of Somerset, Pa.; a sister, Betty Blevins of Crab Orchard, and a brother Dennis Hamrick of Crab Orchard; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren are also among her survivors.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Crab Orchard Church of the Brethren on Sunday, January 6, 2013, at 3 p.m., with Rev. Connie Runion officiating.

Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.

Mildred T. Lilly

Mildred T. Lilly, 95, of Beckley, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 3, 2013, following an extended illness.

Born November 5, 1917, in Lillybrooke, W.Va., to the late Charles Ware and Ethel Minnix Ware.

She was a born again Christian and a member of the Stanaford Missionary Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be sadly missed.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Larkin Lilly; sons, James, Richard, and Melvin Lilly; brothers, William, Stewart, and Edward Ware; and sister, Thurley Ware-Lilly.

Left behind to cherish her memory include five daughters, Juanita Hamas of Ohio, Mildred Hart of Ohio, Drema Garten of Virginia, Joyce Stanislaw and husband Don of Ohio, and Barbara Dean of Beckley; two sons, Larry Lilly and wife Nancy of Cool Ridge and Terry Lilly and wife Ruth of Shady Spring; brother, Charles Ware of Roanoke; sister, Edith Lilly of Beckley; and a host of grandchildren.

Services to celebrate the life of Mildred will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2013, at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Chapel in Beckley, with Rev. George Wood officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Johnson, Ricky Johnson, Randy Johnson, David Tolliver, Jeremy Pizzino, and Warren Fink.

Visitation will be held Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — James Leonard Pitsenbarger, 77, passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor, Va., with the Rev. George Clarkson officiating. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, at the funeral home.

William Gay Reasor II

SAN JOSE, Calif. — William Gay Reasor II, 31, of San Jose, formerly of Princeton, died suddenly on Monday, December 24, 2012.

Born April 2, 1981, in Princeton, he was the son of William Gay Reasor and Teressa Walker.

After graduating from Pikeview High School in 1999, he served in the U.S. Navy. He later earned his bachelor’s degree from San Diego State in computer science and was working as a computer programmer at the time of his death.

Mr. Reasor was a member of the Cool Ridge Freewill Baptist Church. 

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, William Jackson Reasor.

In addition to his parents, he will be lovingly remembered by his two children, Anthony Alexander Reasor and Joshua Gabriel Reasor, both of Monterey, Calif.; maternal grandparents, Barbara and Gary Walker of Spanishburg; Uncles, Gary Walker II of Spanishburg, Garland Walker and his wife Samantha of Princeton, Dusty Walker and wife Jennifer of Spanishburg; and numerous cousins.

He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

A service will be held Saturday, January 5, 2013, at 11 a.m. from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Charles Tilley officiating. Interment will follow at the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.

Friends may visit with the family Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service hour.

Serving as pallbearers will be Gary Walker, Dusty Walker, Garland Walker, and Delano Walker.

Jerry Dale Stover

RAGLEY, La. — Jerry Dale Stover, age 53, of Ragley, formerly of Surveyor, WV, passed away at Ragley, Louisiana, on December 24, 2012.

Born on June 25, 1959, in Beckley, he was the son of the late Eric Dale Stover and Marilyn Joan Aaronsburg Stover.

He was the owner and operator of his own tree service business, and had made his home in Ragley for the past 2 years, living most of his life since the 1970s in Louisiana. Jerry loved being with his family, singing Karaoke, and being outdoors. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

A nephew, George Wayne Taylor II, preceded him in death.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his son, Jason Pennington of Mabscott, WV.

A brother, Richard Stover and his wife Regina of Princewick. Three sisters, Joyce Stover of Beckley, JoAnn Damion of Surveyor, and Danette “Cookie” Runion and her husband Timothy of Mossy, WV.

Several nieces and nephews also survive. A grandson, David of Mullens, WV.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Ewing Creek Church at Clear Creek, WV, with Rev. Johnny Taylor and Rev. Loretta Taylor officiating at 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2013. Burial will follow at the Workman’s Creek Cemetery at Workman’s Creek. Friends may call at the church from 1 p.m. until time of the service on Saturday. Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Diana Lynn Miser Stroupe

Diana Lynn Miser Stroupe, 50, of Daniels, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Bowers Hospice House, following a long illness.

Born February 1, 1962, in Beckley, she was the daughter of Ida Jean Pate Moneypenny of Jane Lew, W.Va., and the late Jerry Miser.

Diana was a homemaker and a member of Outreach Church in Beaver.

In addition to her mother she is survived by her husband, Michael; a daughter, Jennifer Lee Loveday of Stanaford; sisters, Patricia Jean Foley and husband David of Cool Ridge and Norma Blevins and husband Gregg of Beckley; stepfather, Howard Lane Moneypenny of Jane Lew; and five nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2013, in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Charlie Lilly officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Allen Loveday, L.J. Cox, Steve Hall, Ryan Williams, Anthony Williams, Brian Malott, John Moneypenny and Nick Williams.

WOODSTOCK, Ill. — Bert Walker, 84, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2013.

Born August 16, 1928, in Pine Knob, West Virginia, to Lacey and Myrtle (Brown) Walker.

Survived by nephew, Denver (Susan) Walker; grandchildren, Christine (Glenn) Guelde, Barbara (Napoleon) Gulley; great-grandchildren, Lea and Lydia Guelde; nephew Robert (Norma) Walker, and their children, Sharron Ratliff and Johnathan Walker.

Preceded in death by parents; wife, Gladys Walker; brothers, Dolph and Denver.

Service at 12 noon on Monday, January 7, 2013, at Honquest Family Funeral Home, with Crematory Rockford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Rockford, Ill., with visitation from 11  a.m. until time of service. Burial at Arlington Park Cemetery.
