Michael Lee Bradley

ALDERSON — Michael Lee Bradley, 47, of Alderson, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2014.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2014, at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union, with the Rev. Clifford Stone and Rev. Anthony Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Cemetery at Sweet Springs.

Friends may call at the Groves Funeral Home in Union from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Mable E. Vencill Brakefield

PRINCEWICK — Mable E. Vencill Brakefield, 88, of Princewick, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2014 at the Bowers Hospice House following a short illness of a rare form of cancer.

Born February 15, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Charles B. and Maude E. Vencill.

Mable was a 1942 graduate of Stoco High School and secretary at the Stoco Junior High School for several years. She retired from Beckley Oil Company as a book keeper to be a caretaker for her father and other family members to follow. She was a member of the Sunset Hills Missionary Baptist Church in Coal City.

Many hours of her life were spent reading her Bible, listening to and studying Bible courses, and working crossword puzzles.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Coy Brakefield; brother, Marvin E. Vencill; and brother-in-law, Homer Sanders.

Survivors include two daughters of Princewick, Rita and Frank McAlpine and their family; son, Franklin and Chanel McAlpine, Emma and Hunter; daughter, Stephanie and Frank Cafego, Stacy, Tyler, Samantha, and Zach; son, Sam Winston and Coy. Vicky and Robert Meadows and their family; daughter, Kelly and Mike Blevins, Jessica, Haley, and Stacey; son, Jason Meadows, Jason Jr., Hunter, and Dustin; daughter, Malinda and Adam Wojick; sister, Myrtle E. Sanders of Mt. Airy, N.C., and sister-in-law, Peggy Vencill of Princewick; special friends, Bill Bolen, Donna Collins, Bonnie Cole, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2014, at the Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel in Prosperity. Services will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor Tim Mitchem and Pastor Jimmy Vaught officiating. Interment will follow at 11 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2014, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.
