Wanda John Cooper
PINEVILLE — Wanda John Cooper, 95, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2012, following a short illness. She was surrounded by her loving family, at the home of her daughter, Debra Dalton.
Born March 25, 1917 in Baileysville, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Kenneth Gore and Lettie Shields Brooks.
Wanda was a member of Rockcastle Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family. She also enjoyed helping her daughter at Lackey’s Ashland Marathon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Estill C. Cooper; a son, Michael Joe Cooper; two step-sons, Merill T. Cooper and Ronald Lee Cooper; one step-daughter, Loveda McGuire; one sister, Hilda McClellan; and one brother, Doris K. Shields.
Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Katherine “Kat” Brown of Fairdale and Debra Dalton and husband, Bobby, of Pineville; seven grandchildren, Wesley J. Brown, Jr., Pamela E. Allard, Jere Lee Brown, Michael (Zac) Cooper, Jon Caleb Cooper, Katie Jo Cooper, and Michelle Lackey King; twelve great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Wanda’s life will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, December 27, 2012, at Rockcastle Baptist Church, with the Rev. Evan Arkell and Rev. Donald “Doc” Adkins officiating. Interment will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m., Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at Calfee Funeral Service, Pineville.
Wesley J. Brown, Jr., Jere Brown, Zac Cooper, Caleb Cooper, Al Allard, and Matthew King will serve as pallbearers.
A special thank you to her loving granddaughter, Michelle Lackey King for all the help that she gave her mother, Debra Dalton, in caring for her grandmother.
