Cora Mescal Murphy Adkins

Cora Mescal Murphy Adkins, 91, of Coal City, passed away at home with her caregiver Fred Nady whom she loved and he loved her.

Born June 22, 1921, at Allen Junction, she was a daughter of the late David Joseph Grubb and the late Janie Thompson Grubb.

Cora loved sewing, cooking, collecting dolls and her pets. She was a cook at Pinecrest Hospital, a cashier at the Mtn. Market, LB Market, Bypass Market, and Murphy’s Grocery.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Murphy; brothers, Wesley Thompson, John, Virgil, Garland, Jack, Chester, Joseph, and Frank Grubb; sisters, Wanda, June, Hester, and Ruth; and 6 stepbrothers and sisters.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving children, Randall Murphy and wife, Ulane, of Coal City, Della Murphy of Coal City, Patricia Harris of Coal City, and Richard Murphy and wife, Karen, of Georgetown, KY; sister, Thelma Gladine Mitchem of East Bend, NC; grandchildren, Curtis Hylton, Debbie McGraw, Randall Murphy, II, and wife, Debbie, Eric Hawkins and wife, Amanda, Asa Harris, and Ben Murphy; great-grandchildren, Randall Murphy, III, and wife, Jackie; great-great-grandchildren, Joseph and Easton.

Services to celebrate the life of Cora Mescal Murphy Adkins will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Sophia, with Pastor Melvin Jamison officiating. Following the services Cora will be laid to rest at Farley Hill Cemetery.

Friends may gather with the family from 12 p.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to her caregiver, Fred Nady, PO Box 993, Coal City, WV 25823.
