On Thursday, April 24th, 2014, Ronald “Aniello” Averson passed away.
His Going Home Service will be Sunday, April 27th at 2 p.m. at the Victory Worship Center at Drews Creek at Naoma. Pastor, Ed Bolon will be officiating.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Averson; his paternal grandfather, Andy Averson Jr., and his maternal grandparents, Dallas and Hazel Brown.
Left to cherish his memory is his surviving family, mother, Lelia Tolliver and her husband, Jackie Tolliver; sisters, Tammy Averson (James) of Hickory, N.C. and Tracie Averson of Beckley; paternal grandmother, Rosalee Averson of Whitesville; three step sisters, Julie Tolliver of Fairdale, Lisa Tolliver of Naoma and Kelli Tolliver of Stickney; uncles, Jack (Betty) Bonds, Carl (Mary) Brown, David Brown , Maxie (Margie) Brown, and Melvin (Cammie) Brown; aunts, Carmen (Greg) Cooksley and a very special aunt, who loved him dearly, Patty (Harvey) Williams; nephews, Nick, Josh, Tristan, Jordan, and River; niece, Jaiden; great nephew, Kaiden and a very special niece, Jasmine.

Betty Jo Cook Bailey

CRANY — Betty Jo Cook Bailey, 64, of Crany, went to be with her Lord and Savior surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley.
She was born September 19, 1949 in Kopperston, a daughter of the late Dewey and Virginia Billings Cook.
She was an active member of the Lillyhaven Baptist Church, where she served the Lord and loved her church family.
She is preceded in death by her parents Dewey and Virginia Billings Cook.
Those left to cherish her memory, is her loving husband of 37 years Avary Bailey; a daughter Leslie and her husband Rev. Scott Kennedy of Glen Daniel; son Jason Bailey and his wife Roncheski of Crany; two brothers Rev. Algie R. Cook and his wife Peggy of Crany and Dennis Larry Cook, Sr. and his wife Brenda of Crany. She also leaves behind host of nieces and nephews, as well as several aunts and uncles and a many other loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at the Lillyhaven Baptist Church, Lynco, with Rev. Valdis Bailey, Rev. Johnny Jones, and Rev. William Cook officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her mother and father in the Kopperston Community Cemetery, Kopperston. Friends may gather with the family from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014.
Pallbearers will be her nephews JoBuck Cook, Naman Cook, William Cook, Larry Cook Jr., Francis Bailey, Nathan Short, AJ Cook, Larry Joseph Cook, and Travis Cook.

Nancy Piziak Carter
On Thursday, April 24th, 2014, our most loved, Nancy Piziak Carter passed away at the Bowers Hospice House. She was 64 years of age.
Born on August 24th, 1949, in Raleigh County, she was the daughter of the late Eddric Jean Flanagan Campbell and Stanley Piziak. Her step father, Cecil Campbell survives.
Nancy was a 1967 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. She trained to be a Licensed Practical Nurse. Before being disabled, Nancy was employed at the Veterans Area Medical Center and Raleigh General Hospital.
Nancy will be remembered for her love of animals. She always enjoyed her pets.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Michael Richmond.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 38 years, Roger; a very special grand daughter, Morgan E. Richmond and her mother, Tammy McDaniel; her sister, Sandy Crotty and her husband, Eddie; niece, Stacie Layne and David and nephew, Namon Crotty; a large extended family that was special to Nancy survives as well.
Committal services will be Sunday, April 27th at 2 p.m. at the Sunset Memorial Park. Rev. Paul Zutaut will be officiating. There will be no visitation. Those wishing to attend the committal services are asked to meet at the cemetery.

BALLARD — Jimmy Cook, 74 of Ballard, passed away Friday, April 25, 2014 at his home.

Mary Maxine Crook
Mary Maxine Crook, age 91 of Shady Spring, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 21, 2014 at the Raleigh Center in Daniels, where she had resided for the last 12 years.
Born on January 25, 1923 on Freezeland Mountain, in Jumping Branch, she was the daughter of the late Pascal and Willa Mae Harvey Meadows.
Mrs. Crook was a homemaker, and the last survivor of her immediate family. She attended and served at the Open Door Church at Shady Spring for over fifty years. She loved working in the Open Door Church’s Lady’s Christian Fellowship, enjoyed listening to gospel music and most of all enjoyed talking to her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Ira Crook; an infant daughter, Janet Ann Crook; five sisters, Irene Graham, Orva Richmond, Ora Nell Bennett, Ruth Crook, Macil Haynes and by one brother Earl Meadows.
Those left to cherish her memory are four daughters, Velma Bailey and her husband Jim of Falmouth, Va., Jeneva Clark and her husband Rick of Ghent, W.Va., Paula Phillips of Winter Springs, Fla., and Tammie Lewison and her husband Bill of Roanoke, Va.; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Mrs. Crook’s Life will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 1 p.m., with visitation two hours prior to the services at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel, with Rev. George Smith officiating. Casket bearers will be Stuart Bailey, Michael Clark, Jon Clark, Sloan Norman, Mikie Norman, Chris Bogdan, and Normeth Crook.
Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum at Prosperity, W.Va.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the staff at the Raleigh Center where Mrs. Crook resided for the last 12 years. Everyone at the Raleigh Center treated our mother like she was their family, providing her with care, kindness, and respect.

Velma Rosetta Frost, 85, of Midway, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, following a short illness.
Born April 23, 1929 at McAlpin, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Fred and Gaye Radford Farley.
Velma was preceded in death by her husband, David “Hoot” Frost; a sister, Joyce and daughter-in-law, Sharon Hensley Frost.
Those left to cherish her memory include three sisters, Bertha Rakes of Beckley, Dorothy Lovell of Beckley and Dolly Heath of Midway; two sons, David of Crab Orchard, Jerry and wife Nancy of Oak Grove; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Williams Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Sophia with Pastor George Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.

Ewell Keith White
MAPLEWOOD — Ewell Keith White, 60, of Maplewood and formerly of Charleston, died Thursday, April 24, 2014, in a Beckley hospital.
Born May 26, 1953, in Ronceverte, he was a son of Clayton and Annie Fleshman White, of Maplewood.
Mr. White, a 1971 graduate of Meadow Bridge High School, served in the Army and later worked in coal mines, the construction industry and a printing company. He enjoyed hunting, reading and time with family and friends.
In 1976, he married the dark-haired girl in a red coat who had caught his eyes several years earlier when both were students. He and Myra Ratliff White celebrated 38 years of marriage on April 10.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. White is survived by sons Jeremy and daughter-in-law Rebecca of Charleston and Elem, also of Charleston; daughters, Adena Barber of Charleston and Wanda Holley and son-in-law James, also of Charleston; grandsons Zachery Barber, Clayton Holley, Austin Barber, Jeremy White and Andy Smith and granddaughters Cassidy Barber, Selena White, Athena White, Annie White, Lucy White and Ava Young; brothers Buddy and sister-in-law Sue White of Naomi and Timothy White of Maplewood; sister Karen White of Hartly, Del.; a nephew, a niece, three uncles, two aunts and numerous cousins.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2014, at High Lawn Funeral Home, 1435 Main St. E., Oak Hill. Burial will be private.
