Dempsey Green Adkins
Dempsey Green Adkins, age 90, of Beckley, WV, passed away at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley on Saturday, August 4, 2012.
Born on March 5, 1922, at White Oak, WV, he was the son of the late Clark Adkins and Martha Taylor Adkins.
Mr. Adkins was retired from the C&O Railroad, and was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, having been wounded in Germany. He served in the 84th Infantry as a technical Sgt.
Mr. Adkins was a member of the St. Mary’s United Methodist Church, and had been a resident of Beckley for most of his adult life.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jordan and Wiley Adkins, and by two sisters Pauline Cochran, and June Carnal.
Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife of nearly 59 years, Marie Harris Adkins.
Two sons, Steve Adkins of Beckley, and Randy Adkins of Morgantown, WV.
A sister, Juanita Quesenberry and her husband Earl of White Oak, WV.
Three grandchildren: Angela Hollowell and her husband Brian of Austin, Texas, Leslie Perry and her husband Michael of Austin, Texas, and Jason Adkins of Morgantown. Two great-grandchildren, Amanda Brooke Hollowell, and Jacob Dempsey Hollowell. Many nieces and nephews and a lifelong friend Ira Richmond are also among his survivors.
Funeral services will be conducted to Celebrate The Life Of Dempsey Adkins on Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at 4 p.m. at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley with Dr. Sharon Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2:30 p.m. until service time on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Mary’s United Methodist Church, 2014 South Kanawha Street, Beckley, WV, or to the Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV, in memory of Dempsey Adkins.
